"He?" Rose echoed, her lips curling into a smirk. "Who is this ’he’? Don’t tell me your boyfriend ran away while you were in a coma and now you’re searching for him. Oh my, I understand. Men are like that. One moment they say they love you, and the next, their wandering eyes are fixed on someone else."

Aliana blinked, staring at her, wondering where that had come from. Then it clicked, she had mentioned her husband and his mistress.

Letting out a soft sigh, she cleared her throat. "Well, no, he’s not. But I strongly believe he is responsible for whatever is happening to me."

This effectively shut the ghost lady up.

She raised a brow. "And how do you think he did that?"

Aliana shifted uncomfortably in her seat before answering, "Well, for a start, I saw him right before I lost consciousness after my accident."

"And?" Rose pressed.

"And I think... I think he’s... one of you," Aliana finished.

Silence filled the space before Rose burst into laughter, the sound coming out slightly scratchy to the ear.

When she finally calmed down, she replied, "Do you really think we hold that kind of power, to just make people clairvoyant? Really... if that were the case, I would have done it to my husband and his mistress long ago and made their lives a living hell."

Ali pressed her lips together before muttering, "Maybe he’s someone who’s a little more powerful than... than the usual ones?"

Rose stared at Aliana with her pale eyes before commenting, "I don’t think even you know what you’re talking about."

"I may not," Aliana admitted in a small voice, before adding, "but I do believe he’s responsible for it. So I want you to find out anything you can about a man with icy blue eyes who was present at my accident that night."

"Icy blue eyes? Do you know how many I’ll find with a description that vague?" Rose scoffed.

"Well... I know I saw a man with those eyes. And there was no one else apart from him," Ali’s brows drew together at the memory as she added, "Also, there was a child, no more than five. He was the one I was chasing, and he looked nothing like you."

"What do you mean?" Rose asked.

"Well, he looked... evil. He had jagged teeth and pitch-black, hollow eyes. That reminds me... why do you look like yourself while others look so different?" Aliana asked.

Rose fell silent for a moment before replying, "That’s because those spirits have already turned evil, beyond return. I haven’t been dead for long, which is why I still look like this. But... if I remain in this world, I’ll end up like them too, sooner or later."

"Oh," Aliana responded softly, mulling over the new information.

Rose quickly returned to the matter at hand. "So you saw an evil spirit and then a man with icy blue eyes. What makes you think that man was one of us?"

This made Aliana pause for a moment.

Now that she thought about it, she realised that every spirit she had seen either had hollow black eyes or pale white ones like Rose, but never their actual pupil colour.

And that man had clearly possessed normal-looking eyes.

Was she wrong about her theory again? The thought unsettled her.

"I don’t know, honestly. It was just one of my theories. If it isn’t true, then there’s something else I simply can’t wrap my head around. Either way, I know he’s responsible for my current condition. So please... could you help me find out about him?" Ali looked at Rose with expectant eyes, hoping she would agree.

"Fine, I’ll help you find out about this mysterious man," Rose replied, and Ali’s eyes instantly lit up, but then the woman added, "But... I’ll do it on one condition."

"What condition?" Ali asked, frowning.

"You’ll have to help me get rid of that vixen clinging to my husband and sleeping in my bed!" Rose demanded through gritted teeth, making it very clear how deeply it affected her.

Aliana replied, "Well, I have a policy. I don’t dismantle people if they haven’t done anything to me."

"Ah... then let me give you some insight. She was one of the women who was spreading lies among the elite about you going insane," Rose happily offered the gossip.

"Why would she do that? I don’t even know her," Aliana replied.

"Well, I do remember watching your latest interview, where you mentioned the vice president of a tech company you brought down. Guess whose mother happens to be my husband’s mistress?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Aliana’s eyes widened. "No way. So she’s that pervert’s mother, who is now your husband’s mistress?"

"Yes. Her name is Lora Hill. She’s Jack Hill’s mother, who is currently rotting in jail. And let me tell you, she’s on a mission to drag your reputation through the mud," Rose continued.

"I see." Aliana thought about it for a moment before a smirk appeared on her face, one that suggested she was up to no good. "Fine, I agree to your terms. Consider it done. Now, will you help me first?"

Rose looked at her doubtfully, and Aliana added with more seriousness this time, "I give you my word, the woman will be gone once I return from my trip. I’ll use this time to plan her downfall, but before I leave, I need to know anything you can find about that man."

"Fine, I’ll be back in some time," Rose said before disappearing.

Aliana let out a soft sigh, recalling how Rose had returned just as confused, claiming that no spirit knew anything about the man. It had left both of them wondering if he had even existed in the first place.

Turning onto her back, she stared at the ceiling and murmured, "What am I going to do now?"

Just then, a knock sounded on her door.

She glanced at the time. It was already seven in the morning.

Getting out of bed, she quickly wrapped herself in a robe before heading to the door.

When she opened it, her eyes widened slightly to see Jacob standing there, dressed in a crisp white shirt and tailored trousers.

"Good morning, Aliana," he greeted her with a warm smile.

"Oh, morning, Jacob. You’re already dressed..." Aliana commented, her eyes briefly scanning his outfit before adding, "I thought the conference didn’t start before eleven?"

Jacob let out a soft chuckle. "You’re right, it doesn’t, but that’s not why I came here." His dull yellow eyes dipped slightly below her face for a brief moment, catching a glimpse of the white lace peeking from her nightgown, before quickly returning to her eyes. "I was wondering if you’d like to join me for breakfast."

Though his gaze had lingered only for a second, Aliana noticed. She subtly adjusted her robe, pulling it closer around her neck before replying, "Oh..." A small smile touched her lips. "As you can see, I’ve just woken up, so I’ll need a little time to get ready."

"Yes, I can. It’s alright, I can wait..."

"No, please, you don’t need to do that. You can go ahead without me. Anyway, I’m not that hungry. I’ll join you later, alright?" Aliana refused politely, already moving to close the door so he could leave.

Jacob opened his mouth to say something more, but just then, another figure appeared at the doorway.

"Oh, good morning, boss! I see you’re up already. I was just coming to wake you... up..." Nigel trailed off as his gaze landed on Jacob standing right outside Aliana’s door.
