- Chapter 1: Levi
The sudden javelin not only terrified the members of the Evil Fang Tribe, but even Baisitina, who was closest to Levi, hadn’t expected him to strike so suddenly.
"Damn you! We came all this way to help you through your difficulties, yet you of the Feder Tribe attacked our Lord Shaman with a Bed Crossbow! Like Jackal Wolves, you repay kindness with hatred. You will now face the revenge of the Evil Fang Tribe!"
Down below the wall, the messenger from the Evil Fang Tribe stomped his feet in fury, shouting self-righteous curses.
However, if the two of them had actually stood still while shouting their curses, their words might have seemed a little more genuine.
As it was, the moment Levi threw the javelin, they had turned tail, scared out of their wits, and scrambled back toward their own troops, deeply afraid that a moment’s delay would see them shot full of holes like a pincushion.
The confidence that had allowed them to stand beneath the walls came from their certainty that the Feder Tribe wouldn’t dare antagonize the Evil Fang Tribe at a time like this and make a new enemy.
But now, that confidence had been shattered by a single javelin, especially since the fate of their Lord Shaman was still unknown.
Levi wondered why these two were still trying to provoke him.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
He casually flung two javelins their way. The Fine Steel javelins shot out like thunderbolts, and in the blink of an eye, they pinned the two men, who had only made it sixty paces from the wall, to the ground. Only the ends of the shafts were left quivering.
Not even a three-tri-blade-tall Giant could withstand Levi’s javelins. Backed by his enormous strength, they could easily pierce through Iron Armor, to say nothing of two unarmored Northern Barbarians.
Everything had been going so well for them, but then their Clan Leader was suddenly skewered to the ground by a javelin—clearly dead—and the status of their Lord Shaman was unknown.
Having lost their leaders in an instant, the Evil Fang Tribe fell into chaos. They could only stare at one another, completely at a loss as to how to handle the situation.
"Open the gate! Warriors of High Cliff Castle, charge with me! The Feder Warriors will remain here to provide support."
Levi would never let such a prime opportunity pass. With a rally cry, he led the charge down from the wall, the Beastman Barbarians swarming behind him.
It was a classic case of "to catch the thief, first catch the king," and in a group battle, you always target the rear.
Ever since this group had revealed their desire to marry Baisitina, Levi had been scheming to lure out the ever-secretive Shaman. He decided to play along, never actually expecting the old fool to dare show his face.
Perhaps the distance of a hundred paces from the wall made him feel safe. After all, a normal Bow and Arrow could barely reach that far, and even if one could, its accuracy would be impossible to guarantee.
But he hadn’t accounted for an anomaly like Levi. Back in Kolon, Levi had accurately killed a Knight from the Golden Lion Group at a distance of four hundred paces. A hundred paces was tantamount to having the target placed right in front of him.
Naturally, Levi hadn’t missed this golden opportunity and had immediately hurled his Javelin.
With his level of accuracy, there was no way he would miss at this range. The Shaman had been successfully struck by his one throw.
Levi couldn’t say he was particularly happy about this obvious outcome. In fact, he felt a little disappointed.
’I thought this Shaman who practiced Witchcraft might possess some profound sorcery, some exceptional power. I never imagined he couldn’t even take a single one of my throws. He was far weaker than I expected.’
This was a considerable disappointment for Levi, who had been looking forward to an earth-shattering duel between a Knight and a Caster that would echo throughout all of Debei.
He had even come up with a name for the duel, one worthy of being recorded in the annals of history and passed down for a thousand years: The Caster’s Demise.
As he passed the two bodies, long since dead, Levi didn’t even spare them a second glance.
’Just a couple of nameless nobodies.’ Perhaps this Clan Leader of the Evil Fang Tribe had hunted dozens of ferocious beasts and possessed superb Martial Arts, to the point that even Baisitina feared him.
But since he couldn’t even block a single throw, he wasn’t worth the Lord wasting a single brain cell to remember him.
As far as he knew, the only person to ever take one of his javelins and survive was Lord Damon, a man who cultivated Combat Qi.
It wasn’t as if Levi had never tried to cultivate Combat Qi. After all, when your strength hits a plateau, you need to look to other systems for further growth.
Unfortunately, he discovered that a Low Level Combat Qi Secret Manual was about as useful to him as adding a cup of water to the ocean—completely useless.
’I’d be better off spending that time killing people to keep leveling up.’
Besides, High Level Combat Qi Secret Manuals were held tightly in the hands of the great nobles, impossible to obtain with mere wealth.
And considering that even the so-called nobles who practiced with a High Level Combat Qi Secret Manual couldn’t last a single round against him, he was no longer fixated on cultivating Combat Qi.
The main reason, however, was that he simply didn’t have a High Level Combat Qi Secret Manual. If he did, he wouldn’t mind giving it a try. If he managed to learn something from it, it would be a win-win situation.
"Your Shaman and Clan Leader are dead! Surrender now!"
Before the two sides even clashed, Zat, at a signal from Levi, lopped off the head of the Evil Fang Tribe’s Clan Leader. He impaled it on his War Axe and raised it high, leading the Beastman Barbarians in a ferocious roar.
The roars of over forty Beastman Barbarians echoed through the sky like rolling thunder, shaking the hearts of all who heard it.
With no one left to command, their Clan Leader’s head displayed so ignominiously on an axe, and their Shaman’s fate uncertain, the blow to the Evil Fang Tribe’s morale was devastating.
The morale of the Evil Fang Tribe’s Warriors plummeted visibly. They had lost all will to fight.
Perhaps history had seen troops who could maintain morale and fight on after their commander was beheaded, but as far as Levi recalled, only one such army from the history he knew had ever managed it.
A pack of Northern Barbarians obviously lacked that kind of indomitable spirit.
When the Barbarians finally crashed into the Evil Fang Tribe’s formation and began the slaughter, they were like a meat grinder chewing through flesh and blood. The sight of severed limbs flying everywhere made the Northern Barbarians resist for only a brief moment before their lines broke and they began to rout.
They fled in chaos into the surrounding mountain forests, scattering across the entire landscape.
The forty-odd Barbarians couldn’t possibly stop more than three hundred people from fleeing, so they could only roar at those closest to them to surrender.
After cutting down a few more fleeing Evil Fang Warriors, besides those who had escaped or been killed, seventy or eighty men were left squatting on the ground, waiting uneasily to learn their fate.
They had been the Warriors at the front lines; when the rout began, they had no way to escape. To avoid being slaughtered, their only choice was to squat and surrender.
This battle was, in a way, even easier than the one last night. The Barbarians had only needed to cut down a few dozen Evil Fang Warriors before the enemy line collapsed on its own. The Beastman Barbarians hadn’t even gotten a proper warm-up.
But Levi knew full well that this victory had been so easy due to a disparity in information and the Evil Fang Tribe’s overconfidence.
The Shaman had no idea that Levi’s javelin skill had already reached the Transformation Realm. Forget one hundred paces; Levi was confident he could make a precision kill even at three hundred.
Meanwhile, their only Clan Leader had been far too overconfident, placing himself in a vulnerable position.
As a result, Levi was able to execute a decapitation strike on both leaders, leaving the Tribe a headless serpent. All it took was a little pressure to cause a total collapse.
