Eve, swathed in a pair of midnight blue suits with perfectly tailored pants, stepped down from the car and walked over to stand right next to Malakai who had his gloved hands shoved into the pocket of his knee-length coat. He was staring at the building right in front of them.
She glanced at the watch clasped around her wrist. It was seven fifty-nine p.m. and Patro was waiting for them right inside that building.
Drawing a deep breath, she asked, "Shall we?"
Malakai lowered his gaze at her and instead of responding, he removed his hand out of his pocket—something in his grip.
Eve eyed the pistol he held. "Take it," he said to her.
"Why?"
"We’re going in there unsure what Patro is planning. Hold it for your safety, doll, and shoot if you even feel threatened. Don’t wait to be shot first." His fingers brushed through her unbound hair, tucking a few strands behind her ear. "Do you understand me?"
Eve stared at him. "You don’t want me to go in there with you, do you?"
"No. I think I can handle this for you myself," he responded. "But you won’t let me. You are very stubborn."
A smile pulled on her face and she bit down on her bottom lip, collecting the pistol from him. "I can’t let you go in there alone, Malakai. This is my fight—"
"And mine too."
"Yes. And that’s exactly why we have to do everything together. I’m not just going to sit around and I need you to understand that."
Malakai knew he couldn’t persuade her out of the decision, so he breathed out and grabbed her hand, walking her into the building.
It looked abandoned, like your typically shady business dealing buildings. And it made no sense, because what sort of childish game was Patro playing?
Eve stopped in the center of the first floor of the building and lifted her head to the hole in the dirty ceiling.
"Wonderful, you arrived just in time," the very familiar voice drew her attention and she and Malakai shifted their gaze to their left.
A light bulb flickered itself to life and seated on a wooden comfortable chair was Patro. Dressed in a striped brown suit, black hair slicked back flawlessly. He looked impeccable as he always did in all his glory.
However, what snatched Eve’s attention was another presence. Herla. She was seated on his lap, his arm wrapped around her waist.
Stupid useless mind games. Eve almost rolled her eyes.
"My father," she demanded.
Meanwhile, Malakai’s eyes were running around the building, his brows furrowed. It was almost as if he could sense something was off—more than two presence to be precise.
Patro made Herla get up from his lap. Then he wiggled his fingers at Eve. "Come here."
She didn’t take a step.
His lips stretched into a smile. "Oh, don’t be stubborn now. Come here, sweetheart." His gaze shifted to Malakai and he smirked. "Look at the look on your face. For a man who stole someone else’s mate, you sure are territorial."
"That’s such a shame, isn’t it?" Malakai grinned at him, hands still left inside his pockets. "You couldn’t even keep your own mate. Now she belongs to someone else. What exactly are you being cocky for? Do you take pride in being a loser, Patro?"
Those words made the smirk on Patro’s face fall off. His expression darkened and his hands clenched, so did his jaw. He was pissed and it was written all over his face.
He drifted his gaze to Eve. "Don’t you want your father?" he questioned. "Come here, Eve, to me. Now."
Eve still didn’t move. She rather turned her attention towards Malakai who tilted his head at her, as if telling her to decide on what to do.
She gave him a barely noticeable nod and began to approach Patro. The very second she was within his reach, Patro snatched her, rising from his seat and spinning her around, her body slammed into his solid frame.
The cold tip of his pistol pressed against her temple and he grinned, lifting his gaze to Malakai. However, Malakai was nowhere to be seen.
Patro froze as the cold metal of a gun pressed against his own temple, a pair of elongated claws curled around his throat.
Malakai was behind him, the man’s taller figure towering above, behind him.
Eve breathed heavily in his grasp, but so did he, because he knew that with any slight movement, Malakai would either slit his throat or blow his brains out.
How had he gotten behind him that fast? It made no sense to him.
"Get away from him," the sudden threat drew the attention of the three towards Herla who had her own pistol aimed at Malakai.
Malakai rather grinned widely, eyes shifting to the pure shade of black. "You. I warned you. One day, you’ll be the first omega to die at my hands."
Herla shook where she stood. Her wolf was frightened—she could swear she was almost about to wet herself. Her fingers couldn’t even properly grip the gun anymore.
His aura, his pheromones. Not just her wolf, but even Patro’s wolf were beginning to submit, unsure why they were even doing so in the first place.
"What the fuck?" Patro grounded out.
Eve panicked. "Malakai!" she snapped at him. He needed to control himself, his wolf, and his toxic pheromones. They were heavily slipping out and goddess-forbid, Patro found out Malakai was a supreme alpha.
"Malakai, please..." she pleaded, and as if he knew what she was begging for, the golden of his eyes returned and the potency of his pheromones lessened enough that Patro and Herla who felt like they were suffocating could finally breathe.
Eve was the only one unaffected, and she didn’t have the time to figure out why. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Patro’s fingers wrapped tightly around his gun and he wasn’t letting Eve go. No, he had plans up his sleeve. She would be stupid if she actually assumed he was going to give her father back to her just like that.
"Shoot a leg or two," he suddenly spoke. "Don’t kill them, I want them alive."
