Malakai’s eyes bored down at Eve with pure rage and he inhaled a shivering breath before twisting his gaze back to Patro who was convulsing in his grip.
"Malakai!" she squeaked, glancing at the door every now and then. "Please, let him go. I beg you."
A deep breath fled from him and he tossed his body to the floor.
Outside at the auction hall, the guests were all murmuring to each other, their eyes shifting to Herla every now and then.
"He couldn’t have done that...right?"
One of the guests responded to her comrade, "I doubt it. There has to be some sort of explanation. That may not even be Mr. Zolotov for all we know."
"That sounded exactly like him."
"Do you think she knew? I found out from someone that she used to be tight friends with Eve, Patro’s Ex mate."
The woman gasped at her friend and immediately shot a look at Herla. "You don’t think she..."
The friend nodded. "I’ve been suspecting it. But who am I? It isn’t exactly my business. I have my husband’s company to worry about."
Everyone was aware that Herla was Patro’s new woman. Did she know of all these? Was she aware and if she was, was she a part of the scheme?
But none of them could understand why a multi billionaire like Patro would go this far to ruin an omega that didn’t even amount to anything compared to him. It almost seemed...unbelievable?
Surely, Patro Zolotov wasn’t such a sadist, right...?
Herla was breathing heavily, almost as if she were near hyperventilating. She loved being the center of attention, but not like this—not with those suspecting, judging, gossiping eyes on her.
"What?" she questioned. "What are you looking at, huh? You really think that’s Patro? Every single one of you really believes Patro would waste his time on a lying, cheating slut of an ex-mate?"
"Well, the lots of you are stupid! That isn’t Patro, he doesn’t care enough to waste his time on her!" she snapped and with hands balled to her sides, she stormed out of the hall and began to head off—to find Patro.
Where was he?
...
"The CCTV camera inside this room?" Eve asked. "We need to get rid of it."
"Don’t worry about that. Ciaus handled it before we came in here," Malakai responded.
She let out a deep breath of relief. "Is there a way we can leave this place without anyone seeing us? I rather we avoid the reporters outside and having photos of us taken."
"Yes. Window."
"Huh?"
"We jump from the window."
"Are you asking me to die?"
"No," he said to her, the corners of his lips angling into a grin.
"Then...are you saying we’re going to...fly?" she inquired, a tinge of excitement in her tone.
He arched an amused brow at her. "If you call that flying...sure."
Then he snatched her hand all of a sudden and they left the operating room. They glanced from left to right, before hurrying off to one of the empty halls that had floor length windows. A punch was all he gave, and the window came breaking off into pieces.
But then—
"Wait! The jewelry."
Malakai glanced at her. "Don’t worry about it—" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Are you out of your mind?" Eve snapped at him. "That’s jewelry worth fifty million Weils!"
He blinked at her. "I wasn’t going to ask you to abandon it. Rather, one of my men will handle it."
"Oh." She slowly nodded and cleared her throat. "Thank you."
Malakai glanced at the floor feets deep away from them and grabbed her hand. He said, "When I jump off, follow right after me."
Eve glanced down and awkwardly smiled at him, pure fear clearly on her face. "Malakai...I’m not going to fall, am I?"
"No. Just Jump after me."
"I—"
"Jump after me."
"Okay, okay." She nodded rapidly and breathed in and out. "You remember I’m pregnant, right?"
Malakai weaved his fingers to the back of her head, grabbing and making her look directly into his eyes. "Do you need me to hypnotize you?"
"No! Don’t do that."
"Then trust me. Jump after me, unless you want to be hurdled by reporters and have your photos taken."
"Okay, okay. I’ll do it."
Malakai moved first, stepping off the window and as quickly as she could, she lifted her dress and stepped off after him. The air that slapped her face was the indication that she was falling and she’d begun screaming before she even knew it.
"Malakai!!!!"
"Relax." And at those words, the air stilled for a second and she drew in shaky breaths to steady her pounding heart.
"Malakai?"
"Open your eyes," he said.
She did, realizing she was in his firm grip. She was no longer falling, but was rather latched onto the man who held tight onto her in a bridal style.
Lowering her head to the floor that was at least six feet deep away from them, relief washed over her and she finally breathed.
"Are you okay?" Malakai inquired.
"Yes." She nodded.
"Good." He securely held onto her and slowly, they began to fall smoothly and controlled for the concrete floor beneath them.
Eve had her arms around him. "I have a question," she suddenly said.
"What is it?"
"Do you think by tomorrow, Patro will have it worse than I did?" she asked. "I mean...everyone in there heard what he said. They now know it’s all a lie and we know how this always works. I’m sure someone recorded it too."
"Are you afraid?"
"Afraid that he’ll still brainwash the media? Maybe a little." Her teeth bit into her bottom lip. "His family controls the media to an extent, you know."
Malakai nodded. "They will. This scandal might not ruin them, but it’ll hurt their reputation, a little bit. Like a painful scratch."
"What do we do?" she asked. "What if he gets them to change the story to something even much worse?"
The man was silent for a few moments before he rumbled coldly, "Do you trust me?"
"Huh?"
"Do you trust me, Eve?"
"Yes..." she swallowed. "But, what are you planning?"
He flashed a soft smile. "Wait and see."
