Mark made his way into the bedroom and sat down on the bedside. He could feel his heart about to drum a hole through his chest and jump out.

His body reacted the same way any nineteen-year-old boy’s body would. Thanks to the solo session he had in the bathroom, however, he avoided the humiliation of being caught pitching a tent.

Lara followed after him but remained standing a couple of meters away. Mark couldn’t stand the pregnant silence for long so he was about to say something. That was when it happened.

In a single instant, Lara’s outfit changed. The simple tshirt and shorts combo was gone, replaced with a long-skirted black dress and a frilly white apron. Her hair gathered on either side of her head, tied with black ribbons that contrasted the color of her hair and the headdress which complemented the rest of her uniform.

The transformation left Mark stunned, his mouth agape. He knew equipped clothes and gear could be swapped out with a thought, but he never expected it to look this impressive.

"Is something the matter?"

Lara’s serene voice shook him out of his reverie. His eyes met her ruby irises, and for some reason he felt his cheeks heat up.

"No... its nothing..."

Though he looked away, it wasn’t long before he went back to gazing at the beauty standing in front of him. From her feet all the way to her head, she appeared to be the very picture of perfection. Mark wasn’t ashamed to say she surpassed the image he had in his mind.

The maid herself ignored the way he gawked and walked to the other side of the bed. While he was still facing her with his back, she climbed over the bed and pressed her dress close to her legs as she folded them and sat down.

"Master." Her soft voice reached his like a whisper carried by a gentle breeze. "You can lie down now."

Listening to the gentle rustling of clothes behind him left Mark as stiff as a wooden plank. When he received the invitation, his back straightened involuntarily and he slowly turned around.

His maid, the gorgeous girl with silver hair, was sitting at the far end of the bed with her legs under her as if to take the position of a pillow.

Mark swallowed, the gulping sound made audible by the silence in the room. Hesitation prevented him from moving but anticipation prevailed in the end.

"Then..."

He pulled himself onto the bed and turned around, carefully positioning himself. He then slowly leaned back until his head came into contact with a soft surface.

In that instant, all the negativity and stress seemed to evaporate from Mark’s body, leaving it to melt on the spot. The pain, fear, and humiliation he had experienced that day vanished without a trace, giving him the illusion that he had been fully healed.

"Haa~... this is the best..."

He never knew how stressed out he was until now. When he thought about it, it wasn’t really strange that he didn’t notice. Being exhausted was his natural state and having a few nights of good sleep wouldn’t suddenly change that.

Mark felt his smile widening as he lay down with his eyes closed. The only thing that would improve the experience would be if his maid began to gently brush his hair, but something told him that wouldn’t happen.

’Well, I can live with that...’

The blissful expression on her master’s face surprised Lara quite a bit. She was aware that his claim of dying if he couldn’t rest on her lap was said in jest, but looking at his current state gave her the impression that there was some truth to it.

Neither of them said anything for a while. The ten minutes they agreed on ended in the blink of an eye, but Lara said nothing, allowing the young man to enjoy his break a little longer.

"Thank you, Lara," Mark took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. "This is a dream come true."

The maid tilted her head slightly.

"All I did was allow you to rest your head on my lap."

Her genuine confusion drew a chuckle out of him.

"Yes, and that alone is a priceless gift." He sighed wistfully. "Did you change your clothes because of what I said outside the city?"

"... yes." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"Then this is indeed a dream made real." Mark allowed himself to indulge in the happiness. "Never in my life did I think a time would come where I get to enjoy something like this with a normal girl, let alone one of the most beautiful women to ever exist. I feel grateful to be alive."

The words came out naturally and Mark didn’t give them much thought. Lara, on the other hand, was so surprised that she froze for a couple of seconds. There was no denying that her current form was highly attractive, but being called beautiful out of nowhere still caught her off guard.

"You are the one who created this vessel." She said after some time. "If anyone deserves praise, it would be you."

Mark couldn’t help but laugh at that statement.

"It’s true that I created the character it’s based on, but I don’t think I can take all the credit for how you look."

Though he came up with the idea of a dhampir maid with silver hair and red eyes, he couldn’t have finalized the design without the help of Kobayashi, his illustrator. That said, the design itself was in a simplified anime style. Compared to it, the Lara sitting with him was far more alluring.

"The original was a character you created, correct?" Lara held a hand to her chest. "I... I would like to hear her story."

Mark opened his eyes and looked up at his maid. His expression remained blank for some time before his eyebrows rose up a little.

"Come to think of it, you don’t know much about her, huh?"

"Yes."

Mark still remembers the maid’s reaction when he told her that she wasn’t real. She seemed entirely unaware of the origin of her appearance, just like how he knew nothing about her being an entity from another universe.

"Alright," Mark nodded. "If you let me enjoy your lap pillow for a little longer, I will tell you."

Of course, he was going to tell her either way. Whether she agreed to his condition or not didn’t matter at all. Lara understood that, and though it brought her a bit of discomfort, she reluctantly agreed.

"Understood." She said with a sigh.
