- (Me). "Huh?..."

The alarm clock rang, and Sohen finally woke up.

- (Me). "Is it almost evening already? Wow, I didn’t think I would sleep so long."

Sohen was embarrassed, but he showed with his whole demeanor that he didn’t understand why Nanako was acting this way.

Nanako’s problem was with the plumbing; the water pressure was low, the faucet was leaking, and it seemed that the sink was clogged.

He wasn’t a handyman, but he could solve some problems on his own, and this was no exception.

The plumbing in this house was outdated, and he knew that the previous neighbors, a retired couple, hadn’t done any repairs for a long time, so it was understandable that something like this could happen, although it was a little surprising that it happened so soon.

Nanako and Maria had only been living here for a few days and already had such problems.

The plumbing problem was visible to the naked eye, but Nanako probably didn’t notice it or perhaps didn’t understand it and ended up buying the house.

The house itself wasn’t bad, but it needed a good renovation.

We need to help them find the funds to renovate it to their liking.

We also need to consult with Runo and Karin about renovating Nanako’s house and recommend the same company that worked on ours.

Finding funds for Nanako was not a problem, but knowing her character, she would never take my money, and I don’t know how others would react to this news, so I need to come up with something to make everyone happy.

My lovely neighbor was around almost all the time, and we enjoyed talking about various topics.

Maria wasn’t with us, and I also noticed that since the day we became neighbors again, she had been quite cold and shy with me.

- (Nanako). "It’s okay, Sohen. I’ll find the money, it’s just... the house itself was quite expensive for my budget, and I’m not officially working right now, so there are some problems with that. Thank you for offering to buy it yourself, but I’m already embarrassed that I can’t repay you enough for today."

- (Me). "Don’t be shy, Aunt Nanako. You always helped me when I was a little boy, so I have to do something like this for you."

- (Nanako). "Sohen... You’ve grown up so fast, I can’t believe it. Thank you, but please know that I helped you back then because I wanted to, and please don’t think that you owe me anything or anything like that."

Her voice became sadder and she exhaled heavily several times.

I immediately realized that something was wrong and decided to end the conversation about him.

- (Me). "I’m sorry, Aunt Nanako, if this is something personal, I won’t talk about it anymore..."

- (Nanako). "It’s okay, Sohen. It’s not a secret or anything. It’s just that sometimes it hurts when I think about him."

- (Me). "???"

She gathered her strength and spoke.

- (Nanako). "We’ve been divorced for nine years, and all these years I’ve been a single mother."

Nanako told me more about her past life and why they divorced.

Her husband was away on business trips almost the entire time they were together and was not present in the lives of his daughter and wife.

He earned enough money to support the family on his own, so Nanako became a housewife.

She was at home all the time, while he traveled almost all over the country, and at some point he met a female colleague whom he liked very much.

At first, it was just a friendship between them, and they were both married, but about nine years ago, the female colleague’s husband told Nanako that her husband and his wife were lovers who were hiding their relationship.

He presented her with a lot of evidence online that Nanako’s husband was cheating on his wife and that he had a similar secret.

This news caused Nanako great physical and mental harm, which continues to this day.

She filed for divorce, and after some time, the trial began.

Nanako won the case outright, as she had sufficient evidence of her husband’s infidelity, and the court ordered her now ex-husband to pay alimony until Maria turned 18.

Her ex-husband was not happy with Nanako’s actions, but he was not opposed to becoming unmarried.

He promised to pay alimony on time, but only a month after their last conversation and a few days before he was supposed to pay the first alimony payment, he left the city where they lived with his mistress, and then even the country, and since then nothing has been heard from him.

- (Me). "I’m sorry, Aunt Nanako...

- (Nanako). "It’s okay, my dear. That’s life, and it’s always unpredictable. You have to keep living, and... I’m not alone. Maria will always be with me, and I’m happy that she’s my daughter. Our conversation turned from pleasant to gloomy, but after a few minutes we changed the subject and we both felt a little better.

After a while, I finished what I could do today and wanted to go home, but Nanako stopped me and suggested we have dinner together to at least thank me.

The three of us had dinner. Maria came after her mother called her.

Everything was delicious, but the mood was off.

Nanako tried to say something, but I could see that she was not in a good mood, and Maria was silent the whole time and tried not to interact with me.

Nanako thanked me, and I returned home.

When I arrived, my grandmother, mother, and sister were still having dinner.

I told them in detail everything I had done at Nanako’s house.
