By the time Sohen returned from his solitary walk to the cove, the sun had already set below the horizon, and his eyes took in the approaching night scenery.

As Sohen walked, he felt a strange, pleasant sense of calm after his encounter with Keiko — as if a part of him were still there, in the cave, listening to the whisper of the sea.

(This time without any erotic thoughts... almost.)

(~sound of a message from the phone)

- (Me). "Hm?... Who’s texting so late..."

(Oh! It’s Phoebe. She called just an hour ago. Is she really that worried about me... That’s nice.)

The message read:

- Where are you, Sohen? Will you be here soon? We’re already in the lobby, waiting...

(Can’t wait for me to get back?... You’re so sweet, Phoebe, hehe.)

Sohen smiled and dialed the number of his adopted mother, Karin.

(Better let Mom know I’m almost there, because Phoebe and Runo have this stupid habit of leaving their phones all over the place... Just like I said, my sister went offline the moment she texted me! One day I’m really going to punish her for this... with a special method, hehe.)

- (Me). "Mom, where are you? I’m on my way back."

Karin’s voice sounded a little flustered, but cheerful.

- (Karin). "Oh, Sohen, you won’t believe it! I just ran into an old friend of mine in the spa area — she used to be my old colleague! Do you remember Aunt Ezer? We haven’t seen each other in a few years. She’s here with her sister; they’re on vacation too. Right now we’re sitting in the lounge bar, drinking milkshakes, and reminiscing about the old days. Join us if you want, but we’ll be here for a while..."

Sohen barely managed to stifle a laugh. Typical Karin — she always managed to run into someone from her past.

- (Me). "I’m tired right now, so maybe another time. They’ll still be here for a while, right? Maybe we’ll meet up together tomorrow. Okay, have fun. By the way... Are Grandma and Phoebe around?"

- (Karin). "Phoebe’s somewhere by the pool, and Grandma... oh, wait, she ran into someone too. An old friend, I think. She’s here with her wife and kids... I think they’re lesbians. Mom went with them to dinner at a restaurant on the beach. So we’ve all kind of split up."

The hotel’s evening lighting had already come on: soft golden light, water features, quiet music.

He spotted Phoebe at one of the poolside bars.

She was sitting in a comfortable chair, her legs crossed, wearing a light, semi-transparent beach tunic over a red bikini.

In her hand — a glass of some bright cocktail.

- (Phoebe). "Oh! My big brother is back! You’ve been gone for a long time. Mom went out with a friend, Grandma met some strange woman with her whole family... and I was left all alone. It’s so sad. Sit down."

Sohen sank into the chair next to her.

The air was warm, heavy with the scent of flowers and salt.

- (Me). "What are you..."

Phoebe suddenly pulled out her phone and narrowed her eyes slyly.

- (Phoebe). "I have an idea. Let’s play some games on the phone. Something simple but fun. Like ’Truth or Dare,’ but in a digital format. There’s an app that generates questions. Or we can just take turns."

- (Me). "..."

The phone displayed a new question: "Truth: What do you want to do to me right now?"

Phoebe picked up the phone, read it, and looked Sohen straight in the eyes.

- (Phoebe). "I want you to walk me to my room and there... continue what you started on the beach this morning. Only without the jokes. Without Mom or Grandma. Just us. You don’t... stop, even if I ask... no, especially if I ask."

Sohen felt his whole body tense up.

They stood up and left the spot.

Phoebe took his hand and led him to the elevators.

In the elevator, she pressed her back against him, pressing his hand against her stomach.

When the elevator doors closed behind them, Phoebe turned to face him.

Sohen took a step forward.

Phoebe closed her eyes and tilted her head back, letting him explore.

The night at the five-star hotel was just beginning.

Outside the window, the ocean murmured softly, as if continuing the same whisper Sohen had heard in the bay.
