“Who’s the mole? Me? Ptui, ptui, ptui… I haven’t done anything to wrong them, don’t you start spouting nonsense.”

Ailuodi, seeing there was no assigned seating, casually chose a spot on the edge to sit down.

Chaoyang, using her line of sight, quickly surveyed the hall and noticed that there were still cameras in the corners, not even attempting to be concealed.

Beyond that, the ceiling’s smoke detectors and automatic sprinkler pipes were also all in place. It was clear that despite the castle owner’s effort to create a hardcore retro feel, they hadn’t skimped on installing modern amenities.

He took a moment and started with the phone line in the suite to worm his way into the church’s network—it certainly had plenty of firewalls, but there was no physical segregation, so infiltration wasn’t difficult.

Aside from Ailuodi, there were eight other people sitting beside the long table, both men and women included, one of whom appeared to be Asian. Dolly, who had a confrontation with Ailuodi the day before, was also there, but she merely glanced at the girl before shifting her gaze away with no apparent intention to seek revenge. From another camera’s angle, a complex emotion was visible in her eyes.

“Has your friend arrived yet?” Chaoyang asked.

“Not yet,” Ailuodi shook her head, “It’s been so many years, I’m not even sure if she’s changed a lot. To be honest… I’m a bit nervous right now.”

“Hello, such a beautiful lady, how can you sit alone like this?”

Suddenly, a brown-haired man approached her and said with a slight bow, “My name is Kelo Yier, may I have the pleasure of making your acquaintance?”

“What, what is he doing!” Ailuodi screamed inwardly.

“Chatting you up, what else.” Chaoyang shrugged, “Seems not everyone here knows about you.”

“Tch, how annoying!” She griped inwardly, but managed a polite smile on the outside, “Hello, I’m Ailuodi. Sorry, the seat beside me is taken by my friend.”

“I see, then I’ll switch to another side…” Kelo said, cutting himself off as he realized Ailuodi was already sitting at the end of the long table, and smoothly amended, “I’ll just sit opposite you then.”

“You don’t have any other friends here?”

“I’ve been on my own since I awakened, so isn’t that why I’m looking for friends?” Kelo said, elegantly smoothing his hair.

“Ah… this guy is hopeless.”

“I thought you were quite good at handling social gatherings,” Chaoyang said with a light chuckle.

“Why would you think that? Just because I’ve dealt with all kinds of people?” Ailuodi said with annoyance, “That’s totally different, if I’d encountered this kind of guy in City L, I would have punched him already.”

“Kelo, stop causing trouble.” Then, another man entered the hall, who to Ailuodi’s surprise looked exactly like Kelo Yier except his hair was light grey, “This isn’t the outside world.”

Kelo spread his hands helplessly, “My dear brother, could you please not talk to me?”

“Sorry if he offended you,” the man with grey hair nodded to Ailuodi, then grabbed Kelo by the arm and headed towards the other end of the long table.

“Is that his brother? Looks like there are some normal people in their family after all,” Ailuodi breathed a sigh of relief.

Before the two were far away, another tone of conversation reached her ears.

“Everyone coming to this gathering is a peer, what would you do if you get entangled? Remember the last woman who clung to life and death? It cost me so much money to settle that! If it were Angel, the trouble would probably be a hundred times more!”

“I know okay, if it really comes to that point, I’ll detach myself before it gets serious.”

“Hmph, just be careful not to get too caught up in the thrill and be unable to extricate yourself.”

Watching the two men’s retreating backs, Ailuodi clenched her fist in anger.

“I take back what I said… these two guys are even worse than Dolly!”

Just at that moment, the large door at the other end of the church slowly opened, and a man in a suit emerged, pushing a wheelchair leisurely.

The bustling chatter in the hall suddenly quieted.

It was obvious that the person seated in the wheelchair was the protagonist of the gathering, Angel K. He wore a dark-colored jazz hat, donned a black tailcoat, and his hands were also covered in leather gloves, making it impossible for the crowd to see his face or determine his age from his skin or other parts of his body.

“K is a cripple?” Chaoyang asked.

“I don’t know…” Ailuodi murmured, “In my memory, K is a positive, optimistic middle-aged man with rich experience and a complete life, both in family and living. I can’t sense any major illness in him from our interactions.”

The man pushed the wheelchair up to the long table, then stood beside K with his hands behind his back.

“Good evening, everyone. I suppose this is the first time you are meeting me,” K began, “Although I have witnessed the awakening, growth, and disappearance of many angels, only a handful of people have the opportunity to meet me like this. I am delighted that even in this era, I can see so many angels active in the world, your presence proves the power of goodness.”

As he spoke, the entire room was in an uproar!

And not for any other reason, but because his voice sounded nothing like a human’s–it was more like it had been synthesized by electronic equipment!

“Could it be that the person in the wheelchair is not a real person?”

Ailuodi was also stunned.

She hadn’t expected that after traveling all the way to Canada, she still wouldn’t be able to see K’s true face… This was beyond a breach of courtesy; even if K held high prestige among the angels, he was now causing dissatisfaction among everyone present.

“Help me take it off,” K said slowly.

“Yes,” the man in the suit replied, as he carefully lifted the brim of the jazz hat and removed it, unveiling the ‘person’ seated in the wheelchair in front of everyone.

It was indeed a dummy, or rather, a robot made to look incredibly realistic. After all, K’s jaw moved slightly as he spoke. Unfortunately, no matter how advanced the technology, robots differ greatly from living beings–the lifeless skin, the dull glass eyeballs, and the obvious seams at the neck all made it clear it was just an inanimate object used to transmit a voice.

“Mr. K, what is the meaning of this?” The first to stand up and protest was an Asian man, who sounded somewhat like he was from an island country, “We came here trusting in you, without questioning the reasons, but if you yourself don’t wish to meet in person, this is just too… too unreasonable!”

It was clear he wanted to say something more severe, but he held back due to decorum, making his tone turn quite awkward.

“Actually, I am not opposed to a video gathering,” Kelo added, “If we can have a gathering without showing our faces, why not let everyone stay at home and connect online? These days, there shouldn’t be anyone without a computer, right?”

“If they don’t have a computer, a cellphone would work too,” his brother chimed in.

“Enough!” the man in the suit suddenly shouted, “Do you have time to complain but no time to listen to Mr. K’s reasons? If anyone can’t accept this, why not just leave now? You’re all adults; you should know what the focus of the gathering is!”

“Excuse me, there are minors here too,” Dolly tapped on the table, “Of course, if you exclude her, I am all for it. Besides, this is an Angel gathering, are you an Angel too by any chance?”

“Do I need to prove it?” the man said sternly.

“Alright, my children, of course, you may feel dissatisfied, and I truly am sorry… it’s not that I didn’t want to come, but rather that I could only appear in this way,” K raised his mechanical arm and waved it from side to side, which was meant to be a waving gesture, but it looked rather comical due to its stiffness, “Therefore, I molded this body as closely to my own as possible. What you see is not merely a simple puppet; in a certain sense, it is another me.”

“Something seems off,” Chaoyang suddenly interjected.

“What is it?”

“The signal of the robot. I can’t find a network in the church that it’s connected to… How is this possible?”

Ailuodi frowned, “You mean the robot isn’t being controlled by K to speak?”

“Exactly, from the perspective of the signal, it’s an independent individual,” Chaoyang said, somewhat incredulously.
