In the living room, Officer Tristan Tanner and Melody Summers looked at each other, speechless.

Melody Summers pinched the bridge of her nose in resignation. She leaned close and whispered in Officer Tanner’s ear, "Maybe we should just let it go..."

Here, take my snow boots and winter jacket. I haven’t worn them once since I got them. They’re still new. You could trade them for some rice on the black market!"

Mrs. Vance had been scared to death that day. She didn’t dare imagine the worst-case scenario. If something had really happened to her daughter-in-law and grandson, how could she have gone on?
