World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability

Once again, the five leaders sat around a table, ready for another major discussion.

Selene was the first to speak. "We’ve gotten enough provisions to last everyone for a week. But I’m sure we can’t remain in the university forever."

Samson nodded, chuckling faintly. "Even if you kids don’t want to leave the campus. I want to."

Reymond sighed, his expression gloomy. "Honestly, the only thing I want to believe is that my family can survive using the military power. Perhaps they’ve set up a base with your family, Selene."

The silver-haired girl remained expressionless. "Perhaps."

"Same with me. I’m heading out to search for someone."

Leon added, his expression a mask of calmness.

Selene glanced at him, then continued. "Leaving the university surely can’t be as simple as we wish."

The air turned heavier.

"We all witnessed the zombie horde today. Almost a thousand. I can imagine that several more thousand students have been turned. If I’m to be optimistic, then of the 20,000+ students enrolled in this university, only one percent has survived."

"Don’t give me that look. How many people do you think can resist the zombies?"

She was right, so her words didn’t seem to be biased. It was just harsh and a bit hard to accept.

"Also, I’m right to believe Leon has something to share with us, right? About the zombie you encountered."

Leon closed his eyes for a few seconds, then nodded.

He opened his eyes and leaned forward. "I’ll make it simple. Zombies can grow intelligent as they evolve, and there might be others who are smart enough to amass an army and direct them. Does that clear it up?"

Reymond and Samson were shocked, but Selene and Gwen looked like they had expected it.

"Seriously... it just had to turn out like this."

Gwen mumbled under her breath.

Meanwhile, Selene’s expression barely changed. "Was it that one you fought? The black one?"

Leon shook his head. "No. It’s a different one. And it didn’t show up at all."

The morale at the table dropped further, and Samson began to grit his teeth.

"Damnit! What has the world become?"

It was pure nonsense. Zombie armies? Intelligent zombies? Didn’t that mean a death sentence for humans?

The only reason he had been able to kill the zombies in the field house that first day was simply because they were slow and mindless. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Honestly, I’m not so sure the military can survive anymore."

Gwen laughed nervously, her expression dark.

Reymond immediately turned to her. "Hey, don’t say that. Your grandfather holds the greatest power in the US military. I’m sure they already created a base and are cooperating with the government."

Leon’s eyes narrowed. "Gwen? Who’s your grandfather?"

Reymond and Selene turned to him with frowns, but he ignored them. Instead, he focused on the brown-haired girl.

"This... my grandfather is actually Donald Thompson."

At the mention of that name, Leon stiffened. The name was something no one in America didn’t dare recognize.

Donald Thompson was a man of war. He had led the US military during World War III, subduing other threatening countries like Russia, Afghanistan, China, and the others.

Although America suffered from the war, they ended up being the ultimate winner in the end. And their win was all because of a single, fearsome man—Donald Thompson.

Although the world order had collapsed and backgrounds had become somewhat useless, Leon felt strange when looking at Gwen.

"Really... surprising."

He breathed a sigh, then glanced at Samson. The man had a similarly shocked expression on his face, but he wasn’t saying anything.

Sensing the shift, Gwen smiled and waved at him. "It’s nothing, though. I don’t think there’s anything special in having a great background. In fact, I’d have preferred a normal family."

"That’s not our main focus now."

Selene cut her off, casting a displeased look at Leon before she continued.

"There are only three gates out of this university. The North, East and West gates. Currently, the path to the North Gate is somewhat cleared since we killed a lot of zombies around that side today."

Samson folded his arms and added his own opinion.

"Honestly, I think it’s the safest too. Lecture theatres and faculties are far from there, so there shouldn’t have been that much zombies there when the apocalypse started."

"You’re right." She said coolly, "However, we also can’t rule out the possibility of another zombie army lurking around. Or a dangerous mutated beast."

Leon frowned, tapping the table in sharp rhythms.

"There’s also Mutated Beasts that you mentioned. Those ones are even more threatening. An insect can grow into a terrifying creature just by consuming others and leveling up."

Reymond clicked his tongue and covered his face. "That means we shouldn’t even try the East gate. That’s where the university zoo is."

Reymond nodded. "I agree with you on this, boy. I don’t want to fight a crazy lion the size of an elephant. Or a gorilla the size of a house. Or a..."

"That’s enough," Selene cut him off. "We’re not approaching the East gate. That’s it."

"Well, our only option is the North gate then. The West gate is closest to the lecture theatres." Gwen added, and they all came to the same conclusion.

"Alright. We now have a goal. But we need a plan. Charging straight to the North gate without knowing the situation there would be suicide."

Selene said grimly, her gaze shifting to the normal students and a few staff who were just idling around.

"Also, we have to consider how to protect those guys."

Reymond, Gwen, and Samson glanced back at the oblivious people who were trying to reassure each other that the government and the military were going to come save them.

Leon tilted his head. "Don’t we have buses in the school? We can leave using the buses. If there are zombies or mutated beasts fast enough to catch up, then it’ll be our responsibility to take them out."

Selene agreed with his idea, but there was a problem.

"The buses are around the Student Union building... closer to the East gate."

Once again, the morale of the team dropped further.
