- Chapter 1: A Dream That Wouldn’t Let Go
Eira slowly walked toward Leon and the B-Class beast, both lying motionless on the ground like corpses.
’I must have hit the jackpot to get my hands on someone like you,’ Eira thought as she gazed at Leon. "I only accompanied the team because I intended to plunder the Delvan Tower of all its valuable treasures and weapons. That way, fewer people would come here in the future. And no one would stumble upon the real thing hidden within this place by accident." She whispered, her expression becoming serious. "But now... Now I don’t have to wait anymore. I have found what I have been looking for years. A body capable of regeneration. I can finally form a bond with the demon. Using your body as the vessel, of course. You can only blame yourself for dying like this."
Eira burst into laughter. She placed one foot on the monster’s chest.
Then...
Flick!
Three silver needles shot downward and pierced deep into the beast’s body. Almost instantly, its flesh began to decay. Its skin melted away. Its muscles dissolved. Bone and flesh rapidly broke down until the entire creature was reduced to a disgusting puddle of green blood and liquefied flesh.
Eira calmly took out a rope and carefully tied Leon up. "This rope is actually a high-grade artifact. Even S-Class warriors wouldn’t be able to break free from it."
Once Leon was securely bound, Eira grabbed the end of the rope and began dragging him along.
As she moved forward, more monsters charged toward her from different corners. But every one of them met the same face.
The face of death.
After wiping out six or seven more hordes of monsters, Eira finally reached the opposite side of the island. The moment she arrived, a gate identical to the previous one materialized before her.
Without hesitation, Eira stepped through while dragging Leon behind her.
The scenery changed instantly.
When she emerged on the other side, she found herself in a mountainous region filled with jagged cliffs and rocky terrain.
She had barely taken a few steps when two monsters suddenly lunged at her from opposite directions.
Eira didn’t even bother to defend herself.
Just as the beasts’ claws were about to strike her, they abruptly froze midair. The next moment, both monsters let out agonized howls... Their claws began melting before their eyes as though they had touched a powerful corrosive substance.
Eira sneered. "Brainless as always."
If anyone looked closer, they would have noticed a faint green layer surrounding her body like a translucent veil. It was clearly another one of her poison spells. Before the two monsters could react, Eira shot forward.
Thud!
Thud!
Her fists slammed into their stomachs. Bloody holes instantly appeared in their bodies. A thick green pus-like substance dripped from the wounds.
The monsters collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony. Eira didn’t spare them another glance. Grabbing the rope tied around Leon, she continued walking toward a specific destination.
Strangely, the farther she traveled in that direction, the fewer monster attacks she encountered. The endless ambushes gradually disappeared. It was as if the monsters instinctively feared something that existed ahead. Something so terrifying that even they dared not approach it.
Strangely, Eira didn’t look surprised at all. She continued walking without stopping.
Nearly thirty minutes later, she finally came to a halt before a small foothill. Without hesitation, she took out a crimson crystal from a pouch in her waist. There was a hole in the rocky hillside.
Eira pressed the crystal into it. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
The moment she did, the ground began to tremble.
Rumble!
The entire hill shook violently. Dust and small pebbles rained down.
Then, with a deafening grinding sound, the stone wall before her slowly split apart from the center.
A hidden entrance revealed itself. A faint smile appeared on Eira’s face as she dragged Leon inside.
Beyond the entrance lay a long stone staircase descending deep underground.
The moment she stepped onto the first stair, the torch closest to her burst into flame. As she continued downward, more torches ignited one after another.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
The flickering flames illuminated the passageway, casting dancing shadows across the walls.
The staircase seemed endless.
Eira continued descending deeper and deeper beneath the hill, dragging Leon behind her all the while.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she reached the deepest part of the underground chamber.
It was eerily empty. At least, it appeared that way at first glance. Aside from the cold stone walls and flickering torchlight, only three enormous statues stood within the vast space.
The first statue was nearly three meters tall.
Its body was incredibly bulky, though not because of powerful muscles. Instead, a massive belly protruded from its frame, giving it an oddly grotesque appearance.
A single eye rested in the center of its forehead where a normal pair should have been.
It possessed neither fangs nor claws. In fact, its hands looked surprisingly human, complete with thick fingers. Yet any sense of familiarity ended there.
Two enormous buffalo-like horns curved outward from the sides of its head, making it look both savage and imposing.
Resting casually upon one shoulder was a gigantic club covered in razor-sharp spikes.
Even as a mere statue, it radiated an oppressive aura, as though it could come to life and bring destruction at any moment. If one looked closely, countless cracks could be seen running across its surface. It was as though the stone shell had weathered the passage of countless years and could crumble apart at any moment.
The other two statues stood on either side of the chamber. Both resembled wolves. Yet they were nothing like ordinary wolves.
Their bodies were enormous, each one larger than an elephant.
Eira looked at the bulky cyclopean figure in the center. She released the rope tied around Leon. Then she slowly walked toward the statue.
A trace of excitement flashed through her eyes. She dropped to her knees. "It’s time for you to wake up."
