Chapter 114: THIRD POV.
In that book, his reckless choices and stubborn attitude had caused nothing but pain and destruction for everyone around him.
Not to mention his inability to make up his mind in a relationship.
Yet, here he was, looking at me like I was the bad guy.
I let out a sigh, deciding to ignore the fool. He wasn’t worth my time anyway, and I had much more important things to worry about than a grumpy mans bad attitude.
I adjusted my clothes and started walking down the narrow, dimly lit hallway.
"And what do you think you’re doing," he said when he saw me walking towards him, or to be specific, the door behind him.
He stepped out away from the wall, placing his body right in the middle of the corridor to block my path.
"I merely wish to talk with your master," I said, stopping a few feet away from him.
I let out another sigh, trying my best to keep my voice calm and polite. "Please be a lad and tell her to come out and meet me."
"I’m sorry, but her highness isn’t in the mood to entertain guests at the moment," he said with a flat face.
His voice was cold, completely devoid of any emotion, and he didn’t move an inch.
He was acting like a brick wall, determined to keep me as far away from the princess as possible.
My eyes twitched hearing this. The sheer nerve of this guy was unbelievable.
"Says who?" I asked, raising a brow, my face annoyed.
I looked him up and down, noting that his clothes were still a bit damp and his posture was stiff from his injuries.
He had no authority on this ship, yet he was trying to dictate who could speak to whom.
Alas, Flounder turned silent, refusing to say anything more.
He just stared at me with those stubborn dark eyes, his jaw clamped shut. He was trying to play the silent, mysterious protector, and it was getting on my last nerve.
Feeling more irritated by his childish behavior, I stepped forward, intending to knock on the door and see for myself.
I reached my hand out toward the brass handle, completely ignoring his presence.
"Stay your hand!"
To think this bastard unsheathed his blade and pointed it at my throat, just centimeters away from piercing through.
The sound of metal sliding out of its leather sheath was incredibly sharp in the quiet hallway.
The cold tip of the iron sword was hovering right against my skin, so close that I could feel the chill of the metal.
One small twitch from his hand, and it would have cut right into my neck.
A cold glint flashed past my eyes for a moment. My body went completely still, my muscles tightening as a sudden rush of cold anger washed through my veins.
Wasn’t this going a bit too far, I thought. Pointing a deadly weapon at the person who just saved your life over a simple knock on a door was beyond crazy. It was a direct threat to my life.
But before my impulses could take over, and prompt me to crush his throat into dust, the wood of the cabin door behind him groaned.
The door creaked as it was slowly open.
"What’s going on, what’s all the commotion," a voice called out.
Rather than Rebecca, out stepped Rudwig. The chubby man looked curious, but the moment he took in the scene in the hallway, he froze.
"Flounder! What on earth are you doing?!" His face turned pale when he saw the both of us outside in the corridor, especially the blade at my throat.
His eyes looked like they were about to pop right out of his head, his round cheeks shaking with pure terror.
"Sheath your blade at once!" Rudwig barked, his voice cracking under the sheer panic.
He reached out and grabbed Flounder’s shoulder, trying to drag him back. He knew exactly what kind of trouble this could bring down on all their heads if the crew found out.
An irritated look emerged on Flounder’s face the moment Rudwig stepped out. He clicked his tongue softly, clearly unhappy about being interrupted.
Nevertheless, he did as told and sheathed his blade, sliding the metal back into its holder.
He then took a step back, but his eyes never left mine.
"I was merely protecting her highness. He wanted to barge his way into her quarters," Flounder said calmly with a straight face.
He spoke as if he had done absolutely nothing wrong, completely twisting the truth to make himself look like a perfect, loyal guard.
’Would you get a load of this guy,’ I thought to myself, staring at him in absolute disbelief.
To think this guy was so shameless to lie outright without a single shred of remorse.
I hadn’t tried to barge into anything; I had simply asked to speak with her and was about to knock. His definition of protection was completely warped by his own paranoia.
CRACK. CRACK. CRACK.
Rudwig’s eyes widened for a moment when I covered my right hand with dark scales before using that very hand to grip the blade, then shattering it to pieces.
It happened faster than either of them could track.
The useless iron fragments rained down onto the wooden floorboards, clinking loudly against each other as they scattered.
All that was left in Flounder’s sheath was a broken, jagged stub of metal.
While Rudwig was completely frightened, his mouth hanging open as he stared at the broken pieces of the weapon on the floor, Flounder on the other hand was more irritated if anything. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
He looked down at his empty hand and then up at me, his fists clenching at his sides.
Though he tried his best to hide it behind a cold, unbothered expression, I could see his twitching jaw and the anger burning hot in his eyes.
"Sir, please don’t hold it against him. I’m sure the lad was merely cautious is all," Rudwig apologized on Flounder’s behalf, stepping slightly between us as if he were trying to block any further violence.
