Ethan Sutton ran a hand through his hair, exasperated. "I’m not going! You go if you want to! ...Mom, what’s gotten into you? How did you become so superstitious? I can’t believe you fell for such obvious lies. I really don’t get you!"

After speaking, Ethan Sutton turned and stormed back to his room, fuming.

Mrs. Sutton watched him go, shaking her head helplessly.

She knew the recent events had hit Ethan hard, causing his personality to change drastically and leaving him emotionally unstable.

As a mother, Mrs. Sutton’s heart ached for her son. All she wanted now was for Joanne White to have Ethan’s child.

Once Ethan had a child, she would find a way to get him a wife. This woman wouldn’t need to be from a family of similar social standing to the Sutton Family; she just needed to be able to take good care of Ethan and the child.

"Godfather, I’ve successfully moved into a guest room in the Sutton house. Margaret Adler is pretty warm toward me, but her husband and son are very cold..."

As soon as Joanne White sent the message, a reply came back instantly:

"You need to find a way to win over Margaret Adler’s husband, Sean Sutton, as quickly as possible. He’s the one who truly controls the Sutton Family’s finances. There’s not much to gain from Margaret Adler anymore. In short, be careful and stick to our original plan!"

After reading the message, Joanne White pressed her lips together and replied:

"I understand, Godfather. Don’t worry."

After putting her phone down, Joanne White flopped back onto the bed as if she had been deflated.

She stared up at the ceiling for a moment, then closed her eyes in despair.

After her miscarriage, Zane Simmons hadn’t even let her rest. He’d had her sent straight back to her parents’ house and even recalled the bodyguards he had stationed there.

Now that the bodyguards were gone and only the three of them were left, how could those people possibly let such an opportunity pass?

So, the very next night, a group of thugs broke in and ransacked the White Family’s home.

When Joanne White heard the commotion and struggled out to the living room, she was stunned by the scene before her—both Mr. and Mrs. White were lying on the floor, covered in blood, their breathing so faint it was barely perceptible.

Joanne White threw herself beside her parents, desperately trying to apply pressure to their bleeding wounds. She took out her phone to call for an ambulance and even ran outside to cry for help from the neighborhood’s emergency office.

But it was all in vain. In the end, Mr. and Mrs. White died from blood loss...

Having lost her parents and with all her family’s supplies looted, Joanne White had no choice but to follow her mother’s dying wish and seek refuge with "Mr. Caelus."
