Not everyone knew about the existence of household gods.

Song Jiayan’s face turned red again after Xu Jiali’s comment.

Song Jiayan still felt a little nervous, trailing behind Wen Ying and Xu Jiali.

Little White was no longer nestled in Doctor Wen’s arms. Instead, it was darting back and forth between the trees, looking completely at ease.

But it always stayed within their line of sight.

Suddenly, a dense rustling sound reached their ears from one side of the woods.

It sounded as if a large group of animals was passing through.

"Doctor Wen..."

"I hear it. Don’t be afraid."

Xu Jiali was also getting flustered. This commotion didn’t sound like something one or even a few animals could make.

Xu Jiali couldn’t help but look at Little White. Little White shot up a tall tree and disappeared from sight in a few moments.

A short while later, the RUSTLING grew even louder, now accompanied by frantic SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK sounds.

"Doctor Wen, they’re not fighting, are they?"

Song Jiayan’s face was a little pale.

"No, no. At most, it’s a lesson being taught," Xu Jiali said with a smile.

She seemed to be getting more and more used to the situation with Little White.

Then, there was a moment of silence.

Wen Ying walked toward the source of the sound. Xu Jiali followed, and Song Jiayan had no choice but to follow as well.

They were surrounded by trees of varying heights, many of which Song Jiayan didn’t recognize. Lost in his worried thoughts, he would jump in fright whenever a branch brushed against him.

But right now, his mind clearly wasn’t on the trees.

"It’s over, it’s over! We’re surrounded!" Song Jiayan’s voice was on the verge of tears, but he didn’t actually cry.

Hearing Song Jiayan, Xu Jiali looked around. Indeed, they were surrounded!

All around them was a dense crowd of animals. There must have been at least a hundred of them, right?

Squirrels of all sizes were staring at them with eerie, glowing eyes.

Xu Jiali’s expression changed instantly. "Sister Yingying, did Little White... lose?"

Being stared at by all those eerie eyes was truly terrifying.

Xu Jiali was about to cry too.

She’d thought Song Jiayan was too timid before, but it turned out she wasn’t much better. *Sniffle sniffle*.

Only Wen Ying’s expression remained largely unchanged.

"I didn’t expect to find so many different types of squirrels here." Looking at the pack, Wen Ying had already identified seven or eight different species.

There was even an endangered species of squirrel.

"See that one? The one with the long, slender body, short and wide skull, black back, and bushy tail that’s longer than its body? That’s a nationally protected animal, a black giant squirrel."

Wen Ying’s voice held a trace of excitement.

"Black giant squirrels mainly live in tropical rainforests and are usually solitary. I can’t believe we’re seeing one here, and with other squirrels too. What a spectacle."

Wen Ying was admiring the sight, but Xu Jiali and Song Jiayan were trembling with fear.

Suddenly, three dark streaks of light shot toward the faces of Wen Ying, Xu Jiali, and Song Jiayan.

Just as Xu Jiali and Song Jiayan were stumbling and about to fall, the Doctor Wen they knew suddenly bent down, picked up a few small stones from the ground, and flung them haphazardly.

’It’s over, it’s over!’

Song Jiayan couldn’t help but despair.

But the next second, Wen Ying reached out and stuck a sheet of talisman paper on each of them. The two leaned against a nearby tree and slowly closed their eyes.

The once cute and goofy Little White suddenly swelled in size, and behind it, an ethereal projection about ten feet tall materialized.
