The Astral Emporium was a hive of frantic activity.
Dante stood on the third-floor balcony of the VIP suite and looked down at the massive auction hall below.
The velvet seats were perfectly aligned. The polished marble stage gleamed under the magical spotlights.
Nyx was busy calibrating the automated proxy-bidding software in a darkened side-booth.
Garrick and Casanova were awkwardly attempting to coordinate the NPC security guards at the main entrance.
The server was currently tearing itself apart trying to liquidate assets for the auction tomorrow at noon. But inside the Emporium, the atmosphere was focused and tense.
Dante turned away from the glass window.
He found Lila standing in the corner of the suite.
She was nervously twisting the heavy glowing [Heart of the Ignis] chest piece she hadn’t yet equipped.
The blue-haired Astral Arcanist kept glancing toward the stairs to make sure Sera was still busy down on the main floor.
"Dante," Lila whispered, her voice barely carrying over the ambient hum of the magical infrastructure of the building. "Can I talk to you for a second?"
Dante stepped away from the balcony and moved closer to her. "What is it? Did the gravity magic fry your mana pool again?"
"No," Lila said and shook her head quickly.
She looked down at the plush carpet and clearly struggled with what she was about to say.
"It is about Sera."
The eyes of Dante narrowed slightly. He looked toward the staircase.
Seraphina was a brilliant and incredibly driven studio head.
She had seamlessly managed a billion-credit transaction and orchestrated a global advertising campaign without breaking a sweat.
"What about her?" Dante asked.
"You know we run a studio," Lila started, her voice tight.
"But Astral Vanguard is not just a group of friends trying to make money playing a game. The family of Sera... they are old money on Veridia. A massive corporate tech dynasty."
"They funded the initial startup costs for the studio, but they did not do it out of support. They did it as a test."
Dante crossed his arms. Corporate politics back on Veridia were notoriously brutal. "A test for what?"
"To see if she could handle the family business," Lila explained. Her blue eyes were wide with genuine distress.
"They gave her an ultimatum before the Zenith Protocol launched. She has exactly two years to turn the studio into a thirty-billion-credit empire. If she fails, they cut her off completely."
"Thirty billion is a steep threshold," Dante noted and ran the math in his head. "But with the loot I just gave her to sell, and the billion she already has, she is well on her way."
"That is not the problem, Dante," Lila hissed and stepped closer.
"If she fails, she does not just lose the studio. The family arranged a contingency plan. To secure a merger with a rival tech conglomerate, they drafted a legally binding corporate marriage contract."
Dante went perfectly still.
He didn’t need to hear the rest of the sentence.
The pieces instantly snapped together in his hyper-optimized analytical mind.
He thought about the massive arrogant Guild Master who had spent millions of real-world credits trying to hunt him down.
The man whose family controlled the hardware manufacturing sector that produced the high-end VR capsules, while the family of Sera likely owned the software distribution side.
"The heir to the rival tech conglomerate," Dante said. His voice dropped to a terrifyingly cold and absolute flatline. "It is Silas."
Lila nodded, and tears actually formed in her eyes.
"Yes. The family of Silas owns the hardware monopoly. The marriage secures the empire. If Sera does not hit thirty billion credits, her family forces her to marry the guy who murdered you."
Dante stared at the wall of the VIP suite.
The anger he had felt when he woke up from the dream about his father completely paled in comparison to the sheer unfiltered fury currently igniting in his chest.
Silas wasn’t just a traitor in a game. He wasn’t just a corporate suit trying to monopolize a digital economy.
He was actively holding the entire real-world future of Sera hostage.
Sera didn’t know Dante was Vanguard.
She didn’t know that the quiet unassuming neighbor she had invited to the pub was the man Silas had betrayed and murdered in Aethelgard.
She was just a brilliant hardworking studio head desperately trying to buy her own freedom from a corporate nightmare.
And she was relying entirely on the loot of Dante to do it.
"She did not want to tell you," Lila whispered and wiped her eyes.
"She did not want you to think she was just using you for your gear to save herself. She genuinely respects you, Dante."
"But I could not let you sell that Guild Token tomorrow without knowing the truth. Silas is going to be bidding on it."
Dante turned away from the wall. He placed his dark purple gauntlet gently on the shoulder of Lila.
"You did the right thing," Dante said softly.
He looked back out the window at the empty auction stage.
The resolve to destroy Vanguard’s Legacy wasn’t just about revenge anymore.
It wasn’t just about stopping the Orthodox successors from purging the server like they had in the First Cycle.
It was absolute. It was personal.
He wasn’t going to just humiliate Silas. He was going to utterly annihilate his real-world financial standing.
He was going to ensure Vanguard’s Legacy never secured a single high-tier resource node, never claimed a major boss kill, and never established a stable economy.
He was going to make Silas so incredibly and irrecoverably bankrupt that his own family would cancel the corporate merger.
"Sera is going to get her thirty billion," Dante said quietly. His voice was harder than diamond. "And she is going to get it by bleeding him dry."

The next day at noon, the heavy oak doors of the Astral Emporium swung open.
The massive auction hall flooded with the absolute elite of the Overture server.
The players entering weren’t the disorganized chaotic masses of the frontier towns. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
These were the top-tier combatants, the guild officers, and the wealthy financiers of the Zenith Protocol.
Dante sat comfortably in the VIP suite on the third floor and looked down through the flawless soundproof glass window.
"The guest list is incredibly dense," Nyx noted. She stood next to Dante and her datapad actively scanned the crowd.
"Silas just walked in with his Vanguard’s Legacy officers. Valerius is taking the entire front row for the Legion of Blades. And I am seeing completely new guild tags."
Dante looked down.
Silas marched down the center aisle. He wore his pristine Silver-grade armor, and his face was a tight mask of arrogant determination.
He was flanked by several heavy Enforcers whose eyes scanned the room aggressively.
Valerius, the Warlord of the Legion of Blades, sat rigidly in the front row.
His silver armor was repaired from the disaster in the Wyrm-Sealed Abyss, but his posture was stiff and completely lacked his usual domineering confidence.
"Who are the new players?" Dante asked and pointed to a massive towering man wielding a golden warhammer.
"That is Leonidas," Nyx replied and tapped her screen.
"Guild Master of the Apex Coalition. He is the one who organized the three-army alliance that you completely routed in the Sky Demon Forest. He is furious, and he is heavily funded by the industrial sector of Oakhaven."
"And the guy in the red robes?" Dante gestured to a player sitting in the back corner surrounded by heavily armed rogues.
"Xerxes," Nyx identified him immediately.
"Leader of the Blood Throne. They operate out of the southern deserts. He is currently sitting on the largest pile of liquid currency in the Veridian Alliance."
"It is a shark tank," Casanova commented from the sofa and sipped a digital goblet of wine. "And we are dropping chunks of raw meat into the water."
Sera stepped out onto the marble stage below.
She wore a stunning formal black merchant gown heavily accented with glowing gold thread.
She looked completely professional and entirely unbothered by the fact that she was currently standing in front of the most lethal powerful players on the server.
"Welcome, Outworlders, to the Astral Emporium," the voice of Sera echoed flawlessly across the silent hall. It was amplified by the internal acoustic systems of the building.
"Today, we are bypassing the slow tedious grind of the beginner zones. We are offering you the tools to secure your empires. We are offering you power."
The crowd murmured. The tension in the room was palpable.
The bidding war was about to begin.
