Running for my life reminded me of a certain mad dog who kept chasing me when I was younger. That mad dog did everything its master told him to, and it always had its focused, dilated pupils on me.

A mad dog my father picked from the streets, raised as a loyal pet, and a hunting beast.

Damn it, why did I have to bump into that deranged guy?! Of all people?! I should have known that funeral halls are where they normally lurk around, forcing even the dead to pay them.

I turned to the corner. Once I knew I was out of his sight, I threw all my belongings over the fence of someone’s backyard and then continued running for my limbs.

I’m not certain my father’s ready to kill me once I’m caught, but I’m sure one of my limbs won’t be safe.

I jumped over the railings and landed two meters down on an underpass, then ran again. I knew, even without looking back, that I was still followed. I couldn’t even go home straight since once they found my address, they won’t leave me alone again.

I entered a residential area where houses were cramped together and alleys were dark and smelly. My knees were shaking already. How long have I been running?

Glancing behind my back, I sighed in relief when I saw no one. I sluggishly leaned on the brick wall, and rubbed my aching knees, while panting for air.

"Son of a bitch. Putting me through this again—"

"I can’t tell if my mother’s a bitch or not, young master, since I’ve never really met her, unfortunately."

Fuck.

A sinister presence appeared behind me, standing closer my back was almost touching his chest. I could feel his breath just above my ear, and even without seeing his face, I was certain a devious grin was plastered on his face.

He would always grin like that whenever he caught me as if rejoicing at his victory. I despised that grin, second to my father’s proud face.

I walked away, slowly. He didn’t grab me and just followed behind. I was gathering my strength to run again, but then he spoke.

"Turn left, young master."

"I have somewhere to be."

"Oh, yes, you are. That’s why I’m guiding you politely."

"Polite or not, it’s going to end badly for me either way, right?"

A soft chuckle came from him. "Not sure. Your father had been searching for you non-stop ever since you disappeared. Why would I harm his precious son?"

"I bet you’re more precious to him than me," I deadpanned.

My steps quickened. But so were his. There’s no escaping this bastard.

"Let me go. If he’s looking for me because of the money I stole, I’ll pay it back, with interest."

"That’s not the reason why, young master."

I didn’t turn on the left. I continued walking straight ahead. However, as expected, he grabbed me, by the scruff of my neck like a predator dragging his prey to his lair. Screw him.

The moment he forced me, my hand shot up and aimed for his face, slapping him out of the way. He caught my wrist, grinning at me like a damn fool. I twisted my body and kicked him next.

I’m confident I have become stronger and good at close combat because of Lexie’s training, so I took chances.

"Fighting back is futile, young master," the mad dog barked.

My kick landed, but like an iron gate, he was unshaken. My wrist was let go; thus, I jumped backward, away from him.

"Running is useless, too."

"It’s not if you don’t chase me."

How come this bastard is so fast? And he didn’t even look exhausted after all that running! His eyes crinkled, clearly amused. He nodded his head as if agreeing with me. Then, he gestured his hand to the road and answered.

"Very well, young master. Let’s play. I’ll give you a ten-minute heads-up. If I don’t catch up to you until you reach the highway, I’ll pretend I didn’t see you today."

Is he serious?

He smiled. "Run as fast as you can, young master." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

I disappeared before he could even finish his sentence. Serious or not, giving me a ten-minute heads-up is foolish. I’ve rested enough, and once I reached the highway, I just have to head straight to the nearest police station, or somewhere crowded.

My face brightened after seeing the lights on the main road, vehicles passing in a blink, and the sound of their honks. I sighed in relief, looked back to check on the mad dog, and—

"Ah, fuck you!"

I punched him in the face, but his head only turned to the side like a robot. I swallowed the lump in my throat. He looked pissed after that blow. But how did he...

"You cheated, didn’t you? Ha! I should know better than to trust your words. You were just—hup! What are you doing?! Fuck, let me down!"

He suddenly carried me like a sack on his shoulders, then walked away from the main road. My hands yanked his head repeatedly, but he was unbothered.

"Young master, if someone hears you, they’d think we’re lovers fighting over a cheating matter."

"Don’t say such revolting things."

I kicked my feet, aiming at his lower abdomen, while my hands were punching his back nonstop, and pulling his head away until his neck broke.

However, my attempts were stopped when my vision blurred, the lights turned like swords like I was viewing them with astigmatism, and the gust of winds hit the back of my head.

We were just a hundred meters away from the main road, but in the blink of an eye, we were now standing in front of a three-story building. A white banner with bold letters was hung on it.

"Jade Dela Torre Logistics. This small company was built by your father as a gift for your graduation, young master."

Who fucking names their business after their whole name?
