The second the words left his mouth, the whole gala atmosphere dropped to freezing.

"Now this is gonna be fun." Almost everyone at the party turned to stare at A-Train. The Pentagon guys especially looked like they were watching the best show of the night.

"Interesting. First time I’ve seen a dog bite another dog," one official muttered, sipping his drink. His colleague shrugged. "Who knows? Looks like someone snapped his leg in half."

The Vought executive who had opened his stupid mouth suddenly regretted every life choice he’d ever made. He never thought A-Train would explode over a joke. "Sorry, I’m drunk. My bad. I apologize."

To keep the gala from turning into a bloodbath, the executive had no choice but to suck it up and bow his head.

"That’s a good excuse." Ever since Kimiko smashed his right leg, A-Train felt eyes crawling all over him everywhere he went — on the street, at bars, everywhere. People couldn’t stop staring at his fucked-up leg.

"Ah, Greevs... and Shockwave," A-Train spat. His face turned nasty the second he saw who was standing next to Ivan. He had no idea why Shockwave was even at the gala.

"I won’t bother introducing him. I’m sure you two already know each other," Ivan said with a smile.

"Just some loser I already beat. What the fuck is he doing here?"

Shockwave’s sudden appearance made A-Train uneasy as hell. Was this Vought’s plan? Were they really trying to replace him?

No fucking way. He would never let that happen.

"He’s a special guest for tonight’s gala," Ivan replied, confirming A-Train’s worst nightmare.

Madeline stayed quiet. She stared at him with deep affection, cupped his face with both hands, and kissed him hard. Their mouths crashed together, hungry and messy.
