Dante grabbed his datapad from the kitchen island.
He didn’t immediately answer Sera’s panicked tone. He walked over to the coffee maker, his mind still reeling from the frost forming on his own skin just moments ago in the shower.
He grabbed a ceramic mug from the rack, intending to pour himself a cup.
The moment his fingers closed around the handle, the mug violently shattered.
It didn’t drop. It didn’t slip. The ceramic simply exploded into dozens of sharp fragments under his grip.
Dante stared at the pieces of the mug scattered across the sleek marble countertop.
He hadn’t squeezed it hard. He had just picked it up.
His base Strength stat in Overture had just shattered the five-thousand mark. The neurological bleed-over wasn’t just giving him minor frost tricks; it was actively rewriting his real-world muscular density to match his digital avatar.
"Dante?" Sera’s voice filtered through the datapad’s speaker, pulling him back from the realization. "Are you there?"
"I’m here," Dante said, carefully setting the datapad down on the counter, making absolutely sure he didn’t accidentally crush the expensive piece of hardware. "What’s the problem?"
"We held a studio meeting," Sera explained, her voice entirely professional but laced with frustration. "Lila, Nyx, Mei, Garrick, and I are all currently sitting in a private lobby in Aethelgardia. We’re trying to secure a physical location for the Astral Emporium."
"I thought you already bought the building in the plaza," Dante said.
"I bought the digital rights to operate a commercial hub on that specific plot of land," Sera corrected, the annoyance evident in her tone.
"That’s how the beginner zones work. You buy the digital permit, and the system automatically generates a storefront. But the Capital operates on a completely different economic engine. Aethelgardia requires physical property deeds authorized directly by the City Lord."
"So go buy a deed," Dante suggested, leaning against the counter.
"We can’t," Nyx’s voice chimed in from the background of the call. "The real estate market in the Capital is entirely monopolized by the NPC nobility.
The system restricts Outworlders from purchasing prime commercial property during the first month of the cycle to prevent rapid inflation.
The only properties currently available to players are absolute garbage ruined shacks in the outer slums or empty plots in the dangerous border districts."
"If we set up the Emporium in the slums, nobody from the top-tier guilds will come to our auctions," Sera sighed.
"The prestige factor is completely gone. Silas will just set up his own auction house in a better location the second the system restrictions lift, and he’ll steal all our clientele."
Dante listened to the problem. It was a classic Zenith Protocol bottleneck. The system actively punished early progression by restricting economic infrastructure until the rest of the server caught up. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"We need a building in the central plaza," Sera stated firmly. "It’s the only way to establish dominance over the market immediately. But the NPC merchants refuse to sell, and the City Lord’s administrative clerks laughed at my bribe."
Dante looked at the scattered pieces of the coffee mug.
"The clerks laughed at you," Dante repeated.
"They said Outworlders aren’t authorized to hold property titles in the inner sanctum yet," Lila added, sounding completely defeated. "They basically told us to go play in the dirt until the system updates."
Dante smiled.
"Give me ten minutes," Dante told Sera. "I’ll get you a building."
He didn’t wait for her to ask how. He hung up the call.
He didn’t bother trying to clean up the broken mug. He needed to get back into the game.
The physical bleed-over was terrifying, but it also confirmed that the Zenith Protocol was fundamentally changing reality.
If the game was bleeding into the real world, then controlling the game meant controlling everything.
He walked back into the bedroom, climbed into the VR capsule, and locked the heavy plexiglass lid.
He pulled the neural-link cables down.
"Initiate synchronization," Dante ordered.
The pristine white walls of his penthouse vanished.
Dante materialized in the center of Aethelgardia’s main resurrection plaza.
He didn’t check his stats or organize his inventory. He immediately activated [Meteor Stride].
Because of the [Chrono-Shift] talent, the Zenith-tier teleport was instant and completely free. He vanished from the plaza in a blinding flash of white light, leaving a thick trail of superheated plasma cutting across the polished white marble.
He reappeared directly at the base of the massive, glowing golden gates of the Royal Palace.
The heavily armored paladin guards didn’t even have time to cross their halberds. Dante’s [Zenith Epaulet] and his massive, overwhelming cosmic weight immediately forced their dynamic system to part the way.
Dante didn’t slow down. He marched through the massive double doors, striding aggressively down the long red carpet of the grand hall.
The City Lord of Aethelgardia was sitting on his massive, diamond-carved throne, discussing administrative matters with a group of high-ranking NPC clerks.
The City Lord looked up as Dante approached, his glowing artificial eyes widening slightly.
"Champion," the City Lord boomed, standing up from his throne. "You return from the Glacial Wastes.
The system informs me you have successfully purged the Crimson Spire and neutralized the artificial Calamity. Your swiftness is... unprecedented."
