As soon as he returned to the Ding Family villa, Ding Gaoqun didn’t even wait to enter the room. Right in the hallway, in front of bodyguards and villa servants, he grabbed Chen Qiuyu’s hair and slapped her cheeks repeatedly, back and forth over a dozen times.

Remembering how he had unintentionally offended some terrifying figure of unknown background today, his face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. Looking at Chen Qiuyu curled up on the ground, still not satisfying his anger, he rushed over and proceeded to beat and kick her savagely.

Chen Qiuyu didn’t resist, because she had too much experience with this; resistance would only bring about another round of even more violent beating. She used her arms to protect her head and face as much as possible, while secretly, the hatred in her eyes was so intense it was almost bleeding.

Finally, after Ding Gaoqun had vented his fury, he flopped down on the sofa and took out a cigar. Someone immediately came over and respectfully lit it for him.

I’ve always been grateful to you; I know too well that if you’re well, I’m well—how could I not understand that principle?"

Ding Gaoqun looked at her and, as usual, didn’t see a hint of pretense on Chen Qiuyu’s face or in her eyes; instead, he saw gratitude, admiration, and complete submission.

He pondered for a while, finally nodded his head, choosing to believe her. His expression then softened as he pinched her chin without a hint of apology, "So I was wrong to blame you?"

Overall, Ding Gaoqun was quite satisfied with Chen Qiuyu, his current wife. Although she was a second marriage and infertile, precisely because of this, she was exceedingly obedient to him.

Since the first time he couldn’t resist hitting her and ordered her to address him as "Master," she fully exhibited the submissive nature of ancient women, treating their husbands as their heaven, and he found it quite pleasing.

He had always had the habit of hitting women. His first wife could not bear his repeated violence, and so, even after he had become wealthy, she insisted on emigrating abroad with their only son.

He was actually aware that such actions could not be repeated over and over. So, he let go of one who was rather sensible, dispatching her with just a little money. It must be admitted, of all his wives, only Chen Qiuyu stayed with him the longest after his original wife and satisfied him the most.

The investigation showed that Ding Gaoqun was indeed lascivious, but he was also cautious and had some discernment. He generally avoided provoking women with any significant status or background.

If Ding Gaoqun knew of her and Shitou’s identities, let alone her merely above-average looks, even if she were a heavenly beauty, given his usual caution, he would never have approached her so rashly.
