"This is Sir Felix. He’s one of the survivors who’s also an evolver in this camp."

Lauren introduced him, then looked at the captain.

Taking this as his cue, the man smiled and leaned forward.

"First of all, I’d like to know your names."

The four students glanced at each other, then Leon went first.

"Leonel Wayne. Nice to meet you."

He spoke politely, though his demeanor didn’t resemble that of a young person facing higher authority. He was completely calm and relaxed.

Captain Jester smiled at him, then looked at the person next to him.

"Gwen Thompson. Nice to meet you, sir."

The man’s eyes narrowed, and he immediately asked, "Are you... by any chance related to Donald Thompson?"

Already expecting this, the brown-haired girl smiled faintly and nodded.

Captain Jester, Lauren, and Lieutenant Zhong were stunned. They didn’t expect that this beautiful girl had such a massive background.

"That... is a pleasant surprise. I didn’t think I’d meet his relative."

The man smiled brightly, feeling a bit of pride. To the police and the army, Donald Thompson was a great war hero, and he was revered greatly.

To meet someone who carried that name was an honor to him. Still smiling, he turned to the next person.

"Selene."

The frost-faced girl said curtly, as if she didn’t want to waste any more words. Her first name was enough.

Captain Jester was used to this, as she was acting the same as Lieutenant Zhong.

He turned to the last person who smiled amicably and introduced himself.

"I’m Reymond Trump. Nice to meet you, sir."

Once again, the man was surprised. Trump? That was a powerful and influential family in the United States.

They had produced three presidents in the past, bringing a great improvement to the country at large.

"Good. It seems you guys are high-class individuals." He smiled, crossing his fingers on the table. "My first question is: what is the situation inside the university? Are there more survivors, or your group is the only one?"

Selene glanced at Reymond, prompting him to answer the question.

"I can’t say for sure that there are no other survivors on campus. We couldn’t just go everywhere, after all."

He sighed.

"Our group originally consisted of over fifty students, but half of them have departed towards the Northeast after we escaped the campus."

Hearing this, Captain Jester was intrigued. "Oh? I understand."

Just then, Selene looked at him and tilted her head a little. "Were you able to get in contact with the government when it all started?"

The man turned to her, hummed, and answered.

"At first, yes. We got in contact with our superiors and those at the Senate level, but we later lost connection with them. We’ve been isolated for a while now."

Blowing smoke from his mouth, Felix snickered. "The government ain’t gonna save any of you. They gotta be busy saving themselves first."

Captain Jester threw him an annoyed glance, but didn’t say anything. Instead, he turned back to the students and asked his second question.

"Since you guys are here already, I wonder if you’re planning to stay or...?"

The four students exchanged glances, then Leon answered.

"Temporarily. This is not our stop, so we’re only going to stay here for a while."

The man nodded in understanding. Since these youngsters had strength to survive out there, then they definitely would want to confirm the status of their relatives or loved ones.

Captain Jester wished he could also travel as he pleased, but he couldn’t just abandon the camp.

If he left, then the other side of the camp would completely take over, and the situation would worsen.

Seeing him fall silent, Selene took this moment to ask. "Is this camp fully controlled by you, the police?"

Although she had asked Lauren a similar question before, she still wanted to confirm a few things. Especially this mysterious smoker who was at the table with them.

Captain Jester’s smile dimmed, and he glanced at Felix.

"Partially. We control the front part of the camp while Felix’s... group safeguards the back."

The young man stopped smoking and corrected. "Not group, old man. It’s the Crow gang."

The older man just rolled his eyes and didn’t answer him.

Selene’s lips curved slightly into a frown. "You’re working with gangsters?"

It was ridiculous, to be honest. The police and the gangs were usually at odds. Yet, now, they were cooperating and working together?

Captain Jester calmly explained, "They’re a useful bunch, and as long as they don’t trespass and do harmful things, we can coexist with them. Right now, everyone’s objective is to survive. So we’ll gladly take as many helping hands as we find."

He phrased it in a reasonable manner, but Leon and Selene could tell that he was struggling to keep the gang members in control.

"Understood," Selene said, leaning back into her chair.

Lauren looked at them, then said in a calm voice. "I’ve already asked one of my subordinates to provide you guys with accomodation. As for food, that will be taken care of too."

Captain Jester nodded. "The only thing is that we would be needing your help to confront a group of monsters before you depart."

"A group of monsters?" Reymond repeated, an eyebrow raised.

"Yes." The man groaned in frustration. "Mutated Beasts, to be precise. But they’re just a bunch of wild cats anyway. Currently, they’re the ones stopping us from accessing one of our warehouses in the neighborhood."

He massaged his temples, spewing his frustration with a scowl.

"After clearing the area of most zombies, we’re almost out of ammunition, and we need to restock. Unfortunately, the warehouse has been taken over by those annoying cats."

Lauren nodded, exhaling tiredly. "I used to love those stray cats in the past, but I find them really annoying nowadays—especially when they can rip apart a human in just a few seconds. It’s hard to call them adorable any longer."

Leon’s eyes glinted, and he immediately thought about the ability scroll he had gifted to Richard.

’This will be a perfect opportunity to test it out.’

Bang!

The distant sound of a gunshot startled them, and Felix immediately sprang to his feet.

"My territory?" He growled, then marched out of the room.

The gunshot had originated from the side of the camp that he controlled, and he wanted to find out what was the cause.

The others immediately followed behind him, curious about what had happened.
