He looked at the panel for a long time.

Attack power 4,905 on a blade that scaled with his attributes. Strength 5,624 behind it. The combined offensive output will be phenomenal. He was aware of this. But each threshold crossed made the awareness more concrete, not abstract.

He closed the panel.

The Greater Qilin was watching him from four meters away, sitting with the settled patience it had developed since the evolution. The afternoon light, the ambient glow that passed for daylight in this environment, was moving toward the cooler spectrum that preceded the expanse’s version of evening. Around him, thousands of floating islands continued their slow drift on patterns he had spent days learning.

He sat with the view for a moment and let his mind move through everything it had accumulated.

He had entered this expanse several weeks ago through a rift in Celestial City’s outer district, after a worldwide system notice that sixty million registered hunters had received simultaneously.

The event had happened once before. One hundred and fifty years ago. But no confirmed awakenings.

Nonetheless, the first thing Lin Yi had done after entering was open his system panel, confirm his baseline, and build a plan from what he observed rather than from what he assumed.

The plan was straightforward. Other hunters would collect jades. He would level. In a month, or slightly more, he would be at a level where he could collect jades from any source in the expanse, including from the hunters who had spent months gathering them.

The principle that had governed everything since his system first activated in Jianghe had not changed. The scale had changed.

He then thought about Wang Hao. The person who had knocked on his door before six in the morning more times than Lin Yi had counted, carrying tea, always having something to say, staying loyal with an uncomplicated consistency Lin Yi had learned to recognize as rare. Wang Hao was in Celestial City right now, in the academy residential block or a seminar room or at the hunter market, not able to enter this expanse because the level threshold was 100 and he was not there yet.

He thought about Shen Rou. The glasses she had started wearing after two words he said, his thoughts moved to the Celestial Emperor Note in his inventory. The fragment the girl on Floor 33 of the Dragon God Tower had recognized immediately, said was left deliberately by someone. He still did not fully understand what it meant. She had said that was what he had to figure out. She had also said they would meet again.

He then thought about the academy. The thing the historical record described as an opportunity the hunters of one hundred and fifty years ago had not been equipped to receive. A second class structure, parallel to the first, with its own skills and ceiling. And the Talent, described as something above class mechanics entirely, a permanent enhancement that made its possessor categorically different from peers at every equivalent measure.

He stood up.

The Greater Qilin rose with him, the motion smooth and immediate.

"Next cluster," Lin Yi said.

The qilin moved toward the island’s edge, its multicolored scales catching the ambient light of the expanse in the deeper spectrum they had held since the transformation. It was ready before he was.

He was ready immediately after.

They stepped off the island together, Phantom Void Step carrying him across the gap and Heaven Step available if the distance required more, and the next cluster of islands resolved from the ambient haze of the expanse into distinct shapes ahead, each one carrying the energy signature of the monsters that inhabited it.

Level 165 readings on the leading island. Higher in the interior of the cluster.

The Predatory Instinct passive skill registered them before he was close enough to see them with his eyes. Positions, movement patterns, the faint telling of weak points.

He drew the Celestial Lord Blade, as the first engagement of the evening was twenty seconds away.
