"You need to help me," Finn almost begged Nora, who used to be the closest to him in this office. Nora took the forced resignation from his hand and looked around her consciously.

"You need to talk to Mr. George Mason. No one can do anything for you. We all need our jobs," She muttered, handing him a slip with a forced smile, "You can come and get your dues cleared on Thursday."

Finn seemed too worried now. George Mason had assured him his support, and now he wasn’t even receiving his calls.

All those who were protesting against Sienna Mason were now doing their jobs quietly.

"What! Secretary? Ha-ha," Logan started laughing on the phone, and Hunter had to move the device away from his ear. His secretary’s voice was piercing his ear.

"Your wife hired you as her secretary. Unbelievable! So, Hunter... how does it feel to go from a CEO to a mere secretary? Ha-ha."

Hunter didn’t miss the smugness in his secretary’s voice, but still, he couldn’t control the grin forming on his face.

Sienna shot him an annoyed look and then closed her eyes, fighting back her anger, "Hunter. Listen to me..." She motioned for him to take a seat.

A little confused, Hunter did obey her. Once he sat down, he raised his face to meet her gaze. God!

She had fire in those green eyes.

"I. Am. Trying. To. Make. Your. Life. Better. Got it, Hunter?" She paused after every word to make him understand, "This is once in a lifetime chance. Don’t you want to prove yourself?"

Prove myself? To whom? And why?

Hunter didn’t dare to ask her.

"I know what you went through in your life... it wasn’t your mistake. But... we can’t destroy our lives just because people around us didn’t accept us... Trust me. We both are victims of similar circumstances."

She had started pacing again as the frown lines on her forehead multiplied.

When she stopped, Hunter braced himself for more, "Hunter... see... I know you’re a very good man. Okay? I’ve seen you... the way you care for people... you’re kind... compassionate."

This time, Hunter lowered his face to hide the smile threatening to break free.

Wait till Logan hears this.

"Hunter? Hunter!" She had stopped moving and was now watching his face carefully, "Are you even listening to what I’m saying?"

He was walking past the door when his contract wife’s voice stopped him, "Hunter?"

He turned around without saying a word. This time, she gave him a tight-lipped smile, "Don’t worry. I’ll pay you double salary."

For a moment, Hunter thought he heard her wrong, "What?"

She headed towards him and placed her hand on his shoulder, "I know you can’t believe it, but it’s true. You deserve it."

Hunter stood there, momentarily speechless. For a few seconds, there was an awkward silence between them.

Without a word, he turned on his heels to leave the room when she called him again, "And Hunter?"

This time, he didn’t turn around, "Hmm?"

She took a slow breath, as if choosing her words carefully, "Don’t disappoint me," She told him softly.

Hunter gulped hard and then nodded. He couldn’t stay there any longer.

His men dug out her past, but still, he was curious about her. What went wrong?

What did she want from this company so badly?

Once he was out, he typed a text message to Logan, "I need a competitive lawyer here at Mason Traders. Levisay International will pay him. Ask him to accept the offer without any argument."

Logan’s response was instant, "Sure. Consider it done."

Inside her office, Sienna went to the only window of her office and looked outside.

Suddenly, the corners of her eyes turned moist. She quickly wiped them hard with the back of her hand.
