I look up and see a beautiful, tall figure standing around six feet tall with long silver hair, wearing leather pants and a jacket. She has sharp eyebrows, red eyes, and slightly elongated ears. Her makeup has a gothic touch that matches the styling of her outfit. No doubt about it, this woman was a vampire.

She stops a few feet away from the futon and folds her arms, a smile creeping onto her face.

I just sit there, confused, wondering why her eyes are glowing all of a sudden. How cool would it be if I could make my eyes glow like that too?

I stare at the strange woman muttering to herself with a shocked expression, as if she’d just seen a ghost.

"Hey, are you just going to stand there muttering to yourself all day? Also, I love the glowing-eye effect. Can you teach me how to do that?" I ask with a chuckle, but my words only seem to make her even more shocked.

"No... way," she mutters again.

She slowly walks toward me, her expression turning grim as she points a finger in my direction.

"Y-You... you are a noble vampire. No... no, royal blood," she mutters before suddenly kneeling in front of me, surprising me even further.

"Hey, look... I don’t get all the bullshit you’re talking about. What’s your name, and how did I end up here?" I ask impatiently.

"My name is Beatrix Vondrack, an A-Rank assassin. I saved you on the battlefield after you passed out from taking a direct hit to the head. Since you didn’t know how to heal yourself, I brought you to my room and triggered your natural healing using blood arts. I only allowed Lady Tiriana to stay by your side because I know her, and she was the one most worried about you," she says quietly, no longer looking smug. Now, there’s only curiosity on her face.

Everything finally clicks into place.

"Ah, I understand now. Thank you for saving me, Beatrix," I say, and she nods while continuing to look at me curiously.

Things got weird really fast.

"So... why were you muttering to yourself and looking shocked like you’d seen something horrible?" I ask.

"Wait... do you really not know how to use blood arts?" she asks.

"I seriously don’t know how to use blood arts. I have amnesia and don’t remember my past. I’m basically learning everything from scratch, you see..." I explain.

"That explains the absurdity. I’ve never seen a grown vampire who doesn’t know how to use blood arts. It’s something we’re taught from childhood, or naturally comprehend while growing up.

"Vampires rule through hierarchy, and our natural abilities reflect that. Aside from magic and mana, we’re naturally stronger than most races even without blood arts. As a noble-born vampire, I can forcefully command regular vampires or weaker nobles to obey me or answer my questions because of my bloodline. Just as we do that to ordinary vampires, those with royal bloodlines can do the same to us. The strongest among them possess absolute command, which can enslave other vampires, including weaker royals.

"When I tried to use blood command on you, your blood repelled my authority without you even activating blood arts. That means you’re of royal descent. Should I take you back to the Kingdom? You might have gotten separated from your family because of your amnesia," she asks, her voice filled with eagerness.

I raise a hand and shake my head.

"I don’t think I ended up with amnesia for no reason, especially not to the point of waking up in a slave house. Someone must’ve done this to me. If somebody out there wants me gone, it’d be a huge mistake to reveal myself while I’m still weak. Don’t mention anything about the Kingdom. I’m not interested right now. When the time is right, I’ll uncover the truth myself," I say with a sigh, causing Beatrix’s eyes to widen.

"That makes sense. I apologize for insulting you without knowing the full story," she says with a respectful bow.

"It’s okay. Just don’t let word of what happened between me and my mother-in-law get out. She’s not that kind of person. I was the one who made a move," I say while watching her reaction, but she remains calm.

"I’ve known Lady Tiriana for a long time. I know she isn’t that type of woman. I heard her husband has been sick for years, so he’s probably not touching her.
