Arcane fluctuations of magical law spread outward from several spired towers at the core palace complex of the Elven Royal Court, forming transparent links of magic that interwove like a spider’s web, covering the entire examination ground above.

The written test venue was a spacious, rectangular open-air grand hall. Its overall layout was symmetrical along the central axis of the main entrance, orderly and aesthetically pleasing, with neat rows arranged on both sides.

Classic white walls and blue tiles presented a harmony of blue sky and white clouds. The eaves of the hall roof were light as birds in flight. The beams and pillars were of a material like white jade, adorned with classic arboreal carved patterns. The large windows on both sides were all open, letting in ample light and fresh air.

Among the ten elves taking the exam, Aislin was the last to hand in her paper—and also the one with the heaviest expression.

“See? I told you our Princess would be the last one out of the exam hall! You lost—pay up, pay up!”

“Shh, stop making noise. Look who’s here?”

“Who? Did Her Majesty the Queen come to check the Princess’s results in advance?”

“Pah, pah, pah! Don’t talk nonsense. Just turn around and look, won’t you?”

Dressed in formal attire and wearing a crown, the Elven Queen stood upon the phoenix’s back, scepter in hand. Her silver-gray eyes lingered on Vieya for a moment, then quietly shifted away.

“Let’s go first...”

In the elven crowd, Vieya’s shoulder was suddenly patted. Aislin stood behind her. After glancing at the Elven Queen, she explained,

“This afternoon we still have to go to the altar at Mirror Lake for the Heart Appraisal ceremony. Mother only came this time to go through the motions. Her speech will be very boring. But if you want to listen, I can stay with you for a while.” She paused, then said, “After all, the first time you see anything, it’s natural to feel curious.”
