The doors of the elevator rolled open and Malakai stepped out, grasping onto Eve who followed after him. They made their way down the hallway of the third floor of the hotel until they arrived at the door with the number [607]

He turned the handle and stepped in with her, shutting it close. It was a private room and seated at the one of the chairs at the glass table was Caius, legs crossed and a pair of glasses perched atop the bridge of his nose.

Caius glanced at Malakai and shifted his gaze to Eve. He rose to his feet as they approached and reached for Eve’s hand, hunching and leaving a kiss at the dorsal of her hand.

He straightened up, only to blink at Malakai who was giving him a death stare as if he would skin him alive.

"What?" Caius cocked a brow at him. "Stop giving me that look. It’s called being polite, a gentlemanly action. Not that you’ll know that."

Not a trace of amusement was on Malakai’s face.

Caius nearly rolled his eyes, shifting his attention to Eve who held a crooked smile. "Please, have a seat." He gestured to one of the three seats at the table.

Eve proceeded to walk over, but she was stopped by Malakai’s grip around her wrist. She turned her head towards him, blinking. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Malakai?"

His thumb rubbed her wrist and he began approaching the table, saying not a single word.

Caius was rather amused, not sure what he was being so territorial for. It was merely a polite gesture. Besides it wasn’t as if she was his mate...

Oh!...

A look of confusion dawned on his face. That was absolutely impossible. Eve had been Patro’s mate, there was no way she could—

"Let’s get to business." Malakai’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts, a bite to it.

He looked at him and narrowed his eyes with a clear question stuck on his tongue, but instead of asking, he swallowed his curiosity and sat down opposite them.

"It is not that Elowen broke off the deal you had with her," he started.

Eve furrowed her brows. "Who’s Elowen?"

"The manager at TUD," Malakai responded and returned his attention to his brother. "What happened then?"

Caius crossed his legs. "Patro played dirty. He threatened her using her only child. A twelve-year-old pup."

Eve’s hands balled into fists. She wasn’t even surprised. That was just who Patro was—a man who would do anything to get what he wanted.

"I don’t blame her," Caius added. "Anyone would do anything for their pup."

She lowered her gaze to her belly and glanced at Malakai. "What if we can bring her to our side?"

Malakai was a bit taken aback.

"Our side? I don’t think that’s a good idea."

"Me neither," Caius chirped in. "She already works for Patro. What good would it do to bother any further with her?"

"That’s the thing," Eve said. "Anyone would do anything for their pup."

Malakai and Caius both furrowed their brows at her. They didn’t understand where she was coming from.

"I don’t...get it." He shook his head.

Eve looked at him. "You’ve interacted with this woman, do you think she would like to work for Patro...forever? A man who threatened the life of her child."

"No." He shook his head.

"Exactly," she said. "On a scale of one to ten, how well can you protect her kid?"

"I can protect the kid," Caius said before Malakai could answer. "Mother can keep the pup safe."

Eve raised a brow at Malakai. "Do you agree?"

"Yes." Malakai nodded. "The problem is getting my mother to agree to this." He eyed Caius who in response scoffed.

"Not even happening," he refused. "If you want a favor, you ask her directly yourself. It’s high time you visit her and stop avoiding her."

Malakai rubbed his temple. "She’ll kill me."

"You deserve it."

"You—"

"I’ll go with you," Eve interjected.

Malakai glanced at her. "Eve, you don’t have—"

"No, she wouldn’t be doing just you a favor, she will be doing me a favor as well. It is only right that I go with you."

"Are you sure about that?"

She nodded. "Absolutely."

"We need TUD or we’re never beating Patro," she added. "If we can guarantee her safety and that of her kid, she’ll stick with us."

Malakai thoughtfully stared at her for a few seconds. "Are you very confident about this plan?"

"Yes." Eve gave a nod. "You need to trust me."

"Alright then," he said. "We’ll stick with the plan."

Caius inquired. "Do I invite her?"

"No."

Eve shook her head.

Both men stared at her, lost.

A smile pulled at her lips. "She’ll come to us herself. She’ll seek us out. A week is what I give it. Let her come to us, then we’ll give her what she wants. In return, her full loyalty will be ours."

"You sound very sure that she’ll come to us." Malakai crossed his legs.

"Oh, she will." Her smile further stretched. "We just have to watch. One week."

Malakai crossed gazes with his brother, and he was going to speak, but the sound of messages pouring into Eve’s phone grabbed both of their attention.

She took out her phone, glanced at the screen and the smile on her face vanished.

"Who is it?" Malakai asked.

She replied, "Patro."

Caius furrowed his brows.

"My father, he’s ready to give him," she said. "He sent a location as well. Tonight at eight, dot."

"This is a bit strange, though..." Malakai mumbled.

Eve didn’t disagree with him. "If he truly wanted to give my father, I don’t think he would do it a day after holding a conference concerning the scandal. How sure could he be that I’ll be quiet? How could he be so sure that I wouldn’t act up once I got my father from him?"

"That is indeed quite strange," Caius agreed.

"Let me handle this myself, Eve," Malakai suggested.

She shook her head. "No. I’m going to see to the end of this. I want to see what Patro will do—what he has planned for me. I’m not backing out."

"Eve—"

"I’m not going to let you go there alone, Malakai. We’re doing this together, every step of the way. That is how a team works. And you and I, we are a team."

Malakai pinched between his brows.

"Okay," he agreed.

Eve beamed and picked up her phone.
