Farrelan couldn’t help but press his forehead, thinking that had he known this would happen, he wouldn’t have arranged the plan to summon the fleet.

“Didn’t you say they wouldn’t leave the port until it was dark?” Dane slowly walked up behind him, “The night hasn’t completely fallen yet.”

As the reporters had said, although the sun had completely disappeared below the horizon, a dim orange-red could still be seen where it had set. It not only reflected the waves into a purplish-red light but also prevented the night sky from fully encompassing the heavens. The overly long shadows of the pilings dragged by the dock showed that the other members of the investigation team hadn’t kept their promise.

“It must have been Sir Durin’s doing,” Farrelan sighed, “Although Ryan is the leader, he is not one to make decisions. Unless I can catch up now…”

“The city guard does have two speedboats, but it’s going to be pitch black soon, and if you approach a warship on any other vessel, you’re likely to be mistaken for pirates,” Dane dismissed the idea, “My suggestion is that you find a place to stay tonight and intercept the fleet in the morning.”

“There’s no time. No one knows from which direction the navy will approach, and by the time they appear, the city will already be within firing range,” Farrelan shook his head, “Now we can only do as you suggested earlier, evacuate the people from the west and south, and then hope the navy doesn’t fire first and ask questions later.”

At this, he swung his fist in frustration, “If I later confirm that the early evacuation was instigated by Durin, I’ll make sure he gets what he deserves!”

“So all I have to do is find the fleet at dawn, right?” Dane spoke without a hint of tension in his voice, “How about this, I’ll introduce you to Lord Chao and see if he has any good ideas.”

“He is…?”

“The Divine Envoy of the Paradise Sect,” the reporter smiled, “Don’t worry, I can’t promise much for other places, but here at Magnificent Castle, there’s nothing he can’t solve.”

In the reception room of Yeni Temple, Chaoyang, after hearing Dane’s explanation, turned his gaze to Farrelan.

In fact, three hours earlier, he had learned of the arrival of the Old Continent investigation team from Shandela. Since the day the nobility and the company executives fled, he had anticipated such a situation would eventually occur and had made it clear to Shandela and others about Paradise’s stance: as long as these people don’t cause trouble in the city, Paradise would largely ignore them.

But he didn’t expect that the investigation team, on their second day in Magnificent Castle, would have their identities revealed and would come seeking help from Paradise. It goes without saying that the team sent from the Old Continent was somewhat unreliable.

“So his request is to convey the message that he is actually safe and sound without destroying the fleet?” Chaoyang stroked his chin and smiled, “I understand. That is actually not difficult to manage.”

“Really?” Farrelan couldn’t help asking, “Once the Seagull returns to the fleet, the five warships will be in combat mode, and I can’t even confirm their current position.”

This meant that in the vast ocean, locating a fleet on the move with only two speedboats was definitely impossible.

“Of course, it’s true. But first, I must ask you a question, Mr. Farrelan, are you afraid of heights?” Chaoyang asked with interest.

“Afraid of heights? No… I don’t have that kind of phobia.”

As he answered, Farrelan couldn’t help evaluating the Divine Envoy of the mysterious sect. His first impression was that of youthfulness; he had visited numerous sects in the past but had never encountered such a young Divine Envoy. This also confirmed a suspicion of his: the Paradise Sect was probably newly established, which could explain why the Paradise Master was so eager to respond to the Divine Envoy’s prayers. In the early days of a sect, the divinities always took extra care of their own.

Another observation was the Envoy’s demeanor—Farrelan noticed that whether speaking to Dane or to himself, there was little change in expression or choice of words, lacking the arrogance that came from being a Chosen One at such a young age, as well as the disdain and hostility toward the Old Continent’s investigation team. Such composure and politeness were rare in a person of this status at his age.

But Farrelan also had another rather unpleasant thought.

The disparity in their identities was so vast that the Divine Envoy didn’t even have the right to harbor emotions.

He hoped it wouldn’t be the latter case.

“As long as you’re not afraid of heights,” Chaoyang turned to Dane and said, “take him to the beach on the northwest side tomorrow. There’s a way to solve the problem there.”

Farrelan had almost spent the entire night sleeplessly.

As the dawn began to show the first light of day, Dane knocked on the hotel door punctually. Then the two of them took a carriage along Central Street heading north and soon left the city area, arriving at the somewhat desolate beach.

At this moment, the sun had just risen, and the sky was a hazy greyish-blue. As soon as Farrelan got out of the carriage, he was enveloped by the howling sea breeze, and the cold dampness in the air made him shiver involuntarily.

“That should be the place,” Dane said as he too jumped down from the carriage, glanced over the beach, and pointed toward an open space not far away.

Farrelan followed where he was pointing and saw several rows of colorful flags there, with a flattened, hardened surface in between each row, which looked a bit like a race track one might find in a major city. But all the race tracks he had seen, no matter how long, eventually connected like a loop, while this one was a straight line all the way.

Moreover, these tracks were incredibly wide; he casually estimated that even the narrowest one was over ten meters across, which was wider than most of the streets in Magnificent Castle.

At the end of the hardened surface sat a strange grey-green machine. It had wheels, but they were very small and connected to a long board at the bottom, which at a glance, resembled the wings of a kite.

It wasn’t until he approached that Farrelan realized this metal construction was astonishingly large, much larger than a typical carriage. He had initially thought it was some sort of special construct, but upon touching it, he didn’t feel any unusual fluctuations.

“You’re Farrelan?” At that moment, a man carrying a ladder walked over.

“Yes, that’s me. May I ask who you are…”

“Anthony.” The man set the ladder against the machine and then took out a roll of cloth from his bag and threw it to him, “Take this and climb up.”

Farrelan looked uncertainly at Dane, who then nodded affirmatively at him.

Only then did he climb up the machine following the ladder.

To his surprise, there were two narrow seats on top, which really made it seem like a vehicle for carrying people. Yet he had no idea in his mind; having wheels meant this thing worked on land, but if it couldn’t even go to the sea, how was he to find the fleet that might be approaching at any moment?

Anthony also climbed up, passing him to settle in the seat in front of him. Although Farrelan had never seen such machinery, he could still tell the seat was for piloting, with a dashboard packed with instruments in front of the driver, presumably for monitoring the mechanical status.

Anthony pressed a red button, and the massive machine immediately shuddered, with a series of dull exhaust sounds coming from the front. But this puffing noise quickly turned into a continuous roar!

Farrelan watched in astonishment as the two blades at the front of the machine began to spin, and their speed increased rapidly until, in a matter of seconds, they became a circle of transparent afterimages!

The machine had been activated!
