Without another word, the two of them disappeared just as abruptly as they had arrived, leaving the room steeped in an unsettling stillness.

Gavriel rose from his seat and moved towards the window, his gaze lifting to the sky where dark clouds churned restlessly. A low rumble of thunder rolled through the distance, as though the heavens themselves echoed the storm gathering within him.

A soft buzzing from his phone drew his attention away from the view. He turned and walked with unhurried steps towards the side table where it lay.

Glancing at the unknown number, his eyes narrowed slightly before he swiped the screen and brought the phone to his ear in silence.

He waited for a few seconds before a soft, alluring voice drifted through the line. "Hello?"

The moment he heard her voice, Gavriel did not need a second to guess who it was.

There was only one woman bold enough to call him like this, let alone obtain his number, something only a select few ever had access to.

A flicker of interest lit his eyes as curiosity settled in.

’What is she up to now?’ he wondered.

"Am I still connected, or are you pretending not to be on the line anymore?" Aliana asked, suspicion lacing her tone.

A small smile curved Gavriel’s lips as he replied in a deep, magnetic drawl. "How did you get my number?"

There was a brief pause on the other end before she responded, "Is that really important? Shouldn’t your question be why I am calling you?"

"Hm... and why is that?" His smile deepened, his tone carrying quiet amusement.

"I thought we had already come to a mutual understanding regarding our living arrangements," she stated, as though the matter had been thoroughly discussed and agreed upon.

"I don’t recall agreeing to anything. What I do remember is being blackmailed by a little rose."

"Little rose? Why do you keep calling me that? I have a name, you know," Aliana replied, a hint of confusion in her voice.

"But this one suits you more," His voice dropped an octave, causing Aliana’s breath to hitch.

She cleared her throat, clearly flustered. "Well, anyway... I called to ask, why aren’t you here yet?"

"Where else should I be if not in my own house?" Gavriel asked, his gaze fixed on the roses outside his window, a smile lingering on his lips.

"With me. In my house," Aliana said firmly. "Didn’t I mention that it would benefit you if I stayed alive? What do you plan to do when I’m left alone with no one to help me?"

She paused before adding, her voice tightening slightly, "The sun is setting... we can discuss everything else once you’re here. I’ll send you my address."

A heavy silence stretched for a few seconds before Gavriel replied, "You really didn’t take my words seriously, did you, Aliana?"

There was a pause on the other end before she replied, her voice softer this time.

"I could say the same about you."

Before Gavriel could respond, she rushed to speak, "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to blackmail you, but since we’re already at this stage... move in with me."

A stunned silence followed on his end, but Aliana pressed on, her voice softer yet urgent.

"I promise I won’t trouble you or bother you with anything. I’m only asking for this until... until I figure out how to get out of this. I only mentioned us being in a relationship so others wouldn’t question it further."

She hesitated briefly before adding, her voice dipping slightly, "So please... I’ll do anything in return for what you ask of me... as long as it’s within my capacity, I’ll make sure to fulfil it."

There was a pause on Gavriel’s end before he spoke, his voice lowering into a velvety, almost sinful whisper.

"Anything?"

He could hear her breath falter against the receiver before she answered, "Y-yes... so what do you say? Are you coming?"

"Tell me, Aliana... would you offer the same to just about any man who could help you in this situation?" Gavriel asked, his voice turning icy and cold.

"I... no, of course not. I was only trying to make this mutually beneficial for both of us. Why would you even ask that when the person I’m offering this to is you?" Aliana replied, her confusion clear through the line.

And yet, her answer did not satisfy the devil.

If anything, it felt as though he were about to snap.

Without giving himself time to dwell on it, he cut in, his tone sharp, "Then let me give you some advice. Don’t go offering yourself to just anyone out of desperation. I think we’re done here."

With that, the line went dead.

A sudden flare of rage consumed Gavriel.

His gaze fixed on the sky outside, which was now roaring with thunder as the wind whipped into a frenzy.

A storm was about to break, yet if anyone were to look at him, they would know he was far more dangerous than the tempest brewing outside.

Back in Victorian Heights, Aliana stared at her phone with a scowl etched across her face, only to flinch as lightning tore across the storm-darkened sky.

Night was settling in.

And with it, a quiet, creeping unease began to coil in her chest.

Her heart beat faster, restless, while anxiety pricked at her senses. Her breathing turned uneven as she slowly looked around her luxurious penthouse.

With the sky dimming behind dark clouds and flashes of lightning illuminating the space in abrupt bursts, the place felt less like a home and more like a set from a horror movie.

Taking a sharp inhale, she quickly rushed to her room and straight into her walk-in closet.

She grabbed a knee-length trench coat and threw it over her white sleeveless dress, then slipped into her black boots.

After snatching her purse and car keys, she rushed to the elevator, her jaw set in determination.

"If you think I’m someone who will just sit and wait for things to happen to her," she murmured, "then I’ll make sure to prove you wrong, Gavriel."

Within moments, she reached the garage where her cars were lined up.

Sliding into her black Bentley, she started the engine without hesitation. The powerful roar filled the space as she gripped the wheel, and in the next second, she sped out into the storm.

She drove towards a destination that was about to change everything in her life.
