Kai stood at the end of the aisle, his heart pounding so loudly in his chest he could barely hear the gentle notes of the piano or the strings of sound from the violin. His fingers twitched slightly at his sides, but he kept them steady. He wore a black tailored suit with a white rose brooch perched at the lapel.

The heavy doors opened, and for a moment, the world just... stopped.

There she stood—his bride. His Amelia. His butterfly.

He forgot how to breathe.

She stepped into view like something from a dream, the sunlight pouring through the stained-glass windows behind her, framing her figure like a painting. She was dressed in a white gown that made her ethereal—off-the-shoulder and sculpted around her in a way that was both soft and powerful, much like her. The puffed sleeves were dramatic, almost regal. Delicate patterns etched into the fabric of the dress shimmered subtly as she moved, like hidden constellations only he was allowed to see.

The skirt billowed around her, layers of tulle trailing behind like mist. In her hands was a bouquet of white roses. She walked slowly, each step unhurried, with Ray beside her. She didn’t just look like a bride, she looked like a promise he had never dared to believe could be his.

She was radiant, and breathtakingly real.

His throat tightened.

By the time she reached him, his hand was already outstretched, like muscle memory guiding him before thought could catch up. Her hand slipped into his, warm and trembling slightly, and he held it like it was the most fragile thing in the world. Ray, with a quiet smile, went to the side.

She looked up at him.

"I thought I’d faint," she whispered under her breath.

Kai’s lips curved, voice just as low. "If you do, I’m catching you. That’s part of the vows, right?"

She let out a small, nervous laugh. It was the most beautiful sound he’d heard all day.

They turned to face the officiant, fingers still intertwined, not even bothering to hide the way they clung to each other.

As the words began—"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..."—Kai didn’t hear much.

All he saw was Amelia.

All he could feel was the woman beside him.

The one he chose to devote his entire life to and the one he wasn’t sure he could ever live without.

".....If anyone has a reason this should not take place, speak now or forever hold your peace."

There was total silence.

"Very well, let’s begin." The officiant cleared his throat and continued. "The two of you have chosen to write your own vows today, which is a beautiful testament to your love and your commitment to one another. Your vows are a personal expression of your feelings for each other and rich with meaning and history. It is my privilege and honor to witness you pledge your love in your own words."

Kai turned to her again, his eyes filled with overwhelming love that threatened to swallow her alive. He reached up slowly and, with both hands, lifted her veil. The fabric whispered back, falling behind her softly, and his breath hitched.

Her ruby eyes shimmered, rimmed with tears, filled with excitement. Her lips trembled faintly, but they were parted in a warm smile.

Kai exhaled like he’d been holding his breath for years.

"You’re real," he murmured, only for her.

And then he spoke his vows.

"I loved you before I even understood what love was, before I even realized I could feel.

It terrified me then and it still terrifies me now because you are the only one in this world that makes me feel helpless and powerless. But even as it made me feel this way, just the thought of having you by my side every waking moment makes me want to be more than I already am. It pushes me to be better for you and the future we have ahead of us.

I can’t promise you I’ll always know how to love the right way. I’m still learning.

But I swear to you—I will never stop trying.

I will never stop choosing you.

Even on the hard days. Even when we fight. Even when I don’t deserve you.

You are my clarity in chaos, my home in the wreckage.

You are everything I thought I wasn’t allowed to have...

And everything I’ll protect, until my last breath."

Amelia blinked up at him, passion filling her voice.

"When my grandfather told me I was going to be engaged to you, a part of me was angry that I did not get the freedom I truly wished for. But now, looking back, I am truly grateful he made that decision.

You scared me too, Kai.

Because I’ve always been good at hiding behind walls, and somehow, you saw through every one.

You pulled me out of the cold with your warmth... and sometimes, with your fire.

I’ve seen the darkness in you. I’ve seen the cracks you try to hide, you also saw mine.

And still, especially then, I loved you, and you loved me more deeply than I expected anyone to. You believed in me when I thought no one ever would.

I vow to remind you that you are not broken. That you are worthy. That you are more than the scars you carry.

I will hold your hand when you’re scared.

I will speak for you when your voice shakes.

I will love you fiercely, even on the days you don’t love yourself.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife..." The officiant’s lips curved up into a smile. "Kai, you may kiss your bride."

Kai didn’t hesitate.
