- Chapter 1: Max Sullivan
Approaching The Lord, I couldn’t contain my concern. "What happened? Why the red alert?" I asked.
"A particle different than a Quasar has passed the barrier from the Zytherian side. Zytherians breached the barrier. We are moving into the highest state of crisis." The Lord’s response was swift and decisive.
I pressed further, "What exact particle was it?"
"I will explain later. Actually, no. Someone more knowledgeable will provide the details."
As I glanced around, I noticed that some of the people in the group were already hurrying away; their attention diverted elsewhere. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The Lord then gestured for us to follow as we moved towards the bubble elevators.
Amidst the commotion, he explained, "There is a bunker ready, and all the brightest minds from around the universe have been relocated there with their families. However, there is limited space. Each person can only bring their family, but exceptions are made for those of the highest priority."
My father could not hold back, "What do you mean by exceptions?" he asked.
The Lord paused for a moment before responding, "Sir Sullivan can bring 10 people together with him."
Upon hearing this, Olivia’s eyes widened with realization. "I need to inform my parents, Max!" she exclaimed, her voice urgent.
I nodded in understanding, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don’t worry, Oliv. We’ll take care of everything," I assured her, my gaze also meeting Veronica’s and my parents’.
As the elevator ascended towards the top of Coelus, we reached a massive open plaza. To one side, a line of enormous dome compartments stretched out before us.
"These are mass Observers." The Lord explained.
When I turned around, I saw that everyone from Coelus was gathering in the plaza. Unfortunately, they only had access to public entrances, which led to a chaotic scene as people jostled to get inside.
Military personnel clad in laser-proof gear and armed with plasma-powered weapons guarded the entrances, quelling any attempts to force their way through with swift and decisive action.
"They don’t know what happened; they think it’s the end of the world, and it might as well be," The Lord remarked solemnly.
We made our way towards one of the compartments, and a few dozen scientists and politicians followed behind us.
I couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret; this wasn’t what I wanted; I really didn’t like how things had escalated. I didn’t do all of what The Architects wanted just to be defeated my the Zytherians.
"The Lord," I spoke up, my voice tinged with uncertainty, "tell me, what’s the situation really like? Can the Zytherians move anything through the barrier?"
Next thing I heard, was someone stuttering, "Uhmm... uh, Max, Maximillian Sullivan, right?"
Turning around, I found myself face to face with a man whose appearance seemed straight out of a scientist stereotype. He wore a white coat over his attire, glasses perched on his nose, and dark, curly hair that seemed to have a mind of its own.
"Yes," I replied simply.
The man didn’t come any closer but introduced himself, "I... I’m Scholar Saturn Cesar. Nice... Nice to meet you. I heard that you... you’re one of the smartest people alive."
Before I could respond, The Lord interjected, "Scholar Cesar is one of the three Scholars in the cluster. We invited all of the Scholars to help us with the problem."
The name Cesar Saturn seemed oddly mismatched, I thought.
"When it comes to your question, Sir Sullivan, The Zytherians have been sending fermions through the barrier, and fermions only. I suspect that they can send any particles with odd half-integer spins. I’m guessing that they can’t send particles that fill the entire spin-space themselves."
There was a lot of information in what Scholar Cesar Saturn said.
Listening intently, I considered his explanation. "I understand. Maybe they need some of that spin-space for a special purpose?" I suggested.
Scholar Cesar Saturn nodded in agreement. "On arrival, the spin-space is not an integer value."
Lost in the conversation, I suddenly remembered my primary concern. Turning to The Lord, I pleaded, "Alright, The Lord, please, will you be able to retrieve my family members to keep them safe?"
He nodded solemnly, assuring me of their safety.
As we entered the compartment, I found myself lost in thought, contemplating who else we needed to bring with us.
My parents and girlfriends were essential, but who else? My brother, my sister, Oliv’s parents, and Veronica’s mother accounted for nine people.
With one more space available, I pondered over potential candidates.
Alex? Rick Rosby? Casandra?
And what about my brother’s girlfriend? Were they still together?
There is so many people.
...
Meanwhile, in the heart of the Zytherian Cluster, a massive laboratory buzzed with activity as hundreds of scientists worked tirelessly to accomplish the breakthrough they had been striving for.
In one corner of the lab, experiments with Quasars were underway.
Scientists manipulated Quasars in time, they made the appearence of the Qusar to coincide with the exact moment a particle passed through the barrier.
As the particle traversed the boundary, the modified Quasars appeared, constructing a particle with a full integer spin-space, and allowing the particle to pass through with the Quasar.
That was followed by the Quasar moving back in time, to stay in the Zytherian cluster, leaving the resulting rest of the particle as it passed to the other side.
Scientists huddled together, their faces more alive then ever.
Someone stepped forward in the middle of the busy lab, getting the attention of all the scientists.
It was Maximillian Sullivan. The leader scientist of the team. The double who existed in the Zytherian cluster was living his own life. His eyes were heavy with dark circles from countless hours of tireless work.
"Let’s not stop here," Maximillian began, his voice exhausted, "What if we applied this same technology to bosons?"
"If we do that, then we could transport entire human bodies through the barrier," he continued.
As Max spoke, a mixture of reactions spread across the room. Some scientists regarded him with a detached gaze, as if seeing him more as a machine than a fellow human being.
In a dark corner of the lab, a man watched silently as Maximillian worked tirelessly, coming up with idea after idea.
There was something unsettling about his presence.
His smile stretched into a sinister grin.
"I hope The Lord continues to fulfill his purpose," he whispered.
