I wake up with a frantic jerk, looking left and right. Total darkness fills the hut, so I quickly turn on my phone’s flashlight. It’s only been an hour since I passed out.

Opening the door, I see the fire I started before losing consciousness has already burned out. I head back inside the hut and inspect my body.

A sticky, thin layer of goo covers my skin and when I take a small amount to smell it, an awful stench instantly assaults my nose.

I glance around the room and thankfully spot a covered metal container in the corner, filled to the brim with water.

After showering, I return inside and put my clothes back on. Though a faint strange odor still lingers on my body because I didn’t use soap. However, it’s significantly better than before.

[Man, first off, give me a proper name. It’s weird for you to keep calling me A.I.]

I stare at the screen in shock before a smile slowly creeps onto my lips.

’Fine, I’ll name you Zero.’

[Zero? Hmm... why that choice?]

’Hey, you literally asked me to give you a name, which I did. Why are you questioning me? Besides, I named you Zero because you’re the closest thing I have. Even if the whole world turns against me, you’d still be there. I can always count on you.’ I shamelessly sugarcoat my words while grinning inwardly.

The moment the words appear, Zero vanishes from my sight without even answering my question. It’s as if it became so happy that it completely forgot about it. I don’t bother calling it again.

The next moment, I rise from the floor, leave the hut, and begin strolling through the village. The deeper I go, the thicker the fog becomes. The village is surprisingly huge and I take back my earlier thoughts. Even though the Wolfkin buildings are less impressive, the entire place is well organized with clean roads and patches of greenery.

Suddenly, I spot a large building in the distance. The Mana radiating from it is so intense that I unconsciously begin walking toward it. I push open the unlocked door and a massive hall reveals itself before my eyes.

The source of the overwhelming Mana is a huge pile of Mana crystals stacked on the uppermost platform of the hall.

There are different kinds of Mana crystals in this world. First are energy crystals, usually mined and used to power things like cars, phones, and other devices. Then there are dungeon crystals. These are found abundantly only inside dungeons and contain highly dense Mana. They are difficult to harvest because monsters usually attack anyone trying to take them. Because of their rarity, they’re mainly used for important purposes like powerful barriers, enchanted accessories, and other magical constructions rather than ordinary energy supply.

Then there are Monster Cores. These are crystals found only inside monsters. Unlike normal Mana crystals or dungeon crystals, they aren’t used as energy sources because they contain the very essence of the monster they were harvested from.

’Zero, scan these crystals for me.’

My eyes widen at the response. Even half-depleted, they’re radiating an absurd amount of Mana.

[If not quickly dealt with, they will attract monsters.]

I quickly rush toward the platform where the crystals are stored, but suddenly stop dead in my tracks as the hairs on my neck rise.

BAM!

The hall door swings open violently and a powerful gust of wind rushes inside, nearly sweeping everything away.

[DING!]

[Presence Of A Ghost Detected!]

The door slams shut again with a deafening thud. The violent wind slowly twists into a whirlpool before condensing into a silhouette. Moments later, the figure of a tall woman appears.

She wears a loose black gown, her elongated fluffy ears twitching slightly while a massive furry tail swirls behind her. Golden bangles hang from her wrists and ankles, producing soft jingling sounds with every step she takes.

The most horrifying part is the black miasma dancing wildly around her body. Her hollow black eyes look almost inhuman while blood stains the corners of her mouth. She must have been an incredibly beautiful woman when she was alive before turning into a depraved spirit after dying as a famous prostitute of this village.

"Don’t you want to have some fun too, boy?" the ghost asks in a sinister voice. My apparent fear seems to delight her even further as she slowly climbs onto the platform.

Pretending to flee from her, I crash into a pile of junk and hit a dead end before falling onto my back with a terrified expression plastered across my face.

The ghost stops right in front of me and flashes a menacing smile.

"Let me pleasure you," she whispers creepily as her hand moves toward my waist. In a swift, almost inexplicable motion, my pants are stripped away, leaving me stunned.

At that moment, I finally realize what Class this ghost possessed when she was alive.
