The impact forced Ivan back several steps. Luckily, Migi blocked the follow-up strikes.

The clash between their tentacles turned into a blur in mid-air. Clang, clang, clang. Metal rang nonstop. With a brief opening, Ivan glanced down at the sword in his hand.

Pathetic.

He’d just gotten it, and after that exchange, half the blade was already wrecked, like it could fall apart into scrap at any second.

Seeing he couldn’t finish Ivan quickly, Mr. A shifted his focus to Shinichi.

Kill Shinichi, and the injured Ivan would be easy to clean up.

"This piece of shit sword... putain, what a joke. Guess I’ll do it myself."

As he spoke, Ivan’s right arm twisted and reshaped into a blade made of flesh and muscle. The silver-white edge caught the light, sharp as hell.

He didn’t have the stamina to outlast a parasite.

This fight had to end fast.

Ivan stayed patient. Timing was everything.

"Now."

He swung at Mr. A’s chest.

But Mr. A reacted instantly. Another tentacle burst out, slashing diagonally toward Ivan as he closed in.

Now Ivan had two choices.

Back off and lose this perfect opening.

Or go down with him.

Ivan chose neither.

He twisted his body, using his other arm to block the incoming strike, letting the tentacle slice straight through it, while at the same time driving his blade across Mr. A’s left arm.

In an instant. Squelch!

Blood exploded from both of them. Severed limbs hit the ground.

Ivan rolled, grabbed his own severed arm, and slammed it back onto the stump, forcing it into place while gritting through the pain.

"Ivan!" Shinichi’s eyes went red. Pushing past his fear, he stabbed the hollow steel chair leg straight into Mr. A’s abdomen.

Blood started pouring out along the metal pipe.

With that much blood loss, Mr. A weakened fast.

If he stayed here any longer, he was dead.

"Idiot. I can stick mine back on. Can you?"

Ivan staggered to his feet, swaying slightly. His face was pale as hell, sweat pouring down his forehead, but when he saw how much worse Mr. A looked, he still cracked a grin.

Mr. A didn’t respond. He just dragged his bleeding body forward, heading in Ryoko Tamiya’s direction.

"Shinichi, now! Finish him!"

Migi pushed immediately. No room for accidents.

Shinichi looked at him... but couldn’t do it.

Mr. A had already shifted back into a normal human appearance.

"No... I won’t. If I do this, I’m just killing a person."

Seeing Shinichi hesitate, Ivan glanced at his blade arm and went after Mr. A. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Fine. I’ll do it."

He focused, then swung.

Mr. A had no strength left to resist. The blade cut clean.

A head rolled across the corridor, quickly shriveling as it hit the ground.

"Haah.. Jesus... killing you was a pain in the ass."

Only after confirming he was truly dead did Ivan’s body finally give out. It was like his spine disappeared. He slid down the wall, barely able to stay upright.

"Shinichi, he’s losing too much blood. He’s not going to make it. Get him to a hospital, now."

Migi’s voice cut in sharply.

"Ivan, hang on. I’m taking you to the hospital."

Shinichi hoisted Ivan onto his back and rushed downstairs. Along the way, Ivan’s vision blurred more and more. His head felt heavy, thoughts slipping away.

Right before he blacked out, he vaguely heard people shouting.

"Hurry, get this student into the police car. They’ll take him to the hospital!"

"Wait, isn’t that the swordsman? What happened to him? Why did he pass out?"

No idea how long had passed before Ivan Greevs finally cracked his eyes open. The first thing he saw was a clean, white ceiling.

"Putain... got isekaied after being paralysed for so long and still ended up in a hospital. Ow, my head hurts too..."

He grimaced. Hospitals never sat right with him, not after everything he’d been through. He glanced at the IV drip beside the bed. Glucose, most likely.

"Well, this only fuels my desire to get stronger.."

Ivan pushed himself up with both arms and sat upright, then pulled up his status panel.

"Two days gone just like that... what a waste."

He clicked his tongue.

"Attention, nurse assigned to Bed 36. The patient in Bed 36 has regained consciousness. Please report to Room 36 immediately."

The announcement echoed through the ward.

A moment later, a nurse in uniform pushed the door open and walked over to his bedside, checking his vitals with practiced ease.

"Do you feel any discomfort?" she asked gently.

Ivan shook his head. "I feel fine. When can I get out of here?"

"Not just yet. Your blood sugar is still a bit low. We need to observe you for another day. If everything stabilizes, you’ll be able to go through discharge procedures."

She took out a fresh bottle of glucose, popped it open, and hooked it up to his IV with smooth, efficient movements.

"Another day in the hospital? I don’t have the money to pay for that."

The yen he had from the system wasn’t nearly enough to cover a stay like this.

The nurse just smiled at him, a hint of admiration in her tone. "You’re a media sensation right now. You took down the attacker who broke into the school all by yourself. A lot of people have already donated money for you."

Ivan blinked, completely confused.

After asking for his phone, he finally pieced things together.

Turns out when the school questioned Shinichi about why he passed out, Shinichi gave a rough account of what happened. He left out the important parts, like the parasite’s true nature. He just said Ivan was found next to the attacker’s corpse.

And just like that, the story blew up online.

"The swordsman of West High single-handedly kills the attacker."

It spread like wildfire.

Ivan Greevs became famous overnight. Not just locally. All over Tokyo.

"Great... now I’m stuck with this ’swordsman’ bullshit. Should I start cos playing the Atomic Samurai?"

Before long, news of him waking up reached both the media and the school. In less than the time it took to eat a meal, his hospital room was packed with reporters.

"According to certain sources, the attacker who entered the school might not have been human, but some kind of unknown creature. What’s your take on that? The one you fought... was he really not human?"

A reporter with an entertainment logo shoved a mic toward him.
