The Devil Who Claimed Me

Mila shot up from the bed, her heart pounding violently against her chest. Her eyes darted toward the door instinctively before returning to Faith.

"How did you get in?" she asked in a hushed tone as if afraid anyone would hear her. "There are guards outside. They didn’t stop you?"

"They tried," Faith replied casually. "But I got rid of them."

Mila blinked, stunned. "Got rid of them? How?"

A faint, almost amused smile curved on Faith’s lips. She had sprayed pepper spray on them at first. When they were struggling, she had injected a sedative into them.

Faith tilted her head slightly. "Do you want to stand here and hear the full story," she asked, "or do you want to escape?"

That snapped Mila out of it. Her pulse spiked.

Dominic could return at any moment.

"I want to leave," she said immediately. "Let’s get out of here first."

Faith’s tone turned brisk. "I’m not going anywhere. You are leaving. Alone."

Mila frowned. "What about you?"

"Don’t worry about me," Faith said simply. "Focus on yourself."

Without wasting another second, she began removing her nurse’s uniform.

Mila stood frozen for a moment, caught off guard.

"Don’t just stare," Faith said, glancing at her. "Change."

"Oh—yes."

Mila quickly snapped out of it and pulled off the gown she was wearing.

They exchanged clothes swiftly. Within moments, Mila stood dressed as a nurse.

Faith handed her a mask, which Mila immediately pulled over her face. Then she gave her a phone and some cash.

"Take these," Faith said. "Take a taxi from her. Someone will meet you at the next point. Call Lara once you are out. She’ll arrange the rest."

Mila nodded quickly, gripping them tightly. "Thank you."

She turned to leave but paused. Looking back at Faith, something softened in her eyes. "Take care of yourself."

Faith gave a small nod. "Good luck."

Mila stepped out of the room and froze.

The two guards lay on the ground, unmoving. Her breath caught in her throat. She quickly lowered her gaze and walked past them.

Faith waited a moment before stepping out and slipping in the opposite direction, disappearing into the hospital’s busy flow.

Outside...

The cool night air hit Mila’s face as she stepped out of the hospital. She didn’t stop. She moved straight to the curb and raised her hand.

A taxi pulled up.

She opened the door and slid inside quickly. "Drive fast."

The driver pulled away from the hospital.

Mila glanced back once at the building. ’I finally escaped.’

A small sign of relief escaped her mouth.

Someone standing in the shadow shows the scene. The figure stepped away and dialed a number.

"Dominic’s chick is on the run. Just boarded a taxi. I’m sending the license plate number."

As soon as the call was ended, a message was sent.

Inside the hospital...

One of the guards stirred, his eyes and face still burning.

"Damn it..." he muttered, rubbing his burning eyes.

The other guard slowly pushed himself up, twisting his face in discomfort.

"That bitch," the first one growled. "She dared to attack us. I’ll kill her."

"Miss Mila!" The second guard’s eyes widened. "Go check—now."

The first one stumbled to his feet and rushed into the room. There was no sign of her.

"She is gone," he shouted.

"What do you mean gone?" The other rushed in after him and froze at the doorway. He fell with chills all over his back.

"Shit..." he muttered. "We need to inform the boss."

He pulled out his phone, hands trembling slightly.

But before he could dial, his partner grabbed his wrist.

"What are you doing?" he snapped. "If he finds out we lost her, we are dead."

The second guard hesitated. Fear flickered in his eyes. "Then what do we do?"

"We find her," the first one said quickly. "She couldn’t have gone far. We can catch her."

The other one hesitated. But he was afraid of punishment and agreed with his friend.

"Fine."

They rushed out of the room immediately, desperation in every step.

The surgery was over. The doctor confirmed that it was successful and that the patient was stable.

Mr. Lee finally felt a wave of relief spread over him. "Thank you, thank you, doctor."

The doctor smiled at him reassuringly and then left.

Mr. Lee turned to Dominic and bowed to him, showing his gratitude and respect. He said something in Mandarin that Dominic couldn’t understand. But he guessed Mr. Lee was thanking him.

Dominic also bowed to him. "You should rest. I’ll go check Mila."

He strode away. When he neared the room, he frowned.

The guards were supposed to be outside. But there was no one.

"Where are they?" he wondered.

Something felt off.

"Mila..." He pushed the door open and entered, urgency lacing in his steps.

The word died in his throat. Mila wasn’t in bed.

For a second, he didn’t move, his eyes roaming around the empty room. His mind refused to process what his eyes were seeing.

A cold, dangerous silence settled in his chest.

"Mila..." he called again and checked the bathroom. It was also empty.

His jaw tightened. In one swift motion, he pulled out his phone and dialed.

The line connected after a few rings.

"Boss—" came a shaky voice.

"Where are you?" Dominic asked coldly.

There was a pause on the other end. The guard hesitated to answer.

"Answer me," Dominic snapped.

The guard’s breath hitched. "We are searching for Miss Mila..."

Dominic’s eyes darkened instantly. "What do you mean searching?"

"A nurse came... she said she needed to check on Miss Mila," the guard stammered. "We stopped her, but she sprayed something in our eyes. We couldn’t see... and then—"

His voice trembled. "She injected something into us. We lost consciousness."

Dominic’s grip on the phone tightened. Veins stood out along his hand.

"When we woke up," the guard continued weakly, "Miss Mila was gone."

Dead silence enveloped him.

"We checked the entire hospital and the surrounding area," the guard rushed to add. "But we couldn’t find her anywhere."
