Eve turned back and forth on the bed, and suddenly sat up on the bed. She ran her fingers through her hair and turned her gaze towards Malakai who was sound asleep right next to her on the bed.
She pushed him. "Malakai?" And when he didn’t wake up on her first call, her fingers reached into his hair, pulling so painfully the man shot up on the bed, eyes glancing around the room with pure vigilance on his face.
There was no intruder in the room.
A look of relief emerged on his face and he brushed his thick fingers through the black strands of his hair.
Eve! 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He turned his head, freezing at the sight of her seated on the bed and watching him intently like he’d done something wrong to her.
He blinked at her. "Eve?"
Heer hands balled into fists.
Did he do something wrong? Malakai was confused. Why was she staring at him like that?
"Eve, what’s wro—"
"Why do you get to sleep so peacefully?" she questioned.
He was taken back, his brows cocked in confusion and apprehension. "Uh...what? W-what did I do?"
Eve sniffled and without answering him, she reached for her glasses on the mini table close to the bed and crawled off to her feet. She stood up and under his bemused gaze, she walked into the bathroom and shut the door close, locking it from the inside.
Malakai flickered his eyes.
Had he done something wrong and was unaware of it?
Eve pressed her back against the door and slid to the floor on her butt. She pulled her legs to her chest and buried her face in her knees.
The indication that she’d begun crying was her sniffles and Malakai despite being on the other side could hear it.
He quickly turned the door handle, but it was locked and he couldn’t get in.
"Eve?"
She didn’t answer, but sobbed harder, her fingers gripping the hem of her pajama shirt. She didn’t even know why she was crying or understood why. She just had to cry because it was just all over her.
"Eve, Eve, open the door, please," the man pleaded from the other side of the door. "Did I do something wrong? If I did, at least tell me. I’ll fix it."
"I’m sorry," she mumbled. "You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t—I don’t know what’s wrong with me."
"Then open the door. Okay?" he coaxed. "Maybe I can fix what’s wrong."
"Can you?"
"We won’t know unless you open the door."
Eve rose to her feet and fixed her glasses onto her face. She unlocked the door and Malakai was quick to open it, his gaze dropping on her smaller figure.
"Why are you crying?" he asked.
She shrugged while sniffling. "It’s just...I feel..."
He patiently waited for her to complete her words but when she didn’t, he cupped her cheeks and tilted her head from left to right as if examining her.
"Should I call you a doctor or take you to the hospital?"
Eve didn’t respond, instead she stepped much closer to him and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, her head rested against his chest.
"I can hear your heartbeat, you know," she sniffled.
Malakai was as still as a statue, the only thing he could do was to blink. He reluctantly patted her head, unable to comprehend what was happening. He could feel her wolf and it didn’t seem to be in distress. So what was going on with her?
"Malakai." Eve suddenly pulled at the back of his shirt. "Can you please kiss the top of my head?"
He frantically blinked his eyes and furrowed his brows. "I can..."
"You don’t want to?" She craned her neck back to meet his gaze and the wetness in her eyes streamed down her cheek. "It’s—it’s not even like you haven’t kissed me before. You—"
Malakai cupped her face in his large palms, a bemused chuckle falling from him.
"Why are you laughing? Do you think—"
He pressed a kiss on her forehead. Eve froze. But he didn’t stop. He kissed her temple, kissed her eyelid, under her eye and kissed the spot close to her ear.
"Is that enough?" His brow quirked inquisitively. "Do you want more?"
She blinked up at him and slowly shook her head. She averted her gaze to her floor beneath her feet and stifled the smile that threatened to break free.
His fingers threaded her loose hair that bounced all the way past her waist and asked, "Is there anything else you want?"
Eve didn’t answer him, but turned and left the room. She returned shortly after with two bags of chips in her hands. "Would you watch a movie with me?"
Malakai nodded. "Yes...if that will make you happy."
Her lips immediately stretched into a wide smile, and she approached him, handing one bag over to him. "Do you have a theater?"
"A theater?" He furrowed his brows. "No. I don’t...really watch movies."
He watched the smile on her face fall, and quickly grabbed her shoulders, adding, "But I can have it added to the first floor if you want. Just give me a few days."
"Do you promise then to watch with me even if not today?"
"Definitely." He breathed out in relief.
"Then come with me." Eve grabbed his hand and walked him out to the empty balcony with nothing but a large white couch. "Let’s watch the sky. The moon is even out. A-and it’s half."
A smile painted itself on Malakai’s lips and he cackled under his breath.
"What’s funny?" she questioned with a serious look on her face.
"Nothing. Let’s watch the sky. We can sit out here all night if you want."
"Eating chips?" she added.
"Eating chips," he agreed and followed her to the couch where he sat down and she plopped down beside him, her legs pulled to her chest.
She dropped her jaw against her locked knees and tore open the bag, proceeding to munch on the chips.
Malakai had his eyes on her, just watching her with interest. What was suddenly wrong with her? He’d never seen her this way before.
His eyes softened with a gentle glow and curiosity. His hands reached out before he could think, his fingers brushing back her hair that poured on either of her side so he could see her face.
Eve glanced at him. "What?" She lowered her gaze to the unopened bag. "You’re not eating with me?"
Her brows were raised with accusations.
Malakai let out a short laugh and shook his head in pure amusement. "I wouldn’t dare."
She shifted much closer to him, and without saying a word, she tipped her head to lay it against his shoulder, her attention on the sky.
He looked at her and averted his gaze to the ring on his finger, his thumb subconsciously grazing against it.
