For a moment, Sienna just stared at her phone like it had turned into something unreal.

Her thoughts felt slow and fuzzy, like they were wrapped in cotton. She tilted her head slightly as she focused on the voice coming through.

“Wow… wow…” she murmured, breaking into a bright, slightly dazed smile. “Mr. Handsome Zach… it’s you…”

There was a short pause.

“Yes, it’s me,” Zachary replied, his tone now clearly confused. “Sienna… are you drunk?”

“Wow, I can’t believe it… Mr. Dangerous-for-my-sanity actually picked up my call,” she went on, completely ignoring his question.

Then she laughed.

Not her usual soft laugh, but something light, loud, and almost carefree.

The sound filled her empty apartment, echoing off the walls and making it feel less lonely.

On the other end, Zachary stayed silent for a moment, clearly trying to figure out what was going on.

“Sienna,” he said again, this time more serious, “where are you right now?”
