- Chapter 1: Mark White.
The massive Lizard, named Draco, kept attacking relentlessly, leaving Lara with no openings to retaliate or retreat. With her master in danger, the contract they signed began to have its effects. It demanded that she goes to his side right away, but the Fallen refused to let her out of its sights.
"Tsk..."
Left with no other choice, Lara focused her mind and was about to summon her Halo. At that moment, light flashed a small distance away, painting the world white and stunning everyone in the vicinity.
"Master..."
~[ ]~
"You... little..."
The hooded woman staggered back. She held both hands to her eyes and rubbed furiously, but no matter what she did her sight refused to return. The ringing in her ears made it impossible to hear much of anything as well.
Mark was in a much better shape comparatively. He purposefully kept facing up while being held by the neck, and at the very last moment, he increased the output of his Force Field around both his head and the hand holding the stun grenade.
His sneak attack had freed him from the woman’s grip, though he ended up losing balance and falling to the ground. Opening his eyes, he squinted a little and forced himself to stand.
He didn’t need to know the exact numbers to understand that his opponent was far more powerful than him, and with that power a fast recovery is to be expected.
Acting quickly, Mark looked around himself then reached for the nearest piece of rubble he could find. He grabbed it with both hands and raised it above his head, and despite the terror numbing his limbs he stepped toward the hooded woman.
Specs of light manifested above her head informing him that she was about to reform her Halo, but Mark wasn’t about to let that happen.
’DIE BITCH!!!’
As much as he wanted to scream that out loud, he didn’t know if her hearing had recovered so he tried to be as quiet as possible. He barely made a sound as he enveloped the brick in his Force Field and swung it down. By the time the woman noticed his presence it was too late to block or dodge.
The brick slammed into her head with such force that it slipped from Mark’s grasp despite him holding onto it with everything he had. It wasn’t clear if the woman had cranked up her Force Field at the last moment but he wasn’t about to wait around and see if his attack had worked or not.
As soon as the blow landed he took off running, the adrenaline coursing through his veins helping him greatly.
A huge grin split his face in half while he ran with everything he had, going past the nearest building until he reached a side alley where he hid.
Peeking from the corner, he saw that the hooded woman was slowly pushing herself up. The time he bought was running out so he held out a hand.
The next second, a test tube filled with a murky green liquid materialized out of thin air and fell into it.
Peeking from the corner once more, he removed the thin cap and brought the test tube to his mouth, hesitated for a second, forced his eyes shut then downed the contents in one go.
The sour taste was akin to squeezing a lemon into his mouth, but drinking the entire thing was a matter of survival.
Once he recovered from the taste, Mark took out another test tube -this one containing a murky blue substance- and downed its contents before their nasty stench and taste made him empty the contents of his stomach.
Holding a hand to his mouth to keep it shut, he opened his player menu and checked his stats.

HP: 89/100
MP: 78/100

The pain was mostly gone, but it left behind a trauma that caused his entire body to tremble. Staring at the glass tube in his hand, Mark trembled with excitement, unable to believe that his hastily developed plan had actually worked.

Like most RPGs, Maids VS Apocalypse had an assortment of healing items, starting from the most basic Health Potion to the Full Heals. The same went for MP recovery potions.
The System had suggested that he use a Full Heal Potion to bring himself back from death’s door, but buying one would’ve remained impossible even if he converted 100% of his MP into Gold.
As he wrung his brain trying to come up with a solution, Mark realized that he didn’t necessarily have to buy the most expensive health item.
Opening the Store window once more, he went to the medicine section and selected the first item on the list. It was the most basic health potion that could restore only 50 HP, but that was in the game. The description given to it by the System was:
[Item: Basic Health Potion.
Type: Medicine.
Grade: E
Description:
A potion that greatly enhances natural health recovery for one minute. The effect decreases with each consecutive use.
+ 1 = 250G
> Buy

]
Mark had been expecting some kind of change since the System displayed HP as a percentage instead of a number, but the description didn’t sound very encouraging.
The worst part was that he instantly understood the logic behind it; the only way a single medicine could heal different types of injuries was by enhancing the natural recovery of the patient, and since it differed from one person to another, it was impossible to determine the exact effect of the potion.
The second part of the description bothered him as well, but he didn’t have the strength to care.
With only 07/100 HP left, Mark didn’t have the leeway to worry about the item’s effect. He converted most of his MP to gold, which brought him a step away from passing out.
The first thing he did was buy an HP potion and downed it in one go. The disgusting taste helped stave away the dizziness he felt and the effects were quick to show as the pain that made breathing difficult faded rapidly.
Immediately after, he bought a Basic MP Potion.
[Item: Basic MP Potion.

A potion that greatly enhances the natural recovery of Mind Power for one minute. The effect decreases with each consecutive use.

Immediately upon selecting the "Buy" option, a new menu will appear

By selecting "Use", the item immediately materializes in his palm. Mark drank it as well, and after only a few seconds he was finally able to stand. Nevertheless, his situation hadn’t changed that much. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Was that a health potion!? Amazing!" The woman said before teleporting in front of him. Before he could react, Mark felt her hand around his neck. "Are you one of those who got the powers from their favorite game? Which one was it? Can you produce any interesting items? What about weapons?"
Fear had caused him to keep his sight on the HP and MP counters and to his relief they were still steadily going up, although much slower than before.
"Heeeey! I’m talking to you! Are you fiddling with your System? Trying to find a way out of this? Heeeeey!"
Being in the hooded woman’s hands was as humiliating as it was terrifying. All it would take is a light squeeze and his neck would snap, meaning she was paying special attention to keeping him alive.
That infuriated Mark to no end. He was far too weak to do anything about her, and he doubted anything he had on him would help his situation. The embers inside him still burned, however, and with each passing second the flames of revenge grew stronger.