"I had help," Dante said smoothly, walking right up to the base of the throne. He completely ignored the indignant glares of the NPC clerks who were angry about the interruption.
"The Frost Sovereign’s intervention was noted," the City Lord agreed, nodding his heavy head. "Nevertheless, you have secured the safety of the Capital. The threat of Vane’s abominations has been removed."
The City Lord raised his hand.
[System Notification: SSS-Rank Investigation Quest Completed.]
[Processing Rewards...]
Dante didn’t even look at the system prompt. He didn’t care about the gold or the experience.
"Before I left for the Wyrm-Sealed Abyss," Dante said, projecting his voice clearly across the grand hall, "you made me a promise."
The City Lord paused, lowering his hand. The NPC’s dynamic system quickly accessed the specific dialogue logs from their previous interaction.
"I promised to grant you unrestricted access to the eastern gates, leading to the Path of Gods and Demons," the City Lord confirmed. "That authorization has already been processed."
"You promised something else," Dante corrected him.
He didn’t draw [Voidsever]. He didn’t threaten the NPC. He just stood his ground, radiating the absolute, crushing cosmic authority of a player who had just executed a Super-Divine beast and possessed the [Frost-God Constitution].
"You said," Dante quoted the exact dialogue line, "I will fulfill any one request within my administrative authority."
The NPC clerks standing near the throne murmured nervously among themselves. They recognized the phrasing. A blank check from the City Lord was functionally an exploit.
The City Lord didn’t try to backtrack. The system’s rules regarding promised rewards were absolute.
"I did," the City Lord nodded slowly. "Name your request, Champion. Weapons? Artifacts? An audience with the Grand Sovereign?"
"I want real estate," Dante said flatly.
The City Lord blinked. The system was visibly confused. "Real estate?"
"There is a massive, multi-story building located directly in the center of the main commercial plaza," Dante specified.
"It faces the angel statue. I want the physical property deed, fully authorized and legally binding, transferred immediately to an Outworlder named Seraphina."
The head NPC clerk, a thin man in pristine blue robes, immediately stepped forward, waving his hands frantically.
"My Lord, that is impossible!" the clerk protested. "System protocols explicitly forbid the transfer of inner-sanctum commercial properties to Outworlders during this phase of the cycle! It will completely destabilize the localized economy! We just rejected a petition from that exact Outworlder an hour ago!"
The City Lord looked at the clerk, then looked back at Dante.
"The clerk speaks the truth, Champion," the City Lord said, sounding genuinely apologetic. "The administrative locks on those properties are hard-coded to prevent rapid inflation. I cannot simply hand over the deed."
Dante didn’t break eye contact with the City Lord.
"You are the highest administrative authority in the Veridian Alliance," Dante stated, his voice completely calm. "Are you telling me you don’t have the override codes for a building?"
"I have the codes," the City Lord admitted. "But overriding a hard-coded economic lock requires a massive expenditure of my own cosmic authority. It is highly irregular."
"I executed a Celestial Beast in your basement," Dante reminded him. "I killed a Super-Divine anomaly in the frozen wastes. I saved this city twice today. Are you going to deny my one request over a zoning ordinance?"
The grand hall fell completely silent.
The City Lord stared at Dante. The system was actively calculating the value of the request against the massive, overwhelming systemic contributions Dante had made. The math resolved instantly.
The City Lord raised his hand, pointing a finger directly at the protesting head clerk.
"Draft the deed," the City Lord commanded.
"But My Lord....!" the clerk tried to argue.
"Draft the deed immediately!" the City Lord roared, his voice shaking the stained glass windows of the throne room.
"The Champion of Aethelgardia requires a building! Ensure it is fully authorized, completely tax-exempt for three years, and transferred to the Outworlder Seraphina without delay!"
The clerk went pale, bowing frantically before scrambling out of the hall to process the paperwork.
Dante smiled. "I appreciate the tax exemption. Nice touch."
"You have earned it, Champion," the City Lord said, his majestic tone returning. "The deed will be delivered to your associate within the hour. Now, proceed to the eastern gates. Your true path lies beyond the walls."
Dante turned around and walked out of the throne room. He had secured his auction house.
He opened his private party interface.
[Dan: Check your inventory, Sera. You should be receiving a very special piece of mail from the City Lord’s office shortly.]
[Sera: Dante, what did you do?]
[Dan: I expedited a bureaucratic bottleneck. You own the building now. Get the auction set up. I’m heading to the eastern gates.]
Dante closed the interface. He didn’t wait for her shocked reply.
He navigated the pristine white streets of Aethelgardia, heading directly for the massive, heavily fortified eastern gates.
He was finally going to get his Class Advancement, and he fully intended to find something completely broken.
