Raising Yanderes to save the world

Kael immediately dispelled the spell the Cardinal had cast on him. It was not a spell meant to last, but rather to serve as a warning for him not to underestimate the Cardinal.

"So he has even started using cheap tricks now? What an annoyance."

He complained before he started walking home.

Kael decided to buy some sweets and other necessities for his house before heading back. It was a bribe for the kids so they would not ask what he had been doing.

He reached home well before lunchtime, but he immediately sensed three presences inside the house that made him hurry up and head toward the living room.

Leon and Iris were nowhere to be seen, so he followed their presences and headed toward Seraphina’s room.

"-hand me the towel. Get me some cold water as well."

Iris sounded stressed and Kael immediately opened the door to check what was going on.

The first thing he noticed was that Seraphina was lying in bed with a flushed face. The next thing he noticed was the other two trying to help her out.

His presence went unnoticed for a while until Leon turned around and dropped the water container he was holding after colliding with him.

"Is Seraphina sick?"

Kael asked in a concerned voice.

Seraphina was a saintess with very strong powers. She was not supposed to ever get sick. In fact, he could not recall her ever being sick in his past life.

This divergence felt concerning and Kael wondered if this was his fault for interfering with her life.

"I don’t think she’s sick. She shows no other symptoms other than being really hot. It feels like she has heatstroke."

Iris told him as she continued to place cloths soaked in cold water on Seraphina’s head. But Seraphina was so hot that the cloth dried within seconds.

"Let me check."

Kael reached toward Seraphina’s head, but he could feel the heat even before he touched her forehead.

Such intense heat could not be the result of a normal fever. Kael was sure that something else was going on here.

But he needed Seraphina to stay alive before he could investigate what was happening and find a cure.

’Let’s see. I am sure I have a heat reducer somewhere around here. Hmm, where did I keep it...?’

Kael headed to his room and immediately looked for what he needed. The small purple bottle was hard to recognize because of his hazy memory, but he found it because he had labeled it.

He mixed it with water since the thick solution was hard to swallow and decided to help Seraphina drink it himself.

Iris looked relieved to hand over the caregiving duty to someone else. Her attempts to help Seraphina had been clumsy and even the amount of water she used was too much. Kael had a feeling Seraphina would have been drenched in water if she had not been so hot.

"Seraphina, can you hear me? I need you to wake up and try drinking this."

Kael told her and Seraphina barely managed to keep her eyes open before she looked at the glass in his hand.

"W-What’s t-"

"Shh, don’t speak. Just focus on drinking for now. Even getting this in your mouth will help."

Kael told her and Seraphina barely opened her mouth before he pressed the glass to her lips.

The liquid in the glass had a hard time going into Seraphina’s mouth at first, but she started feeling better as soon as a few drops went in. Her mouth slowly relaxed until she could drink the whole glass of the bitter liquid.

"Are you feeling better now?"

Kael asked Seraphina and she nodded before finally sitting up by herself.

Her fever had gone down considerably, but she was still nowhere near ’safe’ territory.

"I am fine...I think. I can get up now-"

"Stay in bed, but take off the covers. I will make this room extra cold for you. Do you recall anything that could have triggered this?"

Kael questioned Seraphina to get to the bottom of this situation, but she shook her head.

"I don’t recall anything happening. One second, I was sitting and the next I felt so hot that I wanted to tear my skin apart."

It sounded like a curse. But Kael’s place had a barrier around it that prevented curses from reaching anyone inside.

There was no way Seraphina could have been cursed. So there was likely another reason...

"She was concentrating on her powers before she collapsed. She told me that she felt like she touched a sun inside her chest. Do you think it was because of that?"

Leon asked and Kael felt something stir in the back of his mind.

These symptoms and that story about touching the sun...wasn’t this an awakening?

’Has Seraphina already started to unlock her powers as the saintess? But wasn’t it an instant thing in my past life? I lost consciousness during that attack, but I still recall that Seraphina had no powers one second and exploded with power the next to help Leon and me out...’

This was another change Kael did not know what to do with. But one thing he did know was that he needed to reassure Seraphina that nothing was wrong with her.

She was already looking terrified about what all this meant and whether Kael regretted taking her in.

"It seems like you are having an awakening. Your powers must have started manifesting and that is causing this fever. Fortunately, this seems to be a joyous occasion. Congratulations, Seraphina."

Seraphina’s eyes lit up at his words and she looked much more confident compared to a few seconds ago.

"I...am awakening? Are you sure? But I possibly cannot-"

"Well, it seems like it does not matter whether you think you can awaken or not, because it’s already happening. But there’s no need to be scared. I will help you out as much as I can."

Kael promised Seraphina and her fears lessened a little. Her eyes became determined and she looked at Kael with certainty.

"How can I get better?"

There was only one way to control her fever and recover quickly.

"You will need to learn how to control your powers. Since we still have no idea what kind of power you have awakened, we will go through the general training for controlling powers. Once you are a little further along, we can determine what kind of power you have and get you started on specialized training."
