’Oi! Just how long will I have to kneel here? My knees are hurting so much. Ugh, and my body...! Why is it not listening to me?’
Sir Marcus’s expression was not good. He was thinking of different ways in which he could kill Kael inside his head.
But with the way his body currently was, there was not much he could do, and both he and Kael knew it.
"Sir Spencer, I will give you one chance to apologize to me and make a vow that you will not try to come after me again. If you do that, then I will leave you and your pathetic business alone."
The kid promised, and Marcus felt a stab of jealousy and resentment rise inside him.
"How dare you call my business pathetic? The only pathetic one here is you, who cannot even start a business. And me? Apologize to you? Dream on! You should be the one to apologize to me—"
The beast let out another roar, and the fire almost hit Marcus. But he managed to pull himself back in time and somehow survived.
The look on Kael’s face told him that the kid had allowed this only because he did not want to accidentally kill Marcus.
"So, is this your official stance? Well, since you refuse to do what I asked, I have no choice but to retaliate against you."
"Ha! As if you could do anything. You might be playing tough, but you will get into so much trouble if you touch me. My allies will not sit still."
Kael warned Marcus, but Marcus immediately fired back with those words.
He had a lot of paid mages and warriors at his beck and call. Moreover, he had the temple in the palm of his hand financially as well.
As long as he got to live, he would be the one who had the last laugh.
Sigh
"Alright, give me a list of your allies. Since you want to intimidate me, I might as well listen to you."
The kid told him, and Marcus immediately started bragging.
"You want to know my allies? I have so many that I cannot even count them all. But just know that if you hurt me, you will not only make an enemy of the nobility but of the temple as well."
Kael paused and gave him a blank look.
"You...have ties to the temple?"
The kid asked in a low voice, and Marcus immediately bragged even harder.
"Of course I have ties to the temple. Do you see how great I am now? Try to go against me and—"
"Hahaha, oh! This is perfect. Not only am I taking my revenge, but I am also screwing over one of the temple’s financial backers as well? Things could not be much better."
The kid started laughing maniacally, which made Marcus worried.
’Has this kid lost his mind? Well, why else would he attack me so openly like this? Darn it! Am I dealing with a madman here?’
"W-What is so funny?"
Marcus asked in a low voice, wanting to know why Kael was laughing so hard. But his question only made Kael laugh even harder.
"Oh, it’s nothing. I am just thinking about how perfect this situation is. Lyra, do you want to take revenge? Here, go wild. I will make sure to trash the treasury and all the paperwork. I want to make sure the temple does not get any financial backing from this place."
Kael stood up, and Marcus immediately felt a stab of fear.
"D-Don’t do that! Those papers...! They are necessary for me to keep earning money. Think of the servants and such—"
Marcus pointed out, and Kael finally paused.
"Ah yes, I forgot about the servants. Alright, I won’t destroy this place. But I cannot let you handle it either. So, I guess I will be appointing a new head of this family."
Kael declared, and Marcus let out a laugh in his head.
’Ha! Good luck trying. No one with a brain would take this job while I still possess the family ring. I paid a handsome sum to keep it locked behind protective spells so that only I could gain access to it—’
Marcus watched with wide eyes as Kael opened his drawer before taking out the ring box. He also showed no signs of struggle when he opened the box itself and took out the ring.
"Wow, this is a beautiful ring. I can see why it is regarded so highly. It almost makes me want to keep it."
Kael sounded excited, but Marcus felt like his life was ending.
"D-Don’t! Don’t touch it! That is my ring! I will not hand it over—"
Marcus could not even move, and now that Kael had the family ring, he could not go against him either.
But he still fought against his restraints to try and get free.
While he was struggling so pathetically, the door opened and his butler entered. Marcus immediately turned toward him for help.
"Oi, Sebastian, help me out here! Can’t you see that your master is all tied up here?"
He yelled, but his butler took one look at him before ignoring him and instead turning toward the person who was holding him hostage.
"Sir, I have brought your coffee. Would you like to have some? I also brought something for your puppy."
The butler was a traitor and another person Marcus needed to get rid of once he was free. He already had the perfect revenge planned in his head.
However, it all came to a halt when he watched Kael betray him in the worst way possible.
The kid took the coffee and then a sip before making a pleased noise.
"I like this coffee, and it seems like Lyra is enjoying her treat as well. It seems like I have made my decision."
The kid spoke before he stood up and grabbed the butler’s hand.
"You seem like a capable man. Are you a noble?"
Kael asked, and the butler hesitated before answering.
"I am a noble, but not from a great family. Actually, I am from a fallen baronial family that lives on the outskirts. I have a wife and two kids who rely on me."
The butler told his sob story, and Kael listened to it with interest.
Marcus had a bad feeling about all this, and his instincts told him that he needed to do something before a tragedy happened.
"Hey! Don’t do it! Whatever you are thinking of, don’t do it!"
But Kael ignored him and put the family ring on the butler’s finger.
The butler was now the new head of House Spencer.
