Without waiting long, the three also made their move. And their aura seemed to shake the entire battlefield.
But unlike the two transformation-realm elders that made a move earlier, they didn’t transform; instead, they attacked with terrifying abilities.
The female captain from the Flameheart family just waved her hand, and then a sea of orange flames engulfed dozens of beasts, killing them instantly. Whether it was the flames’ temperature or the area it covered was nothing like anything.
Within fifty metres, everything that came into contact seemed to be burnt to a crisp.
The transformation-realm bloodline awakener from the Nightwing family seemed to just walk through the hordes of beasts. Dark energy seeped from the ground beneath the beasts like countless hungry ghosts.
One after another... The beasts withered into dry, lifeless corpses as their life force was devoured.
Finally...
Guard Serpent of the Silverblade Family slowly drew his sword.
With a single effortless slash... A silver sword aura nearly twenty-five metres long tore across the battlefield.
Everything in its path—beasts, rocks, and even the earth itself—was cleanly split apart.
After the five transformation realms joined the battle, the situation seemed to have changed as they slaughtered more than a thousand beasts within ten minutes.
The pressure on everyone decreased, and finally they were able to breathe for some time. The number of beasts around them visibly became small. But when they looked at the deep mountain and the howls of countless beasts, they couldn’t be happy.
This was the first wave, and many more would come. So, they needed to rest and be recharged for the next waves of attack.
They quickly started to clear the remaining beasts, and within half an hour the first wave of the beast tide mostly ended.
Many people immediately collapsed onto the ground from exhaustion. Others clutched their wounds while silently thanking Goddess Ethos for surviving the first assault.
On all different sides of Flameheart City, the situation was the same, as they somehow managed to survive the first wave.
Max, Andrew, and Mathew also found a quiet corner atop the wall and sat down. He was alright, as he had just received some minor scratches which had already healed on their own, thanks to his blood dragon body.
But the two brothers were quite injured and had multiple wounds all over their bodies.
They quickly took the healing potion given to them by the Flameheart family, as they needed to return to their best state and recover as much as possible before the next wave arrived.
Leaning against the stone wall, Max quietly gazed across the battlefield.
Hundreds of corpses lay scattered below, with most not even having full body parts; some had legs or arms missing. The entire tens-of-metres-high wall was covered in blood red.
This scene was gruesome and was frankly quite terrifying, as this was something he had never seen or experienced before. Although he changed and adapted quickly, for some reason. It was just a day into this new world and was too much.
He needed to close his eyes and take a deep breath as he tried to calm down. In a minute, the restless feeling was suppressed by him.
The number of people who died was quite high, and even some bloodline awakeners seemed to have also lost their lives in the first wave. It was brutal, even though it was just a first wave.
Everyone, just like Max’s small group, sat scattered across the city wall, using every spare moment to rest and recover.
Before long, a group of four bloodline awakeners approached them.
The trio looked at the four calmly, as they were the bloodline awakeners who were fighting nearby them and were rogue or commoner bloodline awakeners.
"Can we sit?" Asked the oldest among them, a man who appeared to be in his fifties.
Andrew and Mathew instinctively looked toward Max.
After everything they had been through together, the brothers had developed tremendous trust in him. They had witnessed his strength firsthand. Although Max was an inexperienced newcomer, he had already become the pillar of their small group.
Max nodded; he had watched the four fighting. They were just like them, the rogue bloodline awakeners, and weren’t weak. And surviving until now was already proof of their strength.
The group of four quickly sat down beside them, feeling relieved.
Their goal was quite simple; they simply wanted to join hands with the trio. They had seen the trio fight, especially Max, who was quite great, as he seemed not injured at all. He even seemed to have stamina to fight more.
With such strength, if they joined hands, the chances of their survival would increase many times. Among the rogue martial artists, they were among the best, so they wanted to join hands.
"You two must be the famous Sword and Spear Brothers," the old man said with a smile before turning toward Max. "But you... I’ve never heard of such an extraordinary young mercenary."
"My name is Max, and I’m kind of new in the mercenary game, so it is normal you never heard of me." He answered calmly.
"Haha, that makes sense. Otherwise, someone with your strength would already be well known."
The old man chuckled before lightly tapping his chest.
"Ah, where are my manners? I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Alger, one of the captains of the Shadow Wolf Mercenary Group. The three behind me are also members of the Shadow Wolf Mercenaries."
Andrew and Mathews showed a bit surprised expression as they seemed to know about the Shadow Wolf Mercenary Group. Max noticed this and looked at the two brothers for an answer.
Andrew understood and quickly explained, "The Shadow Wolf Mercenary Group is one of the most famous mercenary organisations in this region. They have hundreds of members, including more than twenty bloodline awakeners."
"They can be considered one of the strongest forces outside the noble families. In fact, they are powerful enough to contend with some of the weaker noble houses."
He paused before sighing.
"Unfortunately, their captain has been stuck at the Blood Awakening Realm for years. Without a Transformation Realm expert, no mercenary group can truly stand on equal footing with the noble families."
