Xia Yuan looked at the smug expression on Wang Lizhen’s face and said with an apologetic smile, “Ah, you misunderstood. It’s not that Lu Aiguo is unwilling to buy them for me; he just dislikes leather shoes because they can make your feet smell when you walk.”

Then Xia Yuan stretched out her foot and pointed at her shoes for Wang Lizhen to see, “Look at these, he asked someone to buy them for me in Magic Capital. They are genuine leather. Lu Aiguo says that leather shoes have to be real leather to be comfortable. I was afraid they wouldn’t fit without trying them on, but they fit perfectly and are especially comfortable to wear.”

Wang Lizhen’s face suddenly changed.

Lu Yun watched the drama unfold with great interest, her face unable to hide her amusement.

Lu Yun tilted her head, thought for a moment, took half a laxative pill from her space, ground it into powder, and moved in front of the mother and daughter. With the wind in her favor, she flung the powder, most of which was inhaled by Wang Lizhen and Chen Qiuyu through their mouths and noses. They sneezed one after another, rubbing their noses and looking around, feeling as if they inhaled dust, but didn’t pay it much attention.

Lu Yun snickered inwardly. The products from her space were always top-notch, and although it was just half a pill, it would be enough for the mother and daughter to suffer for the next five or six hours.

At that very moment, the mule cart arrived.

Chen Lao Hou spat on the ground and cursed vehemently.

“Lu Aiguo is concerned for his wife and child. He came yesterday to reserve their seats. If you’re jealous, why didn’t you have Chen Dazhuang reserve your seats in advance? Although, I reckon Chen Dazhuang would rather spend that money on some other woman than on you, his yellow-faced wife.”

Having said that, Chen Lao Hou whipped the reins and the mule kicked up dust as it set off, leaving Wang Lizhen and her daughter eating dirt at the roadside.

On the mule cart, a young man laughed and asked Chen Lao Hou, “Uncle Chen, what were you implying with those words to Chen Dazhuang’s women? Did Chen Dazhuang really reserve a seat for another woman?”

“Is there any doubt?” Chen Lao Hou chuckled, “When have you ever seen me talking nonsense? If it weren’t for that woman coming at me like a rabid dog, I wouldn’t have provoked her.”

“So who exactly is Chen Dazhuang’s mistress? Is it someone from the Lin Family…” The man leaned in excitedly, probing further. The others also pricked up their ears, showing great enthusiasm.

He refused to divulge more, yet the remaining four people on the cart just couldn’t keep their mouths shut and eagerly continued the discussion.

Xia Yuan didn’t like to talk about people behind their backs, but that didn’t prevent her from enjoying listening; she found the gossip quite engaging. Lu Yun was young and naturally didn’t speak much. Recalling the fate of Wang Lizhen’s family, she couldn’t help but show contempt.

Wang Lizhen’s family was quite bizarre indeed. Instead of living a decent life, the women liked to stir up trouble everywhere, while the husband was notorious for flirting. They had two sons and a daughter but did not raise them properly.

The children were wild, fighting with others and causing trouble all day, and their parents didn’t stop them but rather praised them for not being at a loss. If the children from other families were beaten and came knocking on their door, these parents would blindly defend their offspring, leading all three of them to become more difficult than the next, growing up into adults who were perpetually aggressive and selfish.
