Maids VS Apocalypse

"Say, you only Awakened a couple of days ago, right?" The woman spoke in a relaxed tone that contrasted with their current situation. "Did those PK bastards brainwash you into joining them already?"

The young man she held by the hair wasn’t in a state to answer, but that didn’t seem to be a concern.

"Heeeyy! Anybody there?" She gave him a few slaps on the cheek but only got groans in response. "Well, we will have enough time to talk later. Let’s get-"

The hooded woman whipped her head to the left abruptly then leaned back a moment before something flashed right beside it. With her perception slowing the scene before her eyes, she saw that the projectile was a dark gray spear.

The force behind it generated enough wind to blast her back, tearing the young man from her grasp. The spear lodged itself into the concrete, but before she could take her eyes off of it, the weapon disappeared.

The hooded woman clicked her tongue and turned in the direction of the shooter. A few dozen meters away, a silver-haired girl was dodging several stone projectiles all while directing a sharp glare at her.

Though she threw it a second ago, the spear appeared in the girl’s hands just in time for her to block the tail swung at her by the lizard-like monstrosity. When the tail struck the bottom end of the spear, the girl used the force of the strike to spin around and take a throwing position in the air.

The launched spear was like a missile, taking a curved path as it headed straight for the hooded woman. Clicking her tongue, she jumped away at the last moment and evaded it, only for the spear to disappear yet again.

"Damn you PK bastards..." The woman cursed.

Landing a few meters away, she was about to lunge at the collapsed youth again, but the spear came flying once more forcing her to pull farther back.

"C’mon, Draco! Do your job properly!"

The giant lizard stopped and turned its head in the woman’s direction. It growled for a moment then released a guttural cry and struck the road with its tail.

The rocks that bounced were too small compared to the projectiles it used before, but it was for that exact reason that their speed was greatly increased, turning them into lethal bullets that were nearly impossible to dodge.

The silver-haired girl was forced to increase the output of her Force Field to block the stone bullets. The massive lizard didn’t let the chance go and leaped at her, intending to use its size to deal the finishing blow.

"That one is skilled, but..." Said the hooded woman. "Strange... she doesn’t strike me as a seasoned PK..."

She continued to watch the girl struggle against the massive lizard until several faint clangs reached her ears. Turning around, she saw the young man she had knocked the air out of slowly rise to his feet.

On the ground beside him were two small test tubes, each containing droplets of differently colored liquids. Whatever was inside them must’ve been swallowed by him while she was distracted, and thanks to that he regained enough vitality to stand up.

The woman sized him up with cold indifference only for the air around her to pulsate with excitement the next second.

"Was that a health potion!? Amazing!"

She moved her right leg to take a step, but her figure blurred before it touched the ground and she appeared right in front of the young man.

"Are you one of those who got the powers from their favorite game?" Her hand whipped out like the head of a viper and grabbed his neck. "Which one was it? Can you produce any interesting items? What about weapons?"

She wasn’t exactly strangling him, but having one’s neck grabbed like that was certainly painful.

"Heeeey! I’m talking to you!" She slapped him lightly once more. "Are you fiddling with your System? Trying to find a way out of this? Heeeeey!"

As she continued to slap him, the young man appeared to get fed up with it and slowly raised his arm. The hooded woman stopped and watched him with great interest, but when he grabbed the arm she was holding him with, her brows came together in a frown.

She didn’t even react to the glow that enveloped his hand as he raised the output of the Force Field around it to the maximum. Realizing that was all he was going to do, her disappointment came out in a sigh as she shook her head.

"Didn’t the PK bastards teach you anything else?" She asked. "Using your Force Field like this is pointless unless you time it right. If you don’t, it’ll just get blocked." Her eyes went down to the hand holding her wrist. "See?"

Her wrist was emitting a glow of the same intensity, making his efforts pointless. The young man didn’t give in and kept trying to break through her defenses, which only caused disappointment to grow.

In the corner of her eye, she noticed the silver-haired girl preparing to launch the gray spear once again, having distanced herself from the lizard chasing her. Not wanting to deal with that projectile again, she turned around and held the young man up then smiled under her mask when the girl halted her attack.

"Your lover?" She asked. "Nah, no way! She’s way out of your league!"

Her mocking laughter continued for a while before ending in a pleased sigh, having found something amusing in a task she was starting to lose interest in.

She was still holding the young man by the neck, moving him to block the path between her and the silver-haired girl. A faint groan reached her ears each time she did so, but the sounds were starting to get a little unsettling.

"Ha... Harder..."

The first word she heard him say caused her to freeze. For a moment she thought she must’ve heard him wrong, but then his labored voice came again.

"Ha...rder... choke me... harder..." She felt the blood drain from her face with each word. "I’m... I’m going to..." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"You frea-"

Though it crept her to no end, instead of letting go she unintentionally moved her gaze down. The young man’s free hand came into sight and it was placed in front of him as if he was holding something. By the time she realized what it was, her eyes were already wide open.

"Got you, bitch!"

There was a loud explosion and the entire area was swallowed by blinding light.
