Chapter 68: The Confused Angela

After a moment of dizziness, William regained his consciousness.

Perhaps because he had experienced spatial teleportation before, and his body had become more accustomed to it, or maybe because this teleportation covered a shorter distance, William felt much better this time.

Opening his eyes, he immediately surveyed his surroundings.

Consistent with the style outside the mansion, the walls were a mix of black and grey, and the floor was covered with dust. The only notable feature was a platform in front of him, engraved with special patterns.

Phew~ He was glad he didn’t remember it wrong and didn’t teleport to the wrong place.

Looking at the familiar surroundings, William breathed a sigh of relief.

This room wasn’t dangerous, in a sense, but he wondered if the situation here was still the same as in the game.

Rubbing his wrists, William walked straight to the platform in the center of the room.

The room, or rather the entire mansion’s uniqueness, lay upon the platform in front of him.

If one observed carefully, they would notice that the special patterns engraved on the platform were actually magical runes, extending from the altar to the ground, serving an unknown purpose.

A blood-red heart!

It was flawless like a gemstone, resembling an artifact crafted by a skilled artisan, shimmering with a jewel-like bloody glow.

It also constantly emitted a strong scent of blood, with the magical rune array on the platform designed to connect to this heart.

Yet, William’s gaze didn’t linger on the heart. Instead, he looked above it.

Yes, there was something—or rather, a creature—lying on top of the heart. Incorrect, it should be described as a monster.

A small, snowy white bat lay atop the heart, deeply asleep, with a bubble the size of its body hanging from its tiny nose, bobbing up and down with each breath.

Most of the energy emanating from the heart seemed to be absorbed by this bat.

William took a deep breath and carefully reached out to the white bat, intending to awaken it from its slumber.

He had to be careful, given the significant reputation of the creature before him.

This white bat was the only entity within “Azrael’s Dungeon of Death” that possessed normal intelligence and could communicate.

From the perspective of past players, upon entering the room, one would immediately see this sleeping white bat with a red [Extremely Dangerous] warning above its head, highlighting its status as a BOSS.

But now, to William, this white bat seemed too cute.

Unlike its dirty, dark counterparts, its snow-white fur revealed pink little ears and paws.

Cuddled up into a ball, sweetly sleeping on the heart, occasionally twitching its little ears.

If Nichole were here, she would have probably rushed to hug and pet it endlessly.

The bubble on its nose burst, and a pair of confused eyes opened, staring blankly at William, who was holding its tiny legs and hanging it upside down.

William felt a bit awkward, given the unflattering position of holding this dignitary, and quickly placed it respectfully back on its red “bed” with both hands.

The little bat’s beady eyes turned towards William, who seemed to read in its baffled gaze:

“Who am I, where am I, and what am I doing?”

“Esteemed Lady Angela, I apologize for waking you from your dream.”

William spoke respectfully to the bat lying on the heart, even performing a noble bow.

“Oh.”

Angela was clearly still disoriented, given the dullness of the tomb. Since her awakening and inheritance of memory, she hadn’t encountered anyone to communicate with, her only joy being to sleep on this heart day in and day out. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

The headless one always drew his sword at the sight of her, the tomb’s master stayed in the Lich Tower without coming out, and there was no need to mention the other riff-raff.

It took a while for Angela, who learned human language from her inherited memories, to realize the person before her was not one of the tomb’s undead, but rather resembled the food from her memories.

From outside?

The still-somewhat-sleepy Angela suddenly became alert, her eyes wide open as she clumsily spoke in human language:

“Are you a human? From outside the tomb?”

Seeing Angela trying to prop herself up with her little paws, William felt somewhat relieved.

No violence, communication is possible!

He decided to erase from memory the ungraceful actions just now, and told Angela:

“Yes, I’ve come from outside this tomb. I never expected to meet the esteemed Lady Angela here.”

“Oh, oh.”

Angela suddenly sensed something amiss and questioned:

“How do you know my name? I never told anyone the name I chose for myself. Don’t try to deceive me; I’m very smart!”

Hearing this, William’s expression became solemn, his gaze filled with reverence and a hint of longing:

“Because, upon entering the tomb, I received a divine oracle from Lord Vlad, instructing me to lead you out of this cage!”
