The meeting in the forest ended without bloodshed.
Captain Rowan and his scouts returned to the Kingdom of Valenor carrying something far more dangerous than battle reports.
Questions.
For the first time, they had seen monsters building instead of destroying.
And questions had a way of changing history.
Back at the Abyssal Nest, the Council gathered before dawn.
News of the encounter had already spread through every district.
Some celebrated.
Others worried.
Kragga folded her arms.
"You let human soldiers walk away."
"I did," Vespera replied.
"They'll return."
"They probably will."
"And next time they might bring an army."
Gorvak rested his massive hands on the council table.
"Or diplomats."
"Or assassins," Darius added.
Silence settled over the chamber.
Every possibility carried equal weight.
The System chimed.

Lirael stepped forward.
"We've spent months proving monsters can work together."
She looked around the room.
"Now we have to prove we can live beside humans."
Seraphine nodded.
"The question is how."
Vespera looked toward the map spread across the table.
The Kingdom of Valenor lay beyond the northern mountains.
Several smaller baronies surrounded it.
Trade routes crossed their borders.
Old battlefields scarred the land between them.
"We won't wait for them to define us," Vespera said.
"We'll make the first move."
The room fell quiet.
"You mean..."
"A treaty?"
Lirael asked.
Vespera shook her head.
"No."
"A letter."
Even Kragga blinked.
"A letter?"
The queen smiled.
"The first weapon of every peaceful ruler."
For the next hour, the council debated every word.
Some wanted strength.
Others wanted caution.
In the end, Vespera wrote the message herself.
She didn't threaten.
She didn't beg.
She simply told the truth.
To the rulers of the Kingdom of Valenor.
The Abyssal Domain does not seek conquest.
Within our borders, monsters of many races now live under shared laws. Those who come in peace will be received in peace.
If your people wish to see our land with their own eyes, we welcome an official delegation.
If you seek war, we will defend our home.
The choice is yours.
—Vespera, Queen of the Abyssal Domain
When she finished, no one spoke.
The message was neither weak nor arrogant.
It was simply honest.
"There remains one problem," Darius said.
"Who delivers it?"
The room grew thoughtful.
Sending a monster could be seen as intimidation.
Sending a human alone could make them appear a traitor.
Sylvana finally spoke.
"Then send both."
Everyone turned toward her.
"A human."
"An elf."
"And a monster."
"Let them walk together."
Lirael smiled.
"A symbol."
Vespera nodded.
"A good one."
The delegation was chosen.
Captain Rowan had agreed to carry the letter home.
Lirael would accompany him as an ambassador.
An elderly goblin scholar named Bren would represent the Abyssal Domain's civilian council.
Not a soldier.
Not a warrior.
A teacher.
Before sunrise, the gates opened.
The entire council gathered to see the delegation depart.
Vespera remained in her human form.
Rowan approached her one last time.
"I still don't know whether my king will listen."
"I know."
"But he'll read it."
Rowan accepted the sealed letter.
"You've taken a risk trusting us."
Vespera looked toward the distant mountains.
"So have you."
The captain nodded.
Then the delegation disappeared into the morning mist.
Three days later...
The royal capital of Valenor.
The throne room buzzed with whispers as Captain Rowan knelt before King Aldric.
The king's silver crown reflected the morning light.
His expression remained unreadable.
"You've returned."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"And?"
Rowan hesitated.
"They're not what we believed."
Murmurs spread through the court.
The king extended his hand.
"The letter."
A royal attendant carried the sealed document forward.
The black wax bore an unfamiliar symbol.
A serpent coiled around a crystal crown.
King Aldric broke the seal.
He read every word in silence.
No one dared interrupt.
When he finally looked up, his face betrayed nothing.
"Summon the Royal Council."
"And..."
He paused briefly.
"Invite the High Archbishop."
Several nobles exchanged uneasy glances.
The Church.
If the Church became involved...
Peace would become far more difficult.
Far away, beneath the crystal-lit halls of the Abyssal Domain, Vespera stood before the Sanctuary Core.
Its violet light pulsed steadily.
Then, without warning, the crystal flickered.
A new message appeared.
