- Chapter 1: A Dream That Wouldn’t Let Go
Every eye turned toward the tower gate.
Fire, smoke, and shattered debris engulfed the entrance, completely obscuring whatever lay beyond.
Almost instinctively, every hunter assumed a battle stance. Whether S-Class or A-Class, they could all feel it.
The malice.
The overwhelming sense of dread spreading through the air.
An invisible pressure slowly descended upon the area, growing heavier with every passing second.
There was no doubt about it. Whatever had caused that explosion was far from an ordinary opponent.
The smoke began to disperse.
Thud!
The ground didn’t tremble, yet the sound alone was enough to send chills down the hunters’ spines.
Thud!
Another step.
Thud!
A third.
This time, something emerged from the smoke.
A leg. Crimson-red skin covered a rigid, muscular frame.
Then came an arm, bent at the elbow as it rested something massive across its shoulder.
The smoke continued to thin.
And finally...
Everyone saw it.
A towering figure nearly two and a half meters tall stood before them. Its skin was crimson red. Its physique wasn’t bulky, yet every muscle appeared perfectly defined and packed with explosive power. A long tail swayed behind it, whipping through the air as though eager to tear something apart.
Its face was even more disturbing. Three eyes were aligned vertically down the center of its face. Two jagged horns protruded from its head.
It was the demon. The Rank 3 Demon that had nearly killed Noira. Only a few minutes had passed since Noira had barely escaped from its grasp.
But here it was...
Already standing outside the Delvan Tower.
Behind it, the gigantic metallic gate lay shattered into countless pieces, as though it had been made of fragile glass.
The demon’s three eyes swept across the area, scanning every hunter present.
Then its lips curled upward. "Food."
A twisted grin spread across its face. "Muahahahahaha! So much food! I love it!"
Its mad, wild, unrestrained laughter echoed across the arena.
"It can talk?" Archie frowned. "What the hell is that thing?"
"A d—" Leon began.
"Demon." But, Stanley finished the sentence for him.
The old man’s expression had become unusually grave as he stared at the creature standing before the shattered tower gate.
Leon was slightly taken aback. ’Looks like the Guild Master of the Raging Bull doesn’t know what we’re dealing with, but Stanley Cooper does.’
His gaze shifted toward the old man. ’Well, that’s the strongest S-Class hunter in Delvan for you. But the real question is... how does he know it’s a demon? Has he encountered one before? And if he has, does he know how to deal with it?’
Leon’s eyes narrowed slightly. ’If he does, then I need to keep my eyes open through out everything that is about to happen next. Maybe I’ll learn something useful. That demon purging aura Frenrir mentioned... Stanley might know something about it.’
Lost in countless questions and possibilities, Leon completely failed to notice Frenrir’s expression.
The man’s eyes had turned bloodshot. He was glaring at the demon with undisguised hatred. "Where is my sister?!" His furious roar echoed across the arena as he took a step forward.
The demon, which had been savoring the sight of so many prey gathered before it, slowly turned its head toward Frenrir.
Its grin widened. Yet it said nothing. Instead, it raised a hand and pointed its index finger at him. Then the finger curled repeatedly.
A clear gesture. A provocation.
The veins on Frenrir’s forehead bulged violently. He lowered his body slightly, his teeth grinding together.
"You filthy creature." His voice trembled with rage. "Tell me you didn’t hurt my sister."
His body suddenly began to expand. Muscles swelled. Thick fur rapidly spread across his skin. His face elongated into a wolf-like muzzle, while razor-sharp fangs protruded from his mouth. Under everyone’s stunned gaze, Frenrir revealed his true form.
His beast form.
Silence fell across the battlefield. Everyone was shocked beyond words. Even Stanley Cooper.
’He’s a monster? But can turn into a human, too? If he hadn’t transformed, I would have never known. Not even a hint.’ Stanley was shocked beyond words. So were the others who had seen what happened just now. They all could barely believe their eyes.
But before anyone could recover from their shock...
Frenrir moved. He leaned forward. And then...
BOOM!
The ground exploded beneath his feet. A violent shockwave erupted from where he had been standing. His body shot forward like a missile.
"Die!" He roared.
In an instant, he appeared before the demon and drove a punch straight toward its face.
The demon didn’t move. It didn’t dodge. It didn’t try to block it either. It simply stood there, watching as Frenrir’s clenched fist approached.
Then...
THUD!
The beastly fist crashed into the demon’s face with every ounce of strength Frenrir could master.
A powerful shockwave erupted from the impact, sweeping across the arena and kicking up dust in every direction.
Yet...
The demon didn’t flinch. It didn’t stumble. Not even an inch.
Its three eyes remained locked onto Frenrir’s.
Calm. Unbothered.
As though the attack had been nothing more than a gentle breeze.
Then, slowly, the demon raised its left hand.
It drew its arm to the right.
And then...
SMACK!
A casual backhand slap. Nothing more. But...
Whoosh!
Frenrir’s body vanished from sight. The air let out a shrill whistle as he was launched across the arena like a cannonball.
A moment later...
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted in the distance.
The ground shook violently. Chunks of rock and debris soared into the sky.
Silence. Complete silence.
Stanley stood frozen. His expression gradually stiffened.
’He is strong. Very strong. At the very least, he possesses the strength of an S-Class hunter.
Yet...
A single slap.
Just one casual backhand sent him flying like that.’
A chill crept down Stanley’s spine. ’What kind of strength is that?’ His heart grew heavier with every passing second.
’And how are we supposed to get out of this predicament? No... The real question is... Can we even get out of this alive?’
