A week passed, and the birthday banquet was drawing closer. Amelia had already pretty much adapted to this world, and while things still fascinated her, it wasn't as novel as it had once been.
Amelia had a problem: getting her grandfather a birthday gift. Her grandfather was so wealthy that there was almost nothing he lacked, thus anything to be given had to be impactful, something he would cherish. But the problem was, what was that thing? What could she give him that he would cherish so much and wouldn't just end up among his other pile of gifts?
She had thought of getting him an expensive painting or a piece that represented longevity, but when she looked at the money in her account, she was basically poor.
The only other option was to go giftless or make the gift herself.
Make it herself...
She could do that. Besides, as someone who was once a noble lady, from childhood she had been taught the proper education required of a noblewoman, spanning from etiquette and dance to embroidery, and she was taught by the best of the best.
To show her love for Aldrich, when they had just gotten married, she had embroidered and embroidered, despite her fingers being filled with numerous pricks from the needles, the blood it drew, and the time it took. But she didn't care, as long as she could make Aldrich happy, as long as she could show her love for him.
When she had given him what she had embroidered, her eyes shining, expecting him to praise her, she had instead seen his face curl in disgust as he coldly told her never to make such a thing again. She had been flabbergasted. Hadn't her teacher told her that it was one of the ways to a man's heart? So why did he seem to hate her instead?
Amelia shook her head, trying to get rid of that memory.
She had a new life now, so she shouldn't think so much about the past.
Amelia dressed up and left her room, wanting to get the materials for the embroidery. For the past week after the last incident, her life had been surprisingly peaceful. No one had come to disturb her, and she ignored them.
And she so hoped that it would remain like this for a long time. However, the heavens were about to disappoint her.
"Finally, you came out after cooping yourself in that room all week," Amelia heard a scolding voice say.
Amelia turned to where the voice came from and groaned internally. It was her father, and beside him was a beautiful woman with cascading black hair and blue eyes, Eve.
She had forgotten that Eve had come back two days ago from her vacation in Country F. A maid had informed her, but she had just shrugged it off and continued playing games on her phone.
"Sorry, but I've been busy."
"Busy with what? Being a disappointment?" Mason Cosgrove asked with a sneer.
Eve grabbed Mason's hand and gently rubbed it, as if placating him. "Please don't get angry at Amelia. I know she still resents me for everything, and I understand. But I will try my best to show her that despite everything, she is still like a daughter to me."
Sensing the incoming headache, Amelia very much chose to avoid it, so she quickly spoke, not even giving her father a chance to scold her.
"I've been quite busy thinking of what to gift Grandfather. I wish to go and get Grandfather's birthday gift, and I do not want to waste any more time lingering around. When I come back home..." She turned and looked at Eve with a smile. "...I will properly greet her."
Mason Cosgrove, hearing that she was going to look for a gift for his father, no longer felt angry. His father was an extremely strict man, and he feared him. However, his father, who rarely showed him an iota of love, seemed to have some fondness for Amelia and Ray.
He did not want to have to endure his father's anger or scorn if, peradventure, one of them failed to bring a befitting gift.
"Very well then. Do you have sufficient money with you?" Mason Cosgrove asked.
"No," Amelia quickly replied.
While she had enough money to buy the embroidery materials, she was still quite poor, and she would need a lot of money, especially since she had been considering moving out of the Cosgrove family home for her peace of mind and sanity.
"Alright, I'll send some money to you shortly. Ensure you get something nice for your grandfather."
"Yes, Father," Amelia said and began to leave when she felt her phone vibrate. She removed it from her pocket and saw that her father had transferred 200 thousand dollars to her.
Well, that's quite a lot of money, she thought, but it's just sufficient for me to leave this godforsaken household.
