On the other side, Butcher laid out his plan to Mother’s Milk and the others.

"Shit, you’ve always been a fucking lunatic. A revenge-crazed maniac. You know what the difference is between you and those extremist assholes? There isn’t any. You’re both brainless." Mother’s Milk cursed nonstop while packing his stuff, ready to bolt overseas.

"MM, that’s the smartest thing you’ve ever said since I met you."

Frenchie didn’t look any happier. If Butcher hadn’t shown up with Translucent’s corpse back then, he wouldn’t be in this mess again. The thought of becoming a wanted criminal made Frenchie want to pull out his gun and shoot Butcher right there.

"Guys, I’ve got a solid shot this time. Even if I can’t get Homelander’s weakness, I can blackmail Madeline into dropping the manhunt on us." Butcher tried to convince them, but MM and Frenchie were completely done with his bullshit.

"Save it. We’re not falling for your crap anymore."

Frenchie grabbed Kimiko and started heading out. With Vought’s current wanted level, just sneaking out of the country would be a miracle. Kidnapping Madeline was pure fantasy.

"Move. You’re in my way."

Mother’s Milk finished packing and moved to leave with Frenchie.

"Fuck." Butcher clenched his jaw and watched them walk away.

Right then, several black vans rolled up from down the street. No markings, windows tinted so dark you couldn’t see inside.

Butcher’s instincts screamed danger the second he saw them. He clamped a hand over Hughie’s mouth and dragged him behind a dumpster. "Quiet. CIA black ops. I’ve seen these vans before."

"What?" Hughie whispered, face pressed to the ground. He peeked through the gap in the dumpster toward MM and the others.

Mother’s Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko noticed something was wrong too. They pulled their caps lower and picked up the pace.

Screech!

One of the black vans suddenly cut them off. The rear doors flew open and a squad of heavily armed tactical officers in full black gear poured out, rifles raised, helmets on. They surrounded the three instantly.

"Freeze!" the lead officer barked, gun pointed at Mother’s Milk. "All of you, take off the hats."

Staring at the dozens of guns aimed at them, Mother’s Milk knew they were fucked. He slowly removed his cap. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

The lead officer scanned their faces through his visor, confirming the targets. "Drop your weapons! Hands on your heads, get on the ground! Now!"

"Fast!"

"Now!"

Kimiko looked up at Frenchie, waiting for his call.

"Do what they say," Frenchie muttered. With this kind of firepower, escaping was nearly impossible unless Kimiko ditched them. "Can you make it out?"

Kimiko shook her head. Facing that many gun barrels, she wasn’t confident she could get away without getting Frenchie shot.

With no choice left, they dropped their weapons and knelt on the ground with their hands on their heads.

"No."

"No weapons," the tactical officers reported after thoroughly searching them.

The team leader looked down at Kimiko with a sneer. "So you’re the supe, huh?"

Bang!

He pulled the trigger without hesitation. The gunshot made Frenchie’s face twist in shock. "Kimiko! Kimiko!"

"Relax. It’s a tranquilizer dart," the captain said coldly, staring straight into Frenchie’s furious eyes. He waved his hand. "Cuff them. Load them up."

After shoving Frenchie and the others into the vans, the captain led a group of men into the motel Butcher’s crew had been staying at. They came out half an hour later.

Behind the dumpster, Butcher and Hughie barely breathed until the vans finally drove off. Butcher let out a long sigh. Good thing his reflexes were fast, or all four of them would’ve been fucked.

"What now? How the hell do we get them out?" Hughie asked.

Butcher didn’t answer. He couldn’t risk his plan just to save them. Time was too tight. He had to go after Madeline while he still could.

"You’re just gonna abandon them?" Hughie stared at him in disbelief. "Is revenge really that fucking important to you?"

Butcher stayed silent. He took Hughie to a quiet spot and swapped the license plates on his car with a screwdriver.

"Fine. I see you clearly now," Hughie said, voice full of disgust. "You never gave a shit about any of us. We were just tools for your revenge."

Completely done with Butcher, Hughie turned and walked out of the underground parking lot without looking back.

He went to find Starlight. In his eyes, she was the only supe with any conscience left.

But to his surprise, Starlight shut him down flat.

Meanwhile, Vought’s celebratory gala was in full swing.

Starlight had let Madeline talk her into wearing that tight, slutty new costume again. She swallowed her discomfort and played the perfect little flirt for the Pentagon bigwigs, smiling and laughing like a high-class escort.

What surprised Ivan, though, was seeing A-Train hobbling into the party on crutches, his broken leg still fucked up.

His ridiculous appearance — limping around on crutches — made plenty of guests burst out laughing.

"Isn’t that A-Train? What happened, did you fall out of bed?" one executive mocked, raising his glass with a shit-eating grin.

Up on the staircase, Homelander watched the scene and his face turned ugly as hell.

He immediately called Ivan over. "You gave him an invitation? Do you have any idea how much he’s embarrassing The Seven right now?"

Truth was, Homelander looked like he wanted to laser A-Train’s head off on the spot.

"I didn’t. He must’ve come on his own," Ivan replied, shaking his head.

"Then get him the fuck out of here," Homelander growled through clenched teeth.

"I already prepared a special guest for him."

Ivan stepped aside and introduced the man behind him. "This is Shockwave. His speed is second only to A-Train. I already cleared it with Ms. Madeline. If A-Train can’t recover his old speed after healing, we’ll have no choice but to replace him."

"I’ve got no problem with that," Homelander said coldly.

He was clearly pissed beyond words at A-Train. Without another glance, he turned and headed straight toward Madeline.
