- Chapter 1: The Day the World Broke
The moment their eyes met, the air between the two groups turned sharp, like something invisible had drawn a line neither side could ignore. The opposing group stood in formation, not scattered like desperate survivors but structured, controlled. There were five of them. Two in front, three slightly behind, each holding makeshift weapons that had clearly been used more than once. Their posture wasn’t defensive. It was measured. Ready. Watching. Arata Kurozawa didn’t slow his approach, but he didn’t rush either. Every step he took was deliberate, his gaze fixed on the one standing at the center of the opposing group—a tall man with a hardened expression and steady stance. Not fear. Not panic. Experience.
Reina adjusted slightly at Arata’s side, her weapon lowered but aligned, ready to lift in an instant. Yuna stepped a little wider, her bat resting loosely against her shoulder, but her eyes were sharp, almost eager. Miyu stayed just behind, her focus shifting between each member of the opposing group, analyzing posture, weight distribution, reaction speed. No one spoke at first. No one needed to. The silence carried more meaning than words.
Finally, the man at the center stepped forward half a step. "This area is already taken," he said. His voice was calm, but there was a clear edge beneath it. Not a warning. A statement. Arata stopped a few meters away, his expression unchanged. "Not anymore," he replied. Simple. Direct. The words landed without force—but they carried weight.
The man’s eyes narrowed slightly. "You think you can just walk in and claim it?" he asked. Yuna let out a quiet laugh. "We already did," she said, her tone almost playful but layered with something more aggressive. Reina didn’t speak, but her stance shifted slightly, signaling readiness. Miyu’s gaze moved once more across the group, then returned to Arata.
"This isn’t a random group," she said quietly. "They’ve been holding this area."
Arata nodded once, barely noticeable.
"I can see that."
The man in front exhaled slowly, his grip tightening slightly around his weapon. "Then you should also see that we’re not leaving," he said. One of the others behind him shifted, stepping slightly to the side to widen their formation. Not aggressive—but prepared.
Yuna smiled.
"That’s good," she said softly. "Makes it more interesting."
Reina spoke then, her tone calm but firm. "We don’t need conflict," she said. "But we won’t back down either." The man glanced at her briefly, then back to Arata. "You’re the leader," he said. Not a question. Arata didn’t deny it.
"Yes."
A pause.
Then—"Then you decide," the man said. "We either divide territory... or we fight for it."
That was the moment, The line.
Clear, Unavoidable.
Yuna’s grip tightened, her excitement barely contained. Reina’s stance became fully ready, her attention locking into combat mode. Miyu didn’t move—but her eyes sharpened, already predicting outcomes.
Arata didn’t answer immediately, He observed, Five opponents, Structured, Not weak, Not disorganized, But not superior.
Not yet.
"Division leads to conflict later," he said calmly.
The man nodded slightly. "It does."
"Then we remove that possibility now," Arata continued.
Silence.
Then—Understanding, Yuna’s smile widened.
Reina exhaled slowly, Miyu didn’t look surprised.
The man in front shifted his stance fully.
"...So that’s your answer," he said.
Arata’s voice didn’t change.
"Yes."
The fight began without another word, Fast, Explosive.
The distance between them collapsed in seconds. Yuna moved first, her bat swinging in a brutal arc toward the nearest opponent. The man blocked, but the force pushed him back instantly, his footing slipping slightly. Reina followed with precise shots, forcing the others to scatter and break formation. Miyu shifted position to the side, her voice cutting in calmly. "Left flank—faster."
Arata moved, Shadow Step.
He closed the distance to the central man instantly, striking without hesitation. The man reacted quickly, blocking partially, but the impact still forced him back a step. He was strong. Skilled. But not on Arata’s level.
"You’re not normal," the man said, breath tightening.
Arata didn’t respond.
He moved again, Faster, Cleaner.
The fight spread across the street, each clash sharp and controlled. This wasn’t chaos. This was calculated violence. Yuna pressed aggressively, her strikes relentless, forcing her opponent into constant defense. Reina maintained distance, controlling space with precise fire, preventing regrouping. Miyu adjusted positioning through quiet instructions, ensuring no one was isolated.
Arata dominated the center, Every movement efficient, Every strike purposeful.
The opposing group tried to adapt, tried to coordinate—but they were already falling behind. Their formation broke under pressure, their reactions becoming slower, less precise.
One of them went down first, A clean strike from Yuna, Another followed, Reina’s shot, The balance shifted rapidly.
The central man saw it, Understood it, Too late.
He lunged forward in a final attempt, aiming directly at Arata, putting everything into a single strike.
Arata stepped forward instead of back, Closed the distance, Broke the timing.
CRACK.
The hit landed clean, The man dropped, The remaining two hesitated, Just for a second, But that was enough, They didn’t recover, The fight ended, Silence returned.
Heavy, Real.
The street was theirs now.
Yuna exhaled slowly, a satisfied grin on her face. "That was fun," she said. Reina lowered her weapon, scanning the area once more before relaxing slightly. Miyu stepped closer to Arata, her gaze thoughtful.
"...You chose dominance," she said.
Arata looked at the fallen group briefly, Then at the area around them.
"This isn’t survival anymore," he said.
A pause.
Then—"It’s control."No one disagreed, Because they all felt it.
The shift, The escalation, This wasn’t just a base now, This was territory, And they had just claimed it.
But as the wind moved faintly through the broken street, carrying distant sounds from deeper within the city, one thing was clear.
They weren’t the only ones growing.
And sooner or later—Something stronger would come.
