Liam was genuinely taken aback when the assassin’s blade cut his hand. He stared at the wound as the skin around it turned purple and the colour spread across his palm.

He felt a small worry rise in his chest, but not out of fear. If things got bad, he could always cut the hand off and grow a new one.

But he didn’t need to, as the molecular nanites inside him reacted instantly and the strange burn under his skin faded as they went to work.

He wasn’t sure what they did—whether they ate the poison, pushed it out, or changed it into something harmless—but whatever it was, the spreading purple stopped almost at once.

The assassin didn’t know that, of course.

Liam lowered his hand and turned toward the assassin.

The assassin’s face was twisted in confusion and fear. He stared at Liam’s clean skin like he was looking at a nightmare.

"Now," Liam smiled, as he asked softly, "who sent you?"

The assassin blinked, with a horrified look on his face. He straightened his back, forced his breath steady, and regained his cold expression.

"I have no idea," he answered. "We don’t get names. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you."

"Good," Liam nodded. "That means you will definitely tell me."

The assassin frowned. "You think—"

The assassin’s eyes barely widened before a fist crashed into his face. His head snapped to the side. Liam appeared right in front of him, hand wrapped around his throat.

The assassin gagged. He didn’t even get a chance to draw a breath before Liam forced his jaw open with a sharp motion. His finger hooked around the back of the assassin’s teeth and yanked something out.

A small black pill bounced across the wooden floor.

The assassin’s eyes widened in shock.

His poison pill... gone.

"You won’t be killing yourself tonight," Liam said simply.

He dragged the assassin by the throat, slammed him against the wall, and the torture began.

Ten minutes later, the room was silent again.

The assassin’s body lay motionless on the floor. His eyes were open but empty. His limbs were twisted at angles that said he died with pain still on his face.

Liam stood beside him, brushing his sleeve lightly. His expression was calm, as if he had finished dealing with a minor chore instead of an assassination attempt.

He stepped around the body and left the room without looking back.

He walked down the stairs and out of the inn with relaxed steps, blending into the small group of people heading toward the main street. The night breeze brushed past him, carrying faint smells of spices and smoke.

He walked for several minutes, passing shops and closed stalls, until he stopped in front of a certain building.

A three-story restaurant stood before him. Bright lanterns hung outside the entrance. Unlike other restaurant, the restaurant was already closed and was no longer accepting customers.

The normal citizens would simply find another restaurant to eat but Liam won’t. And the reason’s because this is the headquarter of the Devouring Petal Pavilion in Blackstone City. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

He stepped forward and pushed the door open.

The moment he entered, the voices lowered themselves and every eyes turned to him, and locked down on him.

Liam smiled politely at them as he moved further inside. He could feel their measuring gazes but he couldn’t care less.

He walked to a corner table and took a seat. When a waitress approached, she bowed slightly.

"What would you like, sir?"

"Everything you think is good," Liam said.

She nodded and hurried off.

The room slowly regained motion, but the glances never stopped. Liam could feel every stare. He knew most of them didn’t look out of curiosity. They were trying to gauge him, curious to find out how strong he was.

He couldn’t help but wonder if they are aware that one of their comrades is dead in a random inn, after he tried to kill him.

Liam tapped his finger lightly on the table, amused.

A few minutes later, the waitress returned with several bowls stacked on a large tray. She placed the food in front of him one by one.

He could smell the spices. The broth was thick, the meat cooked well. The dishes looked normal. But he also picked up a strange smell fused with the aroma coming from the soup, and it told him there was something extra inside.

Poison. As expected of them, He smiled, as he picked up the chopsticks and began to eat.

The food was good. Very good. He cleared one bowl after another. He ate like he hadn’t eaten in days and he finished everything in less than a minute.

The waitress stared at the empty dishes, frozen. She didn’t know whether to step back or run.

Liam leaned back, wiped his mouth calmly, and set the chopsticks down.

"Delicious," he said. "Compliments to your chef."

Silence enveloped the restaurant and every assassin in the room stiffened.

"Alright," Liam said, raising his voice a little. "Stop wasting my time. All of you. Come at me or I’ll come for you."

The restaurant went silent again.

Then—

A man shot from the left side of the room, moving fast. His feet barely touched the ground as he sprang toward Liam, blade already drawn.

He was quick, silent and equally deadly. His dagger aimed straight for Liam’s head.

But the moment the blade was a finger away from Liam’s skin—it stopped, frozen mid-air.

The assassin’s eyes widened in panic. He tried to push. He tried to pull. The dagger didn’t move. It was as if he was stabbing a wall of steel.

Liam turned his head slightly and looked at him, and smirked.

Then he unsheathed his reforged sword with a quick, simple motion.

A clean slash swept through the air.

The assassin didn’t even scream. His body separated in one smooth line and fell in two pieces at Liam’s feet.

Warm blood hit the wooden floor in thin splatters.

The silence didn’t last as the next moment, half the restaurant moved at once, as dozens of assassins leaped toward him from every direction—ceiling beams, stairs, shadows, back rooms, all using different kinds of weapons and killing arts.

Liam smiled, as he stepped forward into the wave of bodies. He plans to wipe them all tonight.
