Chapter 203: Ball Gym Challenge

The next morning.

Ecruteac City Pokémon Center.

"Ash, Mr. Morty’s Gengar seems very strong. Who are you planning to send out?" Misty asked curiously.

"For now, Noctowl and Houndoom. The last one depends on the situation."

Morty’s Gengar is a Quasi-Elite Middle Stage, but Ash is still unsure about his other Pokemon, so he felt it was best to leave a spot open as a backup.

However, the only old Pokemon he had with him was Pikachu; the others weren’t present. Deoxys and Gallade, who possesses a super evolution stone, could serve as backup roles.

Ash glanced at Gastly’s level, then said, "You’re up, Houndour!"

"Houndour, use Dark Pulse!"

Houndour stared at the opposing Gastly with fierce eyes, releasing a terrifying aura filled with malice from its body. Gastly, seeing the vicious Houndour, involuntarily floated back two meters.

"Gastly, don’t be afraid of it! Use Lick."

Gastly stretched out its long tongue and swept it towards Houndour.

"Houndour, seize the opportunity and step on it."

"I didn’t expect Morty to be so decisive, and that Gastly has already learned the move Destiny Bond," Brock exclaimed.

Misty looked at Brock and asked, "Destiny Bond? Brock, what kind of move is that?"

She still didn’t understand. Houndour clearly had the upper hand, but after the shadow, both of them fell to the ground.

"Destiny Bond is a mutual KO move. After it’s used, if the user is hit and rendered unable to battle, then the attacking side will also be rendered unable to battle," Brock explained.

Morty’s battle strategy put Ash on alert. "It’s your turn next, Noctowl!"

"Go, Haunter!" Morty also sent out his next Pokemon.

When Ash saw that this Haunter also knew the Destiny Bond move, he was a bit speechless. What kind of Ghost Gym is this?!

"Noctowl, use Miracle Eye to find Haunter."

Facing Ash’s command, Morty hurriedly shouted, "Haunter, disrupt it!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Haunter’s hands flew towards Noctowl in mid-air.

Seeing this, Ash knew that Morty didn’t intend to let Noctowl use its move, so he shouted, "Noctowl, quickly dodge!"

After dodging a few times, Noctowl was accidentally struck on the wing by one of Haunter’s hands and fell directly to the ground.

"Excellent, Haunter, now use Shadow Claw."

"Noctowl, use Psybeam to reveal Haunter."

Before Shadow Claw could hit Noctowl, Noctowl’s move erupted. Under a dazzling beam of light, Haunter was forced to open its eyes as if staring at a flashbang explosion, rubbing its eyes with its claws.

"Excellent, Noctowl, finish it with Zen Headbutt."

With the final move hitting, Haunter immediately lost its ability to battle.

"What a powerful Psychic-type move, Ash! You’re truly not simple!"

Morty didn’t expect Ash’s Noctowl to be so strong; he didn’t even have time to let Haunter use Destiny Bond.

"Morty, I’ve seen through your Destiny Bond strategy. Your Gengar also knows this move, right?" Ash asked, knowing the answer.

"It does."

Morty admitted it quite generously.

And indeed, his last Pokemon to appear was Gengar.

"Noctowl, use Psychic!"

"Gengar, use Shadow Sneak!"

The two moves collided again. This time, Gengar had a slight advantage. As Shadow Sneak exploded, the resulting Impact had some effect on Noctowl.

"That Gengar is indeed Morty’s ace Pokemon, so strong!" Misty exclaimed.

The next second, Gengar disappeared from its spot.

"Noctowl, use Miracle Eye."

As red light emitted from Noctowl’s eyes, the hidden Gengar, charging up a move, was revealed.

"Gengar, don’t be afraid of it, attack quickly."

As Morty’s voice fell, Gengar used Sucker Punch, hitting Noctowl hard.

"Noctowl, are you okay?" Ash asked.

Noctowl got up, shook its head, and flew again.

"Noctowl, use Extrasensory."

"Coo~~"

Noctowl opened its beak and let out an extremely piercing sound wave.

Upon hearing this sound, the invisible Gengar involuntarily revealed itself, its small, stubby hands desperately trying to cover its ears.

Seeing Gengar completely exposed, Ash shouted, "Noctowl, finish it with your last Extrasensory!"

"Gengar is unable to battle! The challenger wins this match!"

"Ash, I lost. This is the Phantom gym badge, please take it!" Morty said, retrieving Gengar, and walking over with a gym badge.

Ash took the gym badge. "Thank you, Mr. Morty."
