The elven forest had been crawling with demons from the realm of the Demon King Rigal.

Although there were many of them, Ryan had managed to deal with them with Beatrice’s help.

Now that the elder and the surviving soldiers were safe.

"It would be best for us to head inside the village, but what shall we do with these two, young Ryan?"

The elder said, referring to the knights.

Beatrice positioned herself at Ryan’s right side.

She said this as she raised the axe she held in her hand.

The elder made a gesture as if he were thinking it over, then nodded.

The rest of the soldiers did as well.

They were all in agreement.

Then Ryan spoke.

"I think that would be for the best, but even so, I would first like to interrogate them. I know we can find out more, and I’m curious to know where they are stationed, how many of them came, and what their orders were."

"But young Ryan, they are dangerous. I would rather they not enter the village..."

"Don’t worry, elder. I will take responsibility for them. Do you have anything that functions as a prison within the village?"

The elder reflected for a moment.

"If you say you will handle it, I have no choice but to trust you. After all, no one here is going to question your power after seeing you fight."

Then the elder called two of the soldiers. They freed the holy knights, and two more soldiers approached; between the four of them, they carried them away.

Then everyone began to follow the elder, heading in the direction of the portal.

"Do you want me to torture them to get the information out?" Beatrice asked.

"No, I think I can do it myself. Well... at least with one of them."

Beatrice made a face, as if she didn’t quite understand what Ryan was trying to say.

But she didn’t ask further and simply continued following the path.

Once they arrived at a massive tree.

The elder extended the palm of his hand, and a ring he wore on his index finger began to glow.

Then the portal opened before them.

"Welcome once again to the humble elven village," the elder said, gesturing toward the portal’s entrance.

’So, that’s how it works... is it like some kind of parallel dimension? How fascinating.’

Beatrice was observing the portal with the curiosity of a child on their first visit to an amusement park.

"Have you never seen a portal before?" Ryan asked.

"Of course I have, but... you know, outside of a dungeon, it’s not like someone can just live inside a portal. The elves are the only ones who have achieved something like this, and no one knows how," Beatrice replied.

Then the elder intervened.

"And not even I know how. These things were built by our ancestors with the help of the dwarves, although... they live in conflict now. I know you must already know that the elven kingdom is allied with the Church; therefore, a small faction that opposed them was banished, and we built this village here."

’So the kingdom the viscount mentioned before... wow, who would have thought.’

The elder stepped behind Ryan and pushed him by the shoulders toward the portal.

"But we’ll talk about that later. Now, quickly, let us head inside."

Then everyone entered.

When the elves in the village noticed them, they began to approach.

But Ryan left along with the guards.

Beatrice accompanied them as well.

"What... are... you doing?" asked the girl from the holy knights, who had just regained consciousness.

No one answered her.

They simply continued to a place far from the houses of the village.

It was like a massive warehouse.

When they entered, one of the guards opened what looked like a door in the floor.

’A cellar?’

"This was for storing food, but... it might serve your purpose, young Ryan."

"Alright, I think this will work."

Then the guards headed in first.

Ryan and Beatrice stayed at the entrance to talk for a moment.

He asked her to stay hidden using stealth.

"Only act if you notice them using some relic, object, or scroll that looks suspicious, understand?"

"Yes, don’t worry," she replied after activating stealth.

Ryan was the first to enter.

They went down the stairs.

Then the holy knights began to complain, although their wounds kept them from moving.

One of the guards warned them that if they kept moving so stubbornly they would die, and that they should calm down.

They tied them to one of the pillars, and there they remained immobilized.

The guards withdrew at Ryan’s order, leaving the four of them alone in the room.

Ryan took a chair that was leaning against one of the walls, placed it in front of the knights, and sat down.

"You... you bastard. You’re a human, so why are you helping the elves? They are traitors."

"Do you really think you’re in a position to complain?"

"Of course we are. We are only delivering justice. The elves refused to hand over the beastmen, and they are an abomination to our deity. Just like demons, they must die; after all, they share the same origin."

’So their purpose was only to capture the beastmen? No, I doubt that. They would have killed everyone regardless.’

"I don’t care about that. I want you to tell me the name of your captain and which unit you come from."

’I know he isn’t a captain; his uniform isn’t the same as that annoying Gregory’s. That means this guy is just following orders.’

Both knights looked at each for a few seconds. Then they nodded.

Ryan raised his hand toward the knight.

"First, I’ll heal one, but don’t try anything strange, or I won’t be so kind afterward. Do you understand?"

"Yes, I promise," both replied with a faint smile.

’It’s so obvious what they’re planning... whatever.’
