- Chapter 1: Max Sullivan
Following the crowd, I entered the front door of the university.
The door itself was enormous, made of metal, and wide open. Inside, the main corridor had a ceiling that was probably twice as high as those on Earth, and the width of the corridor was also significantly broader.
Feeling a bit lost, I looked around for guidance.
There were schedules displayed on screens along the walls, but I had no clue about the class I was supposed to attend.
Just as confusion started to set in, someone touched my shoulder and exclaimed, "Maxi!"
When I turned around, a girl who was even paler than my alleged mother greeted me.
She appeared so skinny that I was genuinely concerned about her well-being.
Suppressing my thoughts on their peculiar definition of health, I replied casually, "Yeah?"
She asked, "You got some pills?"
I answered, "Yeah, I do."
She smiled in a way that sent shivers down my spine and said, "Sell me some."
I asked, "What color?"
She chuckled. "Color? Well... white, of course."
I took out a satchel from my purse containing five white pills and handed it to her, saying, "Same as always."
I was concerned that I had never sold any pills to her, but she seemed to know me well.
She gave me three blue bills, expressed her thanks, made a peculiar sign with her pinky finger, and walked away.
I stopped the girl in her tracks and asked, "Oh, do you know where I have classes, by the way?"
She looked at me like I was a weirdo and said, "Wtf is that question?"
I explained, "I took it last night, and I’m a bit disoriented."
She responded with a puzzled expression, "You took? What? Well, just check your class on the plan," and quickly walked away.
Well, that doesn’t help...
As I approached the plans a guy ran by and yelled, "Maxi! Come on! We’re late!"
I quickly ran after him, considering myself lucky.
We sprinted upstairs and finally reached a classroom, where we hurriedly got inside.
Glancing at the symbols on the screen at the front of the class, I realized it was a chemistry class.
I thought that this might be where he learned to make drugs. Do they teach this?
As we entered the class, I noticed two girls who stood out from the others—they weren’t as skinny as the rest.
One of them waved at me, and there happened to be an empty seat next to her. I figured this was where I usually sat during lectures.
Making my way to the spot, I sat down, silently hoping that the girl wasn’t my girlfriend, as things could get awkward quickly.
To my surprise, the girl next to me put her head on my shoulder, but almost immediately, the girl beside her pulled her towards herself, like she was jealous.
It occurred to me that this might be a case of a playboy—a drug dealer and a playboy, quite a combo I have got here.
The teacher, who surprisingly was overweight, started talking about a chemistry concept called "picky molecules."
Imagine you’re baking cookies, and you want only chocolate chip ones, not raisins.
It’s like making sure only the chocolate chip version gets baked. This is crucial in things like medicine, where you want to create specific molecules for certain effects.
He explained that in the tiny world of molecules, some are like left-handed gloves, and some are right-handed.
It’s important to choose the right glove for the job.
The teacher delved into the details, explaining how chirality influences molecular interactions and the significance of obtaining specific stereoisomers.
He talked about how hard it is to make catalysts that are highly selective and how chiral asymmetry can change the result of a reaction.
On Earth, this would be a topic for Doctors in the field, but here it seemed to be in the undergraduate program.
After the chemistry class wrapped up, Mark, the guy who arrived late with me, came up to me and asked, "You want to go out?"
I said, "Sure. Let’s go."
He asked, "Where, though?"
I answered, "Pick the place yourself’
Mark thought for a second and asked, "Do we invite anyone?"
I said, "Why not?"
He then gathered Sharlotte, the girl who put her head on my shoulder. Imir, the other girl who sat near me, and Oriol, a tall and slim guy.
It seemed like our little group was ready for whatever Mark had in mind.
It turned out that there was a three-hour break before the next class, and Mark led us to a peculiar place to hang out.
It took us about 15 minutes to walk there, passing by strange billboards advertising food that looked like a messy concoction.
Finally, we arrived at the spot, giving off a vibe reminiscent of a funeral, but they seemed to like it. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
It resembled a drug den, complete with comfy sofas.
As we entered, Mark asked a question that gave me an idea of how I could disrupt things here.
He asked, "Are you gonna make more of the blue MDMA? People be asking about it."
It suddenly clicked – those pills were ecstasy, and it appeared I had been producing and distributing them.
Where was this Maximillian making those drugs though? How did he not get caught?
I took out three satchels with the blue pills from my purse and tossed them over to Mark, who caught them with a grin. "Okay, I’m gonna sell those," he declared.
The girls and Oriol observed from the side, and Oriol finally asked, "Do you have any of the regular ones?"
I retrieved a satchel with the white pills and questioned him, "Are you going to pay?"
For some reason, the guy seemed scared of me and promptly pulled out three blue bills.
I tossed him the pills, and he handed me the bills.
I couldn’t fathom why these people were so uneasy around me; I didn’t look like someone who could intimidate them physically.
After that, the girls and Oriol each took a pill, seemingly having the time of their lives.
However, after about two hours of fun, as we made our way back, it was clear they weren’t enjoying themselves as much.
There were two more classes, one in chemistry and another in mathematics, both well beyond the level of undergraduates on Earth.
After the classes ended, Sharlotte rushed up to me in the corridor and asked, "Can I come with you to your house?"
I replied, "No. I didn’t even drive to university in my car today. Maybe next time."
She seemed a bit disappointed. What did she want to do at my house anyway?
I remembered the way back home when my supposed mother took me here. It took me over an hour to get back on foot.
As I got near the house, I saw the car parked there, indicating that my mother was probably home.
Did I have a father?
Upon entering the house, I was immediately greeted with a sentence I did not expect. My mother asked from the kitchen, "Did you sell any?"
Did I sell any? Did she mean the drugs? Was she in it with me?
I decidded to play along, I entered the kitchen and placed six blue bills on the table.
My mother smiled and remarked, "It’s really selling, hmm? There will be someone coming this evening with a new batch of the product. The blue ones seem to really sell like doughnuts; you can make more of those."
I nodded and then headed back to my room.
Holy shit... I didn’t expect that. This was incredible.
If I could enhance those pills further and make them even more addicting and harmful in a way that wouldn’t be immediately noticeable... I could try and spread them widely enough to become popular on a global scale.
Yes.
That’s exactly what I’m going to do.
First, though, I needed to find out where I was making them. Is it somewhere here in this house?
I decided to check the most obvious place: the basement, which the house appeared to have.
I descended the stairs into a spacious room with unpainted walls, but there seemed to be nothing there.
However, I didn’t give up. If it were me, I would hide it in a way that made it virtually undiscoverable.
I began touching each part of the walls with my palm and sure enough. One piece of the walls was made out of a similar material to the ones at Coelus.
It was probably an extremely expensive technology here.
As soon as my hand touched the spot on the unpainted wall, a part of it opened up to the side, revealing what looked like some sort of laboratory with dozens of different transparent equipment, big and small.
Now. There was only one problem.
Completing my goal in a week would be impossible and I had no idea what would the original Maximillian do when he got his body back.
What should I do? Do I get back for the Noble Ceremony for a day, and hope that everything will be alright?
